My hope: all new characters outside of Ryu, Ken and Chun Li. Get dangerous with the lineup.

They did that with SF3, and everybody hated it and we didn't get a new SF for like 10 years.

Similar thing happened with SC5. Tons of people bitched about their mains not being in.

Same thing happening with Xrd and its roster. Tons of people bitching about their mains not being in.

I'd like a mix of 70/30 new to old. I think it's pretty obvious that this will be to SF3 what SF4 was to SF2, so bring back most of the SF3 cast, and lots of new characters with them.

My hope : your hope is wrong.

I don't think anything could be worse then what you posted.

Instead, how about giving old characters some new moves in addition to their classic ones? They will retain the iconic characters that people know and love, but play a little differently.

Just put all of them in. Coast on the balance and rigging from Ultra and just Street Fighter Armageddon that shit.

Fixed that for you with the correct blond fighter (sorry, couldn't resist). I'd say let Capcom start with a representative of all three major Street Fighter games as a base, like Tatsunoko did, and then build upon that with new characters (as you said) or at the very least more obscure ones or returning ones with a new design.

(Though personally having Ken as well wouldn't bother me. Nor Sean for that matter.)

Worse in business sense, or in game design / innovation sense? Not the latter, surely?

While I like your suggestion for using iconic characters with new moves, for me this would be the absolute minimum Capcom would need to do to make SFV feel fresh and distinct from SFIV. Though it might be safer in business terms, I still feel that they shouldn't exclusively stick to the familiar roster. Give everyone, including new players, a clean start outside of a few returning favorites instead I'd say. Dare to be brave and different!

(But who am I kidding in this world filled with clone cities overflowing with chains like Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger King, Costa etc.? People apparently do everything to stick with what is familiar to them...)

My kingdom for a Skullomania.

I wouldn't be opposed to this! He's been gone for so long that using him at this point feels like having a new character. Money concerns aside, I do wonder if Capcom would still be able to get the rights from Arika though. Have they ever commented on this?

This is the company that was too cheap to rerecord/relicense voice performances for one of their most beloved games so they can rerelease them, I doubt they'd bother with regaining these characters.

I hope they go for something new and unique as there's no way they can outdo several years of roster building with SF4. It would be far more interesting to see them innovate rather than slowly add back in the characters we could already play in Ultra.

That said, they better bring back Adon or I'm going to flip my shit.

Any excuse to post this man. Dammit Capcom, just do it.

My main is Dhalsim so I'd like him to return, of course. But if he doesn't, that would be the incitive to start with someone new, so it wouldn't be that bad.
But I think they're gonna play it safe and go with a lot of the original 12 at lauch, and of course popular ones like Cammy, Fei, Gouki and such. And add most of the missing ones via DLC.
Anyway what I'm really looking forward to are the newcomers.

They won't go crazy and add mostly new characters. Capcom considered what they did with SFIII a huge mistake that almost killed the franchise for them. They'll play it safe.

His son Datta! Along with Mel Masters I'd love to see some of the children take over their parents styles.

No way Fei makes it if Karin is in, and she should be going by the polls as well as not even being in IV.

Might as well throw abel in since like Alex he's the "main character" of his series. Not that it means much lol.

And Soul Calibur 5 is a recent example of a fan backlash for a series trying to move the setting forward a certain amount of years.

Has someone set up a poll/survey yet? We should set one up where you can choose 19 characters from the entire street fighter franchise (SF4 had 19 characters, 6 new ones, but we can't obviously choose from that) and see which characters are the most popular

Capcom did that themselves last march. They've probably already locked down their character choices anyway.

Karin's pretty much a lock imo, they'll def have a slot for an existing character that wasn't in IV for V.

I want r.mika back but its not going to happen.

Id be down with sodam.

Id like to see a female shoto. Not sakura style but an honest to god scrubby ken clone. Having ryu & ken mixed up with akuma/oni/evil kind of breaks up the monotony of random fights. A female version would be nice for a change. How about Danielle?

Itd be great if haggar finally showed up. In fact any gief alternatives.

I dont know how popular poison is but i love the design in usf4 so i wouldnt mind seeing her back. The whole mad gear gang actually. They're great.

As far as the super 16... If the were going to dare to leave any out.... I could live without thawk, dj, maybe swap guile for charlie. Wouldnt miss claw, myself.

We will see.

After SFIV I don't really trust capcom with an entire new roster. They used to be good. SF Alpha. SF 3. Those were some awesome characters. Every one of them. SFIV really didn't wow me with any of the new characters. Abel is a poor mans Alex. C. VIper is Ok I guess. El Fuerte is lame.

Juri and RUfus are cool though. Seth is meh. Was amazing in vanilla sf4. Now lame. I'd rather have Urien.

I'm hoping for a trimmed cast with less distinctive characters removed. SFA2 had a good balance. While I like Fei, Gen, Hawk, Rolento and Vega, I wouldn't cry if they were missing for once. Give the game a chance to breathe. Just building on USF4 and adding yet another ten characters would be ridiculously bloated (see: Tekken).

Fan outrage will probably stop this, though, and quantity is easier than quality.

I think the big draw should be characters that play differently compared to most fighting game characters. So (no offense) I don't understand why anyone would want Sakura back again other than purely fanservice. Unless you want her to play differently I just don't get the desire for it.

I am roughly 75% confident that Alex will be in it.

people are still talking about this? isn't king cobra already in the game, but he just looks like rufus now? i thought that was the whole thing, from the original concept his look and name changed.
Yeah he became Rufus, but the Cobra design is great, they shouldnt throw him away. I can see him as a Sagat replacement.

I'm a Tekken fan and haven't been into Street Fighter, until V have made me very curious, so I just want to know, is Final Fight a part of the Street Fighter series or how is that connection working?

Of characters, I hope Juri, Makoto and Poison are in. Do they have a good chance?

FF and SF are somehow supposed to be part of the same continuity. First FF characters to appear in a SF game where Guy and Sodom, way back in SF Alpha/Zero in 1995 AFAIK.

As for Juri, Makoto and Poison only time can tell, but I think Makoto has a fair chance if SFV happens after SFIII as it's rumored to. Juri seems to be pretty popular as a character so maybe her too. I'd personally be happy to see Poison in V as I like her(?) but I doubt it.

As long as Cammy and Juri are in I'm good, everyone else could be new for all I care.

Not targetted to you specifically, but this is why Capcom doesn't dare to change things up anymore. Every single character has players who only play that character and would be outraged if that one doesn't make it. That's why cast resets are a thing of the past.

Me, I like enough characters that I can always find someone. If nothing else, I go back to Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li or Zangief, so I'm not particularly worried that I won't have anyone to play. In fact, having Abel, Rose, Fei, Hawk, Makoto, Hugo, Decapre, Rolento, Dhalsim and Elena in the game already means I don't even have time to dedicate to all I'd like. Capcom limiting my choices would actually help.

I was going to make a joke about most responses are probably going to be "as long as <main> is in" but I still stand by my choice! (I don't even play Juri, I just like her design lol)

I'm only a casual Street Fighter fan, but as long as Dan is in the game, I will be buying SFV. This is purely so I can repeatedly beat them as Dan and make them feel really bad at life.

As you can see, I'm a joy at parties.

Isn't Poison a popular character though?

I have no idea, as I have never been part of the SF fanbase. :)

Poison only got her first SF appearance proper with SFxT and then Ultra, and though she's popular in an internet meme way I wouldn't say beyond that.

Juri I think stands a very strong chance as they'll want a 'representative' from the SF4 series' original cast and she is by far and away the one who has caught on the most.

I'd personally be disappointed without Cammy, but as SF's defacto number 2 lady she's about as close to guaranteed as you can get, really. SF3 was an experiment & outlier, and I expect this to be much safer in general based even off the first few minutes of footage.

Weirdos only. Put in Ryu/Ken/Chun, but fill the rest of the slots with Oro, Necro, Juri, El Fuerte, Hakan, Dhalsim, R. Mika, Poison, Rose, Ingrid, Urien, and Q. Newbies should be sufficiently strange and removed from the Shoto/grappler conventions, too. The fewer real-life fighting styles on display, the better!

Abel and Juri are definitely the standouts of SFIV, I have no doubt they'll be in. I think C. Viper is probably a safe bet too.
