Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

Is there no weather in multiplayer? I looked at the events and all of the had the little rain symbol crossed out.

they are probably just waiting for the patch to release everywhere, if it hasn't already.. and just getting things ready.

probably by the end of the day or tomorrow.

The patch took more then an hour to download. No Ps4 download has ever been this slow. Somehow i'm out of luck when it comes to Driveclub.

Hope weather is dope!

Guys, do the puddles of water react to the cars when you drive through them? This is my main gripe with GTA 5's weather system. It reacts to footsteps, but not cars.

Hate to be a party pooper but the snow/lightning shots are making me angry >:(

I have never seen a thunderstorm and snow at the same time (though I believe it's probably possible).

Ahhh fuck it who cares the shots are gorgeous

Yes, you can choose light precipitation, heavy precipitation, or dynamic. Light & Heavy choices are fixed for the duration of the race. If you choose dynamic (and have time compression set to 15X or greater), your race could start out with light rain/snow, become heavy and then clear up by the end of race. Or the reverse. It's dynamic every time you race, so you never know what you will get.
That sounds great, thanks.

I've seen it before, and I'm in the UK. Granted, it's rare here.

Just fired this up...

Second Scotland P2P, 7am, x15 time progression, random cloud cover and dynamic weather.

This is the best fucking thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm not even joking either.

When everything comes together this game is the best looking thing out there across all platforms. It's not even a contest.

Several PGR diehard fans (we were on the Bizarre Creations forums way way back) on here, Shaneus, Jamesways, myself, and a few others have considered this to be the PGR successor and replacement, if that says anything. :P

Another Bizarre forumite and PGR fan here checking in. Not played Driveclub yet but from everything I've seen (especially with the weather patch) then yes, this shows every sign of being the HD current-gen spiritual successor to PGR4.

On the race select screen, you can easily see how increasing the rain effect makes the sea swell with strong waves and high tides.. wow!

I guess not all tracks support all weather types? The Canada track only seems to allow for rain, not snow.

To be fair, that's how Scotland always is.

PGR4 was one of my favourite games last gen.

This is as close as we are ever going to get without PGR actually coming back. If they add some city locations then it basically is PGR.

What is going on here?

I've noticed this in a number of shots, not only is the "reflection" offset and incorrect for the camera angle..but there seem to be random (things that aren't even there) "reflected".

This bugged me in Infamous:SS shots/gameplay too. It's not just something in those games though. I noticed completely wrong "reflections" and lighting in Unity on the PC too...stuff that wasn't even close to correct.

I was thinking more along the lines of Buckfast... ;)

Oh, that's taken as part of a healthy diet with each of the three meals of the day, breakfast, lunch, dinner. I thought you were suggesting what is taken recreationally ;)

A bottle of buckie a day, keeps the fanboys away.

Got the weather update.

Rain on roads + associated reflections - excellent.
Spray up from cars - missing? You probably wouldn't want to emulate this fully but it's totally missing.
Raindrops on camera in outside view - rubbish. Get rid of this please, it's blur blobs and they're too distracting. Game has enough visibility problems due to shakycam.

What's going on here is that you are nitpicking.

Reflections in video games will almost never be perfect because there are so many factors at play.

Something you will never, ever notice when playing. The reflections look great.

Yes, I know I am.

I don't notice them when running/driving around either, they always ruin still shots for me though.

I want some true real-time reflections up in my games. It's also evident in Horizon 2 when I play it.

It's still a valid technical thing to question.

I have that racing in torrential rain then coming out of a be greeted by the sun peeking through the clouds on one of the Canadian tracks just now is probably going to be one of those gaming moments that I'll keep hold of. Quite possibly the most beautiful things I've ever seen in a game and I was smiling from ear to ear.

There are times in heavy snow using the driver;s eye camera where my concentration drifted for a second and I literally had no idea where the hell the track was!

I have one small complaint though...
  • Time of Day - Random
  • Time Lapse - x1
  • Cloud Cover - Random
  • Precipitation - Dynamic
Those are my preferred setting for single events and from what I can tell it doesn't matter where you race and how many times you race there, every single race contains rain or snow. That's fine at the moment as I'm messing around with the weather but with the settings I'm using there should also be nice sunny days mixed in with the dynamic weather.

And by that Driveclub is a must purchase this year. It is worth it every penny. I am going to buy the season pass at the end of this month.

is the tunnel on the norway atlantic road track busted? When you go into it, it is almost completely black for a long time, before it adjusts. Is that normal - seems way too long.

Well after this update I'll never shake my head again when my friends say it's difficult to drive at night during rain, my god this engine is insane o.o I'm not good with photo-mode workings but here's a shot I made:

I think it's just where the puddle patch ends. Large puddles still appear fine in the distance.

If I'm honest, I think the level of nitpicking applied to stills is actually something which is detrimental to overall gaming visuals and experience. Lots of processing time and of course productions costs are lavished on items which will otherwise be criticised on forums (and by reviewers) based entirely on stills, while a lot of these details are things which you won't even look at during 90% of playtime.

At it's core, it comes down to the eyecandy vs performance balance, and currently devs are mostly targeting the former because too many people are nitpicking over texture detail and too few are asking how well it performs.

Maybe the advent of 60fps videos on Youtube/etc will start to change this, but I doubt it.

I think it's supposed to represent eye adjustment going from very bright to very dark. There's another where you come out and it's blinding - drive by minimap if you want to avoid slamming into the barrier.

It's normal for a real life camera. The lighting condition change dramatically between outside and a tunnel, so when you get in, the camera has to take some time to calculate and correct the exposure. The time needed to do so varies from camera to camera I think.
