Fighting Games Weekly | Dec 8-14 | Sony pleads the FiF

Speaking of online, a lot of people are saying XRD is trash online thus far. Floe was playing with 10+ frames of lag when he was streaming.

Netcode isn't magic. America is the land of shit internet, netcode isn't going to go into everyone's house and make them stop playing on their crappy PS3 wifi.

ASW isn't shy about patching their netcode. They do this with every game so it should get better with a patch

Damn Sanford used to be slim as hell, does everyone go through a transformation as they go pro? I know they got a lot older but man...
I used to run ten miles every other day and lift weights, but then I started playing Magic the Gathering. Now the only excersise I get is rolling D20s and chewing pizza.

ultradavid trying to give snake eyez the nuclear launch codes

shiiiiiiiiit

i think this is at least partially in response to to nemo recently saying this about him and james chen.

Nemo : US players seem Zangief isn't strong charactor. I don't understand it at all. Recently, Snake eyes won many tournament, because Zangief is one of best strong caharactor in USF4. Ultra David and James Chan said Zangief is not strong caharactor. I don't agree with them. They can't understand USF4. Shallow thinking.

from a kinda cool jp fgc blog with translated stuff. http://fgjp.blog.jp/archives/17895247.html

When I played Floe, who lives in the same city as I...the match was going through 2-5 frames of delay.

In all honestly, it should be less than 1 frame at all times from that distance even without rollback code.

I'm waiting until the US version comes out for some player variety, but for now, it's a tad better than Injustice netcode.

If SF5 has crap netcode, that's all on Sony. We all know that Capcom will just borrow SF4 netcode unless specified otherwise.

Huh, I get that same connection with local people, but I thought that was just a case of lol Mexican internet

Don't think so. The netcode just isn't very good. Folks in japan had 5-9 frame delay, but I had the same delay with those on East coast USA. It's kinda rough. Only could find one person where it felt really good around 2frames of lag.

That kind of sounds nasty. =/

I wonder if it's an issue with PS3 netplay and less so with PS4. Still, I would expect better from them. In City P4U2 is really good when somenoe's net isn't being shitty.

GGPO netcode gives you the option to crank the latency up so you can enjoy delay if you prefer that over seeing the rollback. Those number in the settings is # of delay. You have 0 (no delay, visual rollback) or 10 (10f of input delay, minimum rollback).

It doesn't FIX shitty connections, just makes the input delay static as opposed to variable (because it blows when you have to adjust to a new amounts of delay instead of just setting it to like 2f of delay and dealing with it vs everyone you play)

Pretty hyped for Capcom Cup, lining up some small change bets already. My record in betting for SF4 is pretty low compared to Marvel but I will still persevere!

Maybe? I only managed to find one or two people online with a 4 bar connection to me in P4AU. At least to me finding a stable connection in Xrd isn't anymore rare, unfortunately.

It doesn't magically fix bad connections, but it shouldn't make good ones have bad delay.

Playing wired connection with a friend down the block shouldn't give me 3 frames of lag.

SG is more similar to MvC2 than MvC3 is to MvC2.

I think someone on Skullheart tried to tell Mike it's not and his post was massive with comparing the 3.

Depends. It has to travel to somewhere else first, not from your home to his.

Well Capcom had something with SFxT netcode. It was rollback and all but the last gen console's couldn't really handle it since it does take a hefty amount of memory

It seems like everyone's having different experiences with the online.

I live in Canada and playing with people in the US usually gets me around 2-3f delay. The largest amount I've seen is 4-7 and that's with Q who lives pretty far from me IIRC.

They're supposed to be rolling out a network patch at some point so maybe that will iron things out for the people experiencing issues.

It could be a routing issue... but I remember the bad old days when I would play Melty Blood on PC cross-country at a 4-5 frame delay, and that was as straightforward of a delay-based implementation as you can get . If they're seeing 3-4 frames of delay in the same city, either the Internet connection is straight ass at some point (either locally or some goofy routing issue) or the game is fucking up. If people are normally seeing 9 frames of delay within Japan... that's bad.

I could give you a wishlist for features in SF5:

Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.
Don't use delay-based netcode.

Yes, it's that important. It's going to be a lot of time, money and effort but if they can't produce S-tier netcode for the game, the entire endeavor is irrelevant.

I just want it to be as good as SF4 at least. I know that's sad, but didn't SFxT use rollback netcode? The netcode in that game was worse than SF4.

Of course I want netcode as good as Skullgirls but if they do rollback, they need to do it right.

Blazblue and Persona have had early, netcode improving patches in the past. I can't recall if Arcsys has said anything about patching Xrd yet, but it wouldn't surprise me.

We 2014 now and niggas still can't get netcode down...

Ain't nothing ever gonna change.

SF5 gon have buttcheek connection as well.

It could be. I feel like it's harder to get the NAT settings right on a PS3 compared to a 360 for me, forgot what it's at now.

We both have the same ISP and pretty much the same speeds.

Ping could be better. Oh well, I just play offline with him frequently anyways.

it sucks being out of college and actually having to deal with shit netcode

no more crack sessions at the tip of a hat

FWIW, Xrd online is decent in Japan (and this comes from somebody who thinks marvel netcode here is still ass). Playing against somebody in my city, I was getting 2-4f of lag, but it felt fairly smooth*

*I suck at GG so take my analysis with a grain of salt

I wish my net was even half that decent. ;_;
