What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

Bad Rats.

Yeah, I said it. Come and get me.
I've never played Bad Rats.

The Sonic Boom 3DS demo I guess .

I didn't purchase any "bad" games this year because of my purchasing decisions but I did jokingly play for a bit my brother's copy of Ubisoft's The Crew. Frankly, the performance convinced me to not even bother with it any further.

Gonna get a lot of flak for this, but...

Bayonetta
(not Bayonetta 2, though, just the first one)
also, this speaks more to the quality of the other games I bought this year than it does to the quality of Bayonetta

The Crew wasn't very good. Sure the world is huge but the co-op was shit and they really didn't need to shove the online down our throats.
Wolfenstein The New Order

Such a garbage game jeez..

Why?

Edit: Instead of just naming a random game and calling it "garbage", how about you explain why you don't like it.

Different strokes then. I haven't played Don't Starve but in general I find that my best gaming experience are the ones where I had to work a little.

Dropped into a world with no immediate instructions, browsing menus and icons I don't really understand, trying your damnedest to build fires and survive and whatnot, only for it to be taken away by some bullshit twist of fate.

Just not fun in my opinion, especially in my finite amount of time I have for gaming.

Master Chief Collection - Released broken. Couldn't find online matches 95% of the time. Saves data deleted. Strange red writing in top corner of my screen saying failed to boot. ETC. First digital game I've ever returned.

Prob a random PS+ offering like Sportsfriends. I've actually been pretty happy with all the retail purchases this year including Watchdogs and Destiny (well until the Dark Below "expansion" anyway)

Assassins Creed Unity. After how much I enjoyed Assassins Creed Black Flag, Unity was a huge disappointment. I think it was mainly the controls that were awful.

Sonic Boom. Managed to play a few hours of it after my friends' son stopped playing it. After taking the time to drink in it's awfulness, I could see why he stopped.

A lot of people only playing the very best games around if Mordor is the worst you played, haha.

Maybe people should have to list the other games they played :p

What's the worst game you played this year?

Last of Us
What others games did you play?
Just Last of Us. It was my best and worst game of the Year
:/

I have such a love hate relationship with this game. When you are actually shooting people in that game its fantastic. However....when you are not shooting things it is god awful. Like really fucking bad. Collect toys? really now?

It would be on my top 5 fps list if the game consisted of just all out Nazi killing action.

No new release I played this year was outright bad, though Reaper of Souls lost my interest as Diablo always does, and it's in the nature of loot-grind games to kick you out the door and leave you with final impressions that are poorer than the actual experience. The Reign of Giants expansion for Don't Starve was also a disappointment that I thought did more harm than good to one of my favourite games of 2013, as it rebalanced the game to keep you on your toes in perpetual early-game action-action-action, which took away from the emergent base-building and economy management that made the first game magical if you progressed far enough. Difficulty increases are only desirable insofar as they push you to broaden your range of strategies and actions rather than narrow them, and Reign of Giants unfortunately did the latter.

Gonna get a lot of flak for this, but...

Bayonetta
(not Bayonetta 2, though, just the first one)

As someone who adored Bayonetta 2, I'm inclined to agree. The first Bayonetta nailed a lot of fundamentals but had a pattern of sloppiness I noticed well before I played 2 and saw how things might be done differently, and while I liked it enough to play it a time and a half, it is by a clear margin the weakest Kamiya game I've played. I respect the game a lot for how many systems it figured out, just as a landmark in design, but there was virtually nothing in it that wasn't done better in one or both of The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.

And not to one-up you in the sweepstakes for contrarianism, but if we aren't restricting this to new releases, the worst game I played this year was unquestionably Cave Story.

Destiny for me. Went from enjoying to fucking hating in record time. Thanks to Destiny, I'll never buy a game from PSN (except small indie games) or a season pass.

I don't think it's the worst game I played, but yeah I certainly found it quite the waste of time. I shouldn't have to work to eke enjoyment out of a game.

But survival games are all about busywork; preparing yourself so you can manage to survive. It feels like hard work, but then the payoff is rewarding too.

I can't think of a single bad game I've bought this year, but then I've really curbed buying new games. I did find Watch Dogs especially disappointing, but I've only played it around a friend's.

I hate myself for saying this, because there's a lot of things I like about the game, mostly audio/visual/fanservice-related, but I found Hyrule Warriors to be paper-thin, dull, and repetitive beyond belief, to the extent that I almost wish I hadn't bought it, which is rare for me.

Rogue Legacy on Vita. It's very overrated IMO and doesn't come close to spelunky. The upgrade system felt pretty weird to have in a roguelike and made the game more about collecting money instead of concentrating on getting good at the game and not dying.

Shadow of Mordor is a basic-ass, Ubisoft-inspired open world game with a terrible story, terrible mission design, flat world with nothing interesting to see in it (Oh, look, another Orc stronghold!), ripped-off Batman combat that becomes trivial with a few important and easy to get upgrades, and one of the worst endings in modern gaming.

The Nemesis system was neat, until your character becomes so powerful that you just don't die anymore. Then you wonder what the hell you're doing with your life.

Little Inferno was pretty dumb. Like... I get it. I get the whole point behind it and what it was trying to say.

But... it wasn't really fun at all. And the fact that I finished it despite that is pretty ironic because of what the whole idea behind the game is.

Thief - terrible game, couldn't walk 5 feet without "Loading..."
