What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

I know there are far shittier games that came out in 2014 than what I'm about to list but I'm extremely picky about what I actually buy. I bought a new 780ti and got Watch_Dogs for free as a result. While I was impressed with the game's graphical fidelity, it feel inexcusably short on its narrative. The SP of the game (the only part I played) felt like it had so many opportunities to shine and fell short every single time.

The 2nd on my list is Dark Souls 2 (no DLC). Compared to the first this game felt like a factory built sequel. A majority of the zones were bland and a majority of the bosses felt gimmicky. While there were a few gems, when I completed the game I had no real drive to do NG+ like I did with the original.

Games like MCC/Unity/etc deserve to be on this list but as I've refused to buy them I can't accurately judge them.

Free? War Thunder PS4 (I had so many crashes, and the flying controls were horrible)

Paid? ... Driveclub pre working online/weather. (It's much better now)

It was Watch Dogs. Fucking hated the protagonist and his shitty life choices which directly precipitated all the horrible events of the game I saw up to the middle of act 2 when I abandoned it.

Every other person in future Chicago is a cancer patient too seemingly.

I regret buying that game massively.

I haven't played too many 2014 releases, but Titan Attacks was pretty lackluster to me. I really enjoyed the Space Invaders Extreme games in the past, which IMO elevated the SI formula, but TA just didn't do much for me, and after about 50 stages, I deleted it from my PS3.

Super Time Force for me. Was looking forward to it but when I actually sat down to play, I didn't like how the controls felt clunky and the mechanic gave me a headache with all the flashing and rewinding with a constantly ticking clock.

But surprised by so many people hating on Mordor. I liked that game a lot ... nowhere near GOTY for me but after a long day it was fun to spend an hour mindlessly stabbing things between the eyes and decapitating some folks.

Once I unlocked the shadow-step-thing-to-mount-Graugs ability it took off for me.

Map was small, it was a bit same-y graphically, and there were definitely glitches. But I still liked it more than a bunch of bad games this year.

I'd nominate Destiny, Watch Dogs, AC: Unity, Stick it to the Man, Mercenary Kings, Sim City and the Sims 4 way before I would Mordor. That's just me.

If the release dates of GTA V PS4/XB1 and Watch_Dogs were switched, I would have loved to see how that would have gone.

Watch_Dogs is just amatuer hour in every way.

Mercenary Kings on PS4. I was excited for a Contra or Metal Slug ripoff but the game is just terrible. Looks bad, controls bad. Luckily, I didn't spend money for it. Not diredtky, anyway since it was free through PS+

Conception 2. Bad dungeons, bad characters, bad story. I only managed to get through it by watching House of Cards during dungeons, and skipping cutscenes.

Destiny. All other games I had some expectation that they would be somewhere between mediocre to bad. I thought Destiny was going to be one of those "here is the new Halo" games... nope... not even close. The flat out lying of the hype train also hurt.

Hmm probably some indie game from PS+. Every game I have purchased has been great. I honestly don't know the last time I bought a newly released, full priced game that was bad. I can usually tell from trailers, footage, demos and previews if I will like a game or not.

Infamous second son. I tried multiple times but had to give up. It's sad to see how this great new IP (first game was one of my favourite PS3 games) has changed so much, and not for the better. They scrapped all the good bits from the first game (story, characters, traversal, comic book style,...) and replaced it with something generic, uninteresting and boring.

I didn't play any games that I would consider bad this year, pretty much enjoyed everything I picked up. However.....

Most Overhyped-Shadow of Mordor. It's an Arkham game set in LoTR. It's solid, but way too easy, dull missions, story gets kind of hard to follow by the end, and both the maps are pretty bland. The nemesis system is cool
especially when you can build your own army
, but otherwise it's charms wore of quickly.

Most Dissapointing-MCC. It was poised to be my Game of Forever, but then we all know what happened. Still fantastic when it works, and I really hope they can iron everything out soon, but Microsoft dun goofed with this one.

Watch_Dogs is just amatuer hour in every way.
I'll give it that it has much better movement, shooting and cover than GTA. I'd much rather have a running gun battle in Watch_Dogs, but that's it.

Stick it to the man.

I just didn't get on with at all. Humour fell flat, gameplay felt boring, objectives were dull, controls felt terrible. It was just horrible. A complete and utter waste of two hours.
I couldn't play this game with a headset since the voices in people's heads ONLY play through the dual shock speakers, so I abandoned playing it pretty quick.

As someone who just recently played The Evil Within on PC with no borders and at a decent framerate, I loved the game. Not as good as I had hoped but still an extremely solid well made game. If it's the worst game you played you must not have played much this year.

Arena: Cyber Evolution

had an absolute blast playing the alpha version at Pax East. The finish product...uggh no bueno.

Destiny is probably the most disappointing. After 2 hours into the game you realize that it's just empty and boring. The beta of game made me buy it, but the game really isn't much more than the beta; just different areas to run around and do nothing.

Ryse. It looks good... and that's all that is good (or even decent) about that game. Utter trash. If you consider the PC port to be a 2014 game, that is.

Yea the 3rd person on-foot controls in Watch_Dogs absolutely destroy GTA's, where it feels like the pavement is made out of glue. That's the only thing WD does better though.

I rarely play cheap or indie games, so no matter how much I try to remember, nothing really trumps Destiny. It was just a bad bad game, although I stayed away from games which could've been much worse.

Destiny.

And that doesn't mean it is horrendously bad (it is for me on a personal level) but I think I've had a pretty decent year in games I have played. I think Destiny was the only one that I didn't enjoy that much

This year were pretty good overall. Not that many bad/horrible games. Thief might be the least fun I had with game but still it's not a bad game. Just bland one. Same goes for Watch_Dogs.

The main criticisms I see are people who feel strongly about the cinematic presentation (black bars), technical issues on consoles (sub-30fps), some lack of polish, a terrible story, and that the game is too difficult.

The only ones I agree with are lack of polish and terrible story.

I'm still reeling over the shock somebody put MK8 earlier in the thread.

Anyway, another vote for Yoshi's New Island from me. Absolute abysmal level design. I don't know what Nintendo were thinking. I just hope Wooly World is a lot better which Im sure it will be.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z

The graphics were nice, the humor gave me a chuckle or two, but that's about it. Thankfully it's just a spin-off because I would rather have more of Razor's Edge than this.

Sonic Boom 3DS demo is the worst game I've played.

The worst game that I spent money on was probably Battle Princess of Arcadias.

Managed to avoid playing any truly bad games this year. My gaming time is very limited and it forces me to be extremely picky and to stay off any hype trains.

Watch_Dogs
Master Chief Collection
Dark Souls II
Destiny

MCC and Dark Souls II stung the worst for me

Dark Souls i put in 107 hours on the PC version about 80 on the PS3 and about 30 on 360
I was so hyped for DSII was thinking "this will be my GOTY easily" NOPE.

Nothing at all clicked with me, the levels were disjointed, the "characters" were unmemorable and the boss fights were just clones of Dark Souls

I can remember every boss fight of Dark Souls and pretty much the boss music, Dark Souls 2 i remember a giant tree, a giant rat, a trash version of Ornstein and a bunch of Gargoyles from DS and that's about it

Just bleehhh

MCC i was so looking forward to playing one of my favourite FPS online bought the Xbone, 2 controllers, 2 play and charge kits and got my best mate round to play...only we didn't play we just sat there...watching the "searching for players" text and that was it
