Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

Kinda been trying to find a character that would combine the good points of the above. Fun to play, relatively fast maneuverability, good recovery, and powerful KO moves. Maybe Diddy is the closest to that? Anyone have any suggestion which character I should also try out? How's Greninja?

All the characters you mention are really fun and good imo (then again I say that about most of the characters ;b). I recommend you to try out Zero Suit Samus: she has that fun to play feeling, is pretty fast and has good maneuverability and recovery as well as alright KO moves. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Greninja; I don't think he got that powerful KO moves that you're looking for. He's fast though, and does have good maneuverability and recovery. All of his smash attacks are kind of meh imo, although his air down a is at least amazing against master and crazy hand.

My % went from an 85 to an 82 because I faced two players recently that I just could not beat more than 50% of the time. One of them was a Dedede player, which really hurt my ego because I thought I had that matchup figured out. This guy was something else, though. His spacing was absolute perfection at every moment. Just a hair out of my reach as another Gordo whacks me in the face.

Also, I think Dedede is the hardest character in the game to kill, right next to Lucario, Diddy, and ZSS.

I haven't seen a very wide variety of characters in For Glory yet, but the character I have the most trouble against right now is Pit/Dark Pit. Certain characters like Mega Man I have trouble with depending on the player, but it feels like every time someone uses one of the Pit bros I get destroyed. Every time I try to attack I'm interrupted by an arrow or one of his aerials

I feel like you should only throw one Pikmin at a time with him. Otherwise you risk not having access to your dsmash when you need it. Never throw all three Pikmin unless you're okay with losing half of your attacks, including your throw.

No one knows, but I have an 82% win rate, and I get matched up against some pretty awful players.

With that win rate, most people probably seem pretty awful ;)

I ask because I reached about 60% last week, then started matching against much tougher opponents in FG. After losing a bunch, I'm down to 55% and am facing easier opponents. I play roughly at the same times during the week, so I wasn't sure if it was coincidence or actual matchmaking.

Now that I have a LAN adapter, I decided to run a speed test on the cable via my computer. (Not sure if the connection will be different on the Wii U, but...)

Dunno if this is good/bad/accurate, but ta-da!

In the same interview he also stated, that they have a team, which analyse the For Glory matches. Why have people monitory the game, if you don't wanna use the data for something.

Yeah, in my mind, "no plans at this time" = "likely be doing something in the future."

Glad to hear you got wired! LAN adapters are only $10, so it should be easy for everyone to get it done.

Customs if both parties agree seems like it will lead to "if you would have allowed customs, this wouldn't have happened", and situations where you play person A, they say "Woah, that custom is so good", and then everyone else says no to customs because they are afraid of dealing with whatever tactics you have. It's just so inconsistent. I think customs should either be legal, or not, and right now most people have said they would prefer to not have them included.

Also, I think Dedede is the hardest character in the game to kill, right next to Lucario, Diddy, and ZSS.

Thanks! :D

You make a valid point regarding customs. I personally support them, but it makes sense to leave that decision to all the participants involved.

And I agree about Dedede. He never dies!

My Winrate is 79%. Everytime I get higher, someone better comes in and starts winning. I'm too prideful to leave unless I have to or until I win multiple times in a row, so I constantly lose until I stop playing smash, they leave, or I learn how to beat them.

Dair will hit before Ness recovers. I know this because whenever I face Shamrock, there's a 100% chance I will spam dair and down B to try and smack him through PK Thunder. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I don't have a firm grasp on it.

Two weeks is a lot of time, though. That means the ranbat would take 4 months to finish, and we'd only have 3 seasons a year. I want a little more change-up than that. There won't be any playoffs, since it's Round Robin format.

Thank you for sharing the idea!

It really is pretty random.

I may have not been totally clear. Say you have 8 players in a bracket, so that's a game per week for 7 weeks. The schedule would look something like this with you being player 1:

Season goes from 12/22/14 to 2/9/15

Week 1 (12/22-12/28)
P1 vs P3
Play by Jan 4th

Week 2 (12/29-12/4)
P1 vs P6
Play by Jan 11th

.
.
.

Week 7 (2/2/15-2/9/15)
P1 vs P2
Play by Feb 9th

Basically, every week has an extra buffer week to play their match except for the last match of the season. However, the schedule as it's laid out recommends to play within a week and still ends in the 7 weeks. You are supposed to play your match each week, but there is an extra week before it counts as a default in case scheduling conflicts occur. Bottom line, the ranbat ends in 7 weeks. Hope this makes more sense.

Today in my ongoing For Glory travails: I finally took the plunge and bought a LAN adapter! After playing around a little last night, I realized that I was suffering some insane input lag. I never had any major issues on the 3DS version, but I feel like I'm at a continuous disadvantage when playing on the Wii U. Hopefully this will remedy my dilemma, though!

Where did you get your lan adapter?

This guy didn't go buy the name of Chazo did he?
I don't recall, but whenever he was off stage and I tried to gimp him, he always perfectly space himself to whap me away. Also, his neutral game consisted of him always jumping and floating around in the air. If I didn't approach, he would usually throw a Gordo out before landing, but would play the waiting game. If I approached, he usually used nair (I think) and tried to pressure me. Very aerial-based, which isn't common among the Dedede's I've played.

Most of my matches are pretty close. I think I tend to win more simply because I played a good 1000 matches with Bowser on the 3DS version, so I have more experience. Others will catch up to me, I'm sure.

I've only ever played one good Pit, and it took a lot of patience to win. So many grabs...

Oh, I understand now! This is a great idea. I will think on this more, but I like where you're going with this.

Yeah, she fucking rules. Her and Kirby are really satisfying in this game.

Yeah, Kirby too but he's much more of an all-round good character. Good special attacks, good smash attacks all around etc. Jigglypuff on the other hand is way weaker and her smashes on ground kind of suck compared to other characters, meaning you have to take the battle to the air. That down special attack is her key ingredient, it's so satisfying to roll over to the opponent who's at ~60% and knocking him or her out with one Rest ;b Also satisfying to manage to juggle an enemy out of the screen with aerials, but I need more training in that regard.

I'm so bad at this game. This is my first time really trying to learn Smash and I find myself getting caught with seemingly simple stuff like someone just dashing in and attacking. I try to attack them before and I get hit (I've tried smashes and tilts). I try blocking and that works well but I don't know quick enough follow ups to punish (been playing as Link, Diddy, Sonic and Little Mac). I'm decent enough at 2D fighters to know what I'm doing wrong in those games but still have a ways to go before I figure this game out, I think.

Sounds like my brother Chazo down to the T. Look him up and add him to your friends list. He has gone up against M2K and such in tournaments. He usually beats me 70/30, until he told me what Dedede's problems are. Message him "your brother sent me for a good match." You will learn a lot in trying to beat his annoying butt.

Does he have any matches uploaded online. Dedede is one of my mains.

Tell him to get a GAF account so he can join in the fun. :-)

I will add him up.

Alright, LuigiGAF. Help me out here. Long ass time Luigi player. I have his fundamentals down like nobody's business. Problem is, in previous games I've relied on Smash attacks and bair for kill moves. Unfortunately, it's harder to kill with those in Smash 4 for obvious reasons (buffed shield, less lag on dodges and shields, larger blastzones, etc.). I find myself connecting frequently enough to kill in previous games, but not being able to get out the final blow. I typically get my opponent to a whopping 140%-150% before finishing them off. By that time, they've already took my stock and pushed my percentage up pretty good so I'm at a disadvantage.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out some better strategies for killing with Luigi. Back air is kind of my go-to now, but the percentage has got to be huge for it to work. Up B obviously works great, but hitting with that is obviously tough, and easy to punish with a whiff, so I rarely go that route unless I'm sure it'll land. Dsmash is excellent for roll chasing, but it seems nerfed in kill really hardcore. Fsmash and Usmash are the two sure-fire ways, but those typically either require a hard read or a well timed rush/shield/spotdodge to connect.

Basically, I'm left with two kill moves at sub 140% (fsmash and usmash). Not great options. I'm thinking there's some great grab followups I can take advantage of. I've got Luigi's grab game down pretty great for racking up damage (dthrow to 2x fair/uair/what have you), I just need to figure out how to follow up them up with kills.

I also notice that I'm not as good as chasing other players. I can rack up damage well, push them off the stage, but not finish off-stage. I hesitate even though I know Luigi's air game is exceptional and I could easily finish them off with a bair or even an fair if I catch them at a high enough percent. Problem there is that I find a lot of character's hitboxes in the air are a lot bigger than Luigi's, so I frequently just take a hit instead. Either that or their aerial priority is a lot higher.

Anyway, quite a rambly post. Apologies.

TL;DR: I'd like some advice on Luigi kill moves.

I filled out that form btw.

I have a question though. So weekly we face one guy in a set of 5 matches. So after the first set of 5 is done can we still battle each other to our heart's content afterward as long as we mark down the initial Wins/Losses?

Yea, definitely agree there. It's especially annoying when you're a heavy/slow character playing against a projectile character.

Just noticed your name..

..did I just play against you in For Glory for a bunch of games?

Played against a Cedric who used Ness, Robin, Little Mac and uhh Bowser I think.

I had a nick with a kind of a smiley, ',' or something. :D Shulk and Sheik and Little Mac mostly.

Chase. Sm4sh has a lot of emphasis on going off stage to get those kills or get good up-smashes (smaller blast zones), and most characters have recoveries that are simply not going to let them die easily if you don't do anything.

Even with Ike, I can't depend on my bair or tilts to kill (and smashes are slow as fuck). My best bet as I've been learning from DooD and Dawn, are to chase. Push for stage control and then get them off the stage, and push them away and control the ledge.

Luigi has great lagless approaches + tornado, so you should have plenty of options to gain control and pressure your opponent towards an edge. Get them to roll to the edge and you're in a better position, or you can chain your fairs and bairs to push them through hitstun.

Yeah, yeah. :\ I'm so bad at chasing. I always play conservatively so chasing is scary as shit for me. Especially considering Luigi has shit recovery in this game. Bah. I feel it's a huge hole in my game, though.

Have you tried down throw to nair? I've seen a smash player name Boss KO with that move.

Luigi back throw is pretty reliable. Down special sweetspot can kill at high percent.

Smashes....

Not sure what else. Its challenging for a Luigi player for sure

Hmmm...I think I'll send him a challenge as well. Don't have much experience against Dedede as it is, and any experience against good players is always a good thing. Is his NNID Chazo?

Just to respond to some Diddy comments that I didn't bother multi-quoting: Diddy has lots of killing moves... He really doesn't have trouble getting a kill. D-Throw to Uair is very reliable, but Fair and FSmash in themselves are very strong launchers. Dair and Side Special for early spike gimping, Bair for walls of pain, etc. He's solid.
