Holy shit Veelk liked it.
Like is a strong word. It just wasn't an embarassment to itself.
"You are stronger than me. You can send me to jail now"After reading the thread, I thought the ending would be bigger than it was... but at best it's ambiguous enough to make all the shippers happy. It's probably as close to a harem ending that a non-anime can get I suppose.
The Kuvira ending was such a cop out though. Yuck.

This is the part where you must arbitrarily rank the finales.
I am interested to hear what the creators have to say regarding the Korra/Asami thing at the end.
Izumi's doing it herself, probably fire bending into a magnifying glass."You get a lobotomy, and you get a lobotomy, you all get lobotomies! "

You guys are jerks :'(
Anyway, the finale was mehtastic. I'd do a massive write up, but just skimming the last few pages, I think most points I'd make were already covered.
The weird romance at the end with Asami and Korra was pretty much totally unearned. Do you remember how most people thought that Mako and Korra was Bryke's 'apology' to Zutara fans? Well, while it wasn't an apology, I think it could be safely said that they saw the staggering popularity of Zutara and said "Hey, we should tap into dat shit. Fans will love it instantly." Well, that's basically what they did here. They heard complaints in the second season over Asami not getting enough screentime and interaction with Korra, so they gave it to us in season 3. When we got that, the Korassami train really got going so that now they're giving us as close to Korrasami as they can possibly do so on Nick, and feels just as artificial here as it did with Makorra. Because none of it is earned. They started working towards it in season 3, then it was a huge dry spell until hey, now korra and asami are lovers.
I feel I came really close to losing my bet about their not being a deus ex machina, but Korra managed to save me last minute with that random out of nowhere literal spirit energy bending. I mean, it makes more sense, relative to the other shit pulled so far, but come on, what even is spirit energy anymore. Funny enough, Kuvira got a small diabolus ex machina herself, with the ridiculous contrivance that her huge fuck you cannon landed at the exact tree vines that could unbelievably hold the thing up and be pointed at DIRECTLY where Korra enters the forest.
They did an amicable job with the mech, but it's just so hard to believe it was really as unstoppable as everyone made it to be. Really, it's impossible to clog any of their joints or trip it up? Or something? And it's only weapon is incredibly nimble for something that must weigh atleast a 1000 pounds.
Still, I can't deny the decent team work, good character moments, and excellent choreography. The things presented here aren't perfect. (Verrick and Zhu Li shouldn't have jumped straight into marriage, the aforementioned Korrasami moment was unearned, weakly showing Wu to be a 'good' king by having him renounce the monarchy, Kuvira was a bit too repentant by the end, etc) but this is clearly their A team effort, which is better than what we've been getting all season long.
Kuvira managed to get her backstory afterall...or atleast a tiny elaboration on the backstory we already knew. I don't understand why we couldn't have more of those seasons throughout the season. She'd be a really interesting villain if we found out she connected to Korra that much.
A serviceable end what is ultimately a mediocre show that threw ridiculous amounts of potential into the wind.
1) It's not ambiguous at all, just restricted by Nick's rules.
2) Do you even know whata harem ending is
It's totally ambiguous.
The way I interpreted it was definitely "They're best buds forever that are really tight". I didn't really see any sort of romance there whatsoever.
I'm curious what Janet Varney has to say about it. From what I remember she was never against the shipping.I'm sure they've got some post finale interviews lined up. So we should get some thoughts from them soonish hopefully.
It's totally ambiguous.

The way I took it, you could be open to Mako and Korra hooking up at any point later down the line if you want. The fact that there is no indication that Korra and Asami are interested in each other in anything more than a platonic nature outside of fans being fans lets that particular final scene be read however you want it to be read as well.1) It's not ambiguous at all, just restricted by Nick's rules.

Do you hold both your bro's hands and gaze into their eyes as you're about to head out?

Korra does that with EVERYBODY. Like, who hasn't had a hand-holding eyes-gazing moment with her?
Kuvira.

The best part is korra forgave Kuvira as it showed character development but lost her sit when she saw asami dad. Also republic city army doing shit even after giant meca is defeatedI think the biggest flaw was that the finale had no plot. The end had nothing to say about the series as a whole. And the season really amounted to nothing. We also didn't get any sort of resolution for Korra in terms of a conclusion to her journey.
I just watched the finale for a 3rd time. And I'm finding myself enjoying the finale a bit more in terms of pure entertainment. Action set pieces were cool. The team effort with the fighting was fun and used everyone well. So purely as an episode with action and pacing, it was quite good. But in terms of plot and themes, it just had nothing to say.
It's kind of crazy how I can be 44 min of nothing. By far the biggest misstep was the half baked Kuvira. She was very one note. And the season focused too much on Kuvira. Also it's insulting how Kuvira was "I always get what I want", slave labor camps, eugenics and yet they try to say she was a scared girl trying to protect herself and her people. It's so lazy.
And using Kuvira as a tie in for Korra's resolution was sooooo bizarre.
Anyways what are your thoughts on Korra's suffer for compassion line. It didn't tie in to any plot of Korra's.
It's totally ambiguous.

My exGF and her best friend do it, they both have boyfriends now. They look at each other with great care at emotional moments.
they are really close like that, they say they're sisters and Shit
that's probably why I like to think their relationship is like that, makes more with the series as a whole, without Tumblr interference.
But I can also see it as a romantic relationship, an extremely forced one
It's just, that critic has hammered dramas for doing a lot less with their plot. I don't get the complete free pass this show gets.
Thing is, it's always been this way. Even Book 2 was pretty much free from any kind of criticism. Maybe it's because Western animation isn't as ambitious. And so Korra regardless of flaws, is really impressive. Maybe it's , just people being really massive fans.
But just in terms of critical analysis, I don't get it. I would be okay if people loved it. You can like something, and still find flaws. So that is what is strange to me. Just the complete universal love for it and critics never finding a single flaw. I mean that is their job.
Well then, where's my Varney avatar then?Sure she's into. She does seem to love shipping talk from the interviews i've seen.
Plus there is this.
He's just making sure he doesn't make any sudden moves.![]()
Just saying.
Get outta here. Kuvira needs no one.I'm sure they had one in the spirit world while we weren't looking.

I honestly think they didn't know how to actually write Kuvira's character. From the interviews they did at comic con they had a good idea with her, but there really was just something lacking in the execution with her. They said things, but when it came time to it being portrayed on screen they just really never gave it the time of day. This also shows that Su's a HUGE hypocrite. Granted she never tried to dominate a country but Su did some dumb ass shit as a kid and WANTED FORGIVENESS for it, but never apologized. Kuvira manned up and actually apologized and got nothing at all from anybody. It's like the opposite of the whole Bei Fong family storyline. In some ways she didn't have much of a say in her life. Her family abandoned her, which is the opposite of Amon, whom just walked out on his. She didn't want her people to feel the pain of abandonment like she did. It's a noble aspiration, but it's something I wish they discussed a lot earlier in the season. They never really gave you an idea on how Kuvira thinks, or what she even thinks about. It was just domination domination, evil stare, sneer and shit like that. It would've been nice if she at least had some memento from her parents whether it be a tattered picture or a locket or a set of earrings from her mother that she would use to remind her where she came from, something, anything. I harp on it a lot, but it is something I think about a lot.I think the biggest flaw was that the finale had no plot. The end had nothing to say about the series as a whole. And the season really amounted to nothing. We also didn't get any sort of resolution for Korra in terms of a conclusion to her journey.

Do you hold private vacations with your bros?
Come on now, just imagine if that was Mako or another dude in place of Asami, there would be absolutely no doubt, even without a kiss. I know girls are more touchy feely around each other than guys are but not to that extent, it really couldn't be more obvious.

Amazing ending. Loved it. Really sad Korra is done now, even though I absolutely derided the first 2 seasons.
Holy shit Korrasami is real? lol wow.
Thought it ended kinda abruptly however. We still didnt get resolution for many of the other characters. One more episode would have been great.
I just loved Varricks confession. "Will you do the thing with me for the rest of our lives?" What a smooth talker. And Zhu Li looked so nice when she turned around after Varrick called to her.
Thats true, she did have one with Tenzin 5 minutes earlier.

I'm going to ask my guy friend if he'd like to go on a vacation with me. Just the two of us.
We're going to hold hands and gaze into each other's eyes.
And if anybody wants to see an anime with the villains done right I recommend The Vision of Escaflowne. It's a bit old, but it's a classic.

I'm actually just really disappointed Toph didn't ever get to come in and take out an entire army or smash the giant mech or something else that was awesome.
