Welp I knew nothing about her yesterday. Today I'm a fan. She sees a lot of things as they really are and will learn eventually how to vent those frustrations in more constructive ways and in places where she can better articulate what she feels and why. I hope she listens at some point and starts to use Twitter less for such things. The low character count makes it easy to misunderstand your thoughts, and certainly doesn't offer the opportunity to fully qualify those thoughts.

But yea in most things discussed here...she's not wrong. Occasionally inelegant, but rarely wrong.

Seems like a great person :/
In the context of where that thought came from (TI allowing his wife -- the one person he's supposed to protect in this world -- to be paraded around on TV and portrayed as a blithering idiot for money), she's not wrong.

Cross post from the BCT thread.

The "FUCK EVERYTHING" posts people have been making in regards to the this thread are even more annoying than anything else in this thread. All the posts going "So good..." in response to the aforementioned posts are almost as annoying, because they are acting as if they said anything meaningful.

If your opinion to anything is basically "Everything sucks/Everyone does it, so STFU", then you shouldn't speak on an issue, and that goes for music, gaming, anything. It adds nothing to the discussion. With that being said, whether or not you like Iggy's music, Bank's music, or Rap music in general is irrelevant. Which artists are eating, and who aren't, is also irrelevant. Other White rappers succeeding in Hip-Hop with little to no flak? Irrelevant. Whether or not you personally find the Grammys meaningful? Irrelevant.

Participating in, being successful from, and being a part of a culture different from yours regardless of race, is not the problem. People from outside the culture crowning a person who is not only NOT a true, quality representative of said culture, but is also a racist one at that, IS the problem. People from outside the culture crowning Whites within the culture not due to the merits of their music, but do to the fact that they're White, IS the problem. So many people pouring accolades and praise on a person who doesn't even respect the people responsible for the culture that made that person famous, IS the problem.

First I want to salute you for actually posting in the thread and not hiding in BCT like some of the busters in there. If you have something to say, say it - don't hide in your lil community thread talking bout what you woulda coulda shoulda said. Respect.

I agree that it's frustrating seeing white people get celebrated for doing shit minorities have done for decades. Dave Brubeck is a perfect example in jazz - he was essentially hailed for "civilizing" jazz and gained a lot of short term success and opportunities better jazz artists didn't receive. That being said, Brubeck was a real dude, wasn't a racist, and went out of his way to highlight the black members of his band. So I don't blame Brubeck anymore than I blame Eminem for the white people who put them on a pedestal.

We see this in every Eminem thread where wack ass posters (who are probably <18 years old) appear out of nowhere to explain why Eminem is the greatest ever, no one could possibly be on his level, etc etc - and it's clear they don't listen to hip hop outside of Eminem. "Oh man have you heard RAP GOD?! No one can touch Eminem!" Fuckouttahere gumps. I hate that shit, but I don't blame Eminem for it. Hell he has even acknowledged that he'd just be some underground rapper if he was black.

Iggy takes this to another level because unlike Eminem, she's not a great rapper. She's not even a good or serviceable rapper - she's trash. But there are plenty of rappers today who are trash, so it's hard for me to get rustled by her. And despite having two huge hits her album still isn't gold. That tells me her popularity is inflated. Apparently she's about to go on an arena tour - something Drake couldn't even do after two albums. If that's not white privilege I don't know what is...but at the same time, that tour is gonna bomb and she'll take an L. She sucks live and doesn't really have a fan base.

Are you high? She's put down his wife multiple multiple times for no reason. This isn't because she's offended how he treats his wife. And you really want to sweep her shitheaded remarks and hate speak under the rug as "occasionally inelegant"? She doesn't deserve a fraction of the attention she gets.

This. The accent thing is ridiculous. Keith Urban (Australian country singer) sings with a Southern twang and I don't remember seeing a bunch of rednecks jumping up and down when he started to make some coin off it.
Yeah because that's the same thing. :/

They're both fucking garbage. Banks is probably worse for her defense of Cosby but fucking Shitgy is a racist sack of shit. Ugh, what a pitiful set of women.

As a BCT member...I agree.

People with more to lose have spoken up about it, most more coherently and without fighting racism with double down racism. We shouldn't pay Banks any attention, really. She is a perfect concoction of doing it wrong and 1upping everything you are criticizing.

Completely false as evidenced by what happened to Asher Roth, which was a tiny bit tamer too (plus nobody really believes Roth was racist either, and there's certainly a bit more going for Iggy). She would drop out of the sky on an instant.

White privilege of hip-hop is a sizably larger fan base based on your skin color and a slightly more expansive creative license with restrictions in some race-related places. I don't think we're nearly at the point where any rapper who is white can pop off like that, since they still get hit with 10x more scrutiny trying to enter the game and most won't even get heard for their skin color.
Roth? Damn that's a name I haven't heard in while, what happened to him?

No, it's the white media that's trying to bring Cosby down. So, championing him is only fair. I mean, black folks can't have shit. Not even their own Roman.

I can't believe that's whom people are hoisting up as the voice of the now.

I liked Greenhouse Effect Vol 1.

"I got the fresh bowl cut (unh), curly blonde locks (okay). L-A gears light up when I walk
Floss, in my O'sh K'osh B'gosh overalls, match my He-Man lunchbox. Overall probably say I was an 8 only because I was running a slight bit late, on my first day of first grade with Ms. Smith"

Then his album came out...and I left.

He has exhibited coonish behavior. Its all relative though because Azaelia has to me too.

Could you explain to me (as a non-American) what he (and according to you also Azaelia) did that deserves to be called a shoe shining coon, because that seems a really harsh insult.

Don't indulge him please. The short answer will be something like "making money by making music that white people like and for cosigning Iggy".

I somehow feel semi-responsible for Iggy's career. I was one of the 438,000 that purchased (during the first day) Ariana Grande's hit song, Problem, which featured Iggy Azalea. It's kind of an untold fact that the success of Problem jump started Iggy's general public recognition, which lead to the explosive success of her own song, Fancy. Granted, Problem was a larger hit on a global scale.

I blame the radio. No real DJ would play trash 24/7. It's basically advertisement for highly marketable artists. Which isn't the same as being talented.

The thing about Eminem is that the lyricists that are as good as or better than him don't get much radio play. So it's hard to blame someone for thinking that way.

Don't wanna hear the truth?

Also it has nothing to do with "making music white people enjoy" and everything to do with being a part of the systematic destructive representation of brown people produced and exported worldwide.

Don't create straw men when I am out here trying to make sure your kids have it better than we did.

It's okay man, we forgive you.

He is a part of the systematic destructive culture that is being produced to show negative images of brown people worldwide. No different than Stepin Fetchit, and him getting on VH1 where that thing he calls a wife can barely read is more proof of this.

She's been somewhat popular since songs pussy and two times from 2011.

Yea posting on GAF is definitely helping the future generation of black kids in America.

I volunteer once a week during the school year in Atlanta Public schools tutoring kids in some of the most high risk areas of Atlanta(the same kids who Clifford Harris claims to represent as he sends his kids to private schools and lives in his Buckhead mansion). You are free to come with me when the school year starts. The more the merrier. :)

Yeah, um... unless she turns out to be a serial child molester or some shit, I don't think that's actually possible. And if that's the case, they should release their info immediately to the cops.

This.
If something as serious is true, and i seriosly doubt it, who gives a shit what she said about that one other girl that one time.

But yeah this is probably bullshit, and just tired internet tough talk.

Imagine what would happen if a white country singer said a black artist had to call their music something else...

There wouldn't be a civilized discussion pondering if he/she has a point, I can tell you that much. There would likely be demands that their record label drop the artist immediately, all future concert dates to be cancelled, and all albums to be removed from iTunes and store shelves. Followed by comments about how Country music as a whole is just a bunch of racist, white trash rednecks

There's zero tolerance when the roles are reversed. Double standard.

Thank jebus that people rarely make sweeping generalizations about rap music, and black people as a result...

Or you can come with me any time. I volunteer all year round in Broward FL helping inner city youth and the homeless. That doesn't magically make you or me better than anyone else. Yet despite all this you don't see me making crazy militant statements based off half truths and some deep seeded hate of white people because of interactions with a few.

Edit: And if I had kids, I'd send them to private school in a heart beat.

What are your thoughts on white people
