Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

10 feet is pretty close range and you're completely taking strafing out of the equation.

Why can't people understand that strafing and abilities cancel each other out. In order to gauge two weapons you have to assume that you have identical players on both ends of the battle.

I just finished watching a bunch of beta matches and it looks OK. I'm actually pretty optimistic about h5 now. Screw MCC, I want to play the beta

What's your point? It takes skill to get into a position to use a shotgun effectively for a long period of time. Aiming ability and tactics should be rewarded and you don't need either of these to use a spray and pray AR.

This is bordering on elitism now. ''Oh I have a BR I'm the fucking king'' If somebody has a strong BR then getting outshot by an AR user isn't spray and pray is it? People still have to aim, it's not exactly COD here where people get extremely lucky by holding down the trigger.

The sooner people get over the fact that the AR is now a viable alternative and drop this whole ''pro player'' stance the better. If people really are as good with the BR as they believe then getting killed by somebody supposedly just holding down the trigger and hoping for the best is poor.

Aren't the guns about maximizing it's usage? Why should a BR player be rewarded for beating an AR user at close range when the gun is not meant for that?

Pretty much this. Weapon selection is a skill too, one that hasn't really been a factor in Halo for a long ass time. CE had its moments, since it was... differently balanced, but 2 (the competitive standard) was absolutely BR or bust, and the only reason 3 wasn't the same was because they turned the BR into a slot machine, and still it dominated the sandbox. Having effective automatics means that players actually have to pick the right weapon for the right part of the map, rather than just using the BR 100% of the time.

That said, I do think they should tone down the degree to which Smart Scope tightens up the spread. Keep it in, just reduce it so that isn't able to win with any sort of consistency vs. a BR at mid range, and it should always lose at longer ranges.

SMG I'm not sure, since that's almost a mini power weapon. I think you'd see a lot less "holy shit at the SMG" type comments if it was a SAW instead.

How much of a difference would you guys say pulsing the trigger makes with the AR?

[EDIT] - And the SMG too, while I'm at it.

I've experienced the complete opposite. The BR was still the most dominant weapon on the map in the hands of somebody who knows how to use it.
Exactly how it should be. I remember hating how much the BR just started to dominate halo 3 over the years, if you didn't have a one hit kill blast weapon you would be dead within seconds thanks to the constant barrage of BR.

Excellent post.

Yet they dont cancel each-other out because they are 2 different weapons that function differently. I havent had any issues killing ARs with my BR in close range.

honestly i'm tired of talking about the beta lol. I want to play it. *shakes fists at 343i*

Smart scope gets rids of pulsing the trigger unless its the SMG.

Not really. Once you master your abilities you will not feel that way. I honestly have more trouble with AR versus AR because I prefer my precision weapons lol Like even the pistol beats the AR.

Seriously, I feel like you not reading a thing I say. You cannot gauge the effectiveness of a weapon by bringing in game cancelling mechanics. I can use your same argument to say the AR is better than the AR because I can strafe or thrust better. You are missing the point of comparing two different weapons using the same parameters, which is the only way to see which weapon is truly better at a certain range.

Having a BR or AR does not make you strafe better or thrust further so yes they do cancel each other out.

The weapons function differently. One is a single fire 3 round burst and one is an auto fire weapon. I never have issues killing ARs with my BR.

You are missing the point of how the weapons actually act in use in game instead of having 2 players stand 10 feet apart without moving.

I've read what you said, but they don't cancel out. only way to prove what you want is to have a custom game which is not available. Right now though BR still trumps all.

Doesn't seem to be for everyone. Guy linked to a stream in progress a short while back.

Speaking of: lol @ that elated reaction to the successful Ground Pound. :p

lol When I played with my Halo buds, we all were "wtf?" "smh" "is this cod?". Although I don't see it getting much use.

The fire type does not matter. The BR can miss just as easily as the AR when someone is strafing/thrusting. I too can get kills at close range with a BR over an AR but that is due to the player with the AR missing shots.

Button pressing simulator v2.0. Press X to kill, press F to pay respects.
Sorry, had to.

Hope 343i nails it this time. Halo 5 could use some crazy vehicular combat in campaign. I was saying this in the HaloGAF thread earlier today, but how awesome would a Cobra vs Locusts or a Sparrowhawk vs Banshees/Vampires fight be? We need new vehicles!!!

Pretty sure the War Sphinx is in. The trailer showed it a year ago and the Halo 5 cutscenes before and after Halo 2 Anniversary show a holgram of a War Sphinx.

More awesome set pieces would be great. The Halo 2 Scarab set pieces was amazing and is still amazing today.

Just want to know more about the overall direction. I think the new abilities also add a lot more dynamism to SP, I saw one guy using Clamber + Thrust to basically reach the top in Truth map for some sniping.

so get better at the game? I dont know what you're trying to argue. I dont have issues killing ARs with my BR like others in this thread have said.

I give up. You refuse to read the premise of my argument so obviously this is going nowhere.

Could someone explain to me what sprint adds to Halo 5? It's nerfed so hard it's only useful when running from spawn and jumping some certain jumps. If they tweaked those jumps and upped the movement speed (15-20 %) games pacing would be almost the same and the game would play more like Halo.

And we're back online...

Getting a warm fuzzy feeling as the room fills up.

Twice now it has kicked me with a flashing screen
