Welp, Ep.1 definitely was "Professor Dio teach How to be a son of a bitch 101".

Still, the art was really great, it looks better than some manga images i occasionally saw.
Early JoJo manga can be pretty rough in the art department. Araki didn't really come into his own until Part 4.

A friend of mine is pushing for me to start this series, but where do i start?
I saw there's a 2012 series but some OAVs from 10 years before.

Ignore the OVAs until you finish the current series, then watch the last three episodes.

The final battle is insane in the OVA, would actually be surprised if they manage to top it.

Oh man, I loved DIO's Japanese voice in the OVAs. He sounded like a real stuck up brat, which he is. It's better than TYPICAL ANIME BADGUY we have now.

TAKE THAT BACK. Dio's current VA is absolutely perfect. That guy knows exactly who he's playing and is having a blast.

I also think the OVAs are fine but I didn't like the changes they made. Everyone just sounds so bored all the time as well.

Yeah I kind of want to rewatch Part 1 again for Dio-sama, dude was hilarious. The VA knows Dio is a one note villain, but Dio absolutely loves being a one note villain.

He's fine, I just think the old guy stood out more.

But I started JoJo with the OVAs, so I'm biased towards it.

Man, I gotta catch up. I got bored with the villain of the week stuff and stopped watching when they were on the boat, but the part I've been waiting for is coming up....

I started at whatever Crunchyroll has as "jojo's bizzare adventure" with Episode 1 - Dio the Invader

is that the 2012 series or did I fuck this up

I'm liking it, regardless

This is my like... 3rd anime ever

EDIT:
That's correct.

perfect, then. I've watched the first 9 episodes and fucking dio man

I wasn't expecting that though!

Part 1 plot summary:

Up to Ep.6 and i have mixed feelings for this.

I like the art and the over-the-top everything, but it still feels like the showdoesn't know where to go. Also, Hamon and power levels are quite messy already this early in the series
but i probably got spoiled by Nen in HxH
.

But i'll keep on, i heard Startdust Crusaders is the superior part.

Battle Tendency is the superior part. That shit is so over the top and the posing so epic you won't be able to turn back.

Each part seems to have distinctly different tones, settings, characters and potentially pacing, so I don't know if there's really a hard consensus on any superior part compared to another. At least, from the anime, I currently prefer both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency to Part 3, with Part 2 easily being my favorite.

Part 1 is good towards the end. Part 2 is when the series gets going though, it's all up hill from there.

You haven't seen over-the-top yet.

And JoJo doesn't really have power levels. It's all about ingenuity and battle smarts. You'll see.

I know I saw clips of the newer game coming out and got introduced to
Diego Brando the horse riding raptor Jesus
. My god that part can't come fast enough and I haven't even read the manga.

Personally my favorite Dio voice actor was from the old Capcom fighting games.

I was actually going to say he was the best as a joke earlier but he actually is pretty good.

I would run away as fast as you could from that game if you don't want to be spoiled.

Yeah I stopped half way. Luckily I don't know anything in context and I highly doubt this game is hitting the states so I highly doubt I'd ever play it, looks fun though.

The last Jojo game got localized and Namco just announced a couple of other anime games are coming over so there's a slight chance it could make it here.

Finished Phantom Blood.

Curious to see where it goes from here, since everybody tells me it changes a lot every series.
And this one was definitely weak for me: linear plot, un-coherent artstyle (the concept itself, the anime graphics are very well done), the hamon asspulls and random power levels.
But still, i guess you definitely fell like it's a work from late '80s/early '90s.

Hamon is life, it doesn't need power levels.

Battle Tendency is really, really good. You won't regret it.

Dude Part 2 is fucking awesome, it definitely steps the pacing and fight quality up a lot. The villains aren't as charismatic or repulsive as Dio, but it's very fun. Part 3 changes the series up a lot as well so be prepared.

I'm honestly shocked it came over since Namco hates localizing their Gundam games and I can't even play it because it has a lot of spoilers to it.

Reflecting laser beams with small glasses, Nazis... welp Battle Tendency surely starts waaay more crazier than Phantom Blood.

Joseph is definitely a more entrataining guy to follow than Jonathan.

Meanwhile, i did some research on the author... wow the man's amazing.

His style is so peculiar, so much it drew attention of something like Gucci and motherfucking Louvre.

It definitely trascends the traditional image of mangaka.

And he looks classy as fuck.

Oh
Stroheim's
not even done yet. Joseph is not Jonathan and he's even more awesome for it. Keep watching I can't wait to see your reactions on certain things. Once that part climaxed I couldn't stop watching it.
Must be the work of an enemy Stand.
