Vesperia had an amazing lead with Yuri. Why can't we have more leads that good?

Ludger would have been good if he had just talked.

Well Yuri is legitimately one of the best JRPG protags in years, guess it doesn't happen that often, no?

I actually liked Jude more than Ludger especially since he
punches out a god after tanking his meteor bullshit, all for his waifu :3

Is the trailer not available anywhere? I googled, nothing (except last year's Jump Festa lol)

Nothing yet. Nobody could or cared to get any offscreen footage I guess.

Why isnt this on ps4?

No urgent need for their main market and they can always make one later if they want to squeeze more money out of the game and/or fill gaps in the schedule, so I guess they figured an immediate cross-gen release wouldn't be worth any delays.

They've gone back to every console Tales since like...2006, and usually within 12-15 months. Unless this is the one time since that they decide to leave the game as it is and move on, or think they're better off continuing to release stuff for the PS3 well into 2015, I don't feel like a PS4 version is a long shot.

I like how they ditched Sakuraba in all the recent trailers.
Dat Go Shiina track, it makes everything more exciting.

Looks really really last gen....

Could be me, but some animations don't really look smooth at all, I had the feeling they were trying to only show the best parts in the trailers of the previous episodes.

Like how we're only hearing Shiina's compositions now too.

Bull. I don't mind characters who grow at all. The parts about Ludger I really did like was on how he had to reflect on his tough choices and his relationship with Elle. The ending is some really powerful stuff, probably tugged on my heart strings more than any other Tales game did.

The problem with many of the leads isn't that they grow or have to deal with consequences or make tough choices. Luke is completely insufferable at the start of Abyss (although he gets better). Asbel doesn't project any strength at all. And Emil is puke-in-my-mouth levels of bad because the writers don't incorporate any subtlety in that character at all. Lloyd is okay I guess, but nothing exceptional.

Luke is insufferable. I didn't like his development at all either, but I'd glady take him over Asbel. Asbel doesn't have any trait that would make you think it's the main character outside screen time.

Jude is a really good character. If we're talking about well developed MC in Tales games he sure will take the crown. His development in Xillia is really, really well done and I really liked his relationship with Milla and Gaius.

Yuri's best trait is how he pushes the other party members forward when they need too. Even if he doesn't get much development he has a key role in the changes the rest of the cast goes through during the game.

Every time this thread is bumped, I think we might have finally gotten the PS4 announcement... Then, reality sets in.... dammit

I always think the same thing. I'm positive we will but not until after the game comes out.

Is this a different engine from xillia?

So not much different than the Xillia games. I hope they're overall better than Xillia 2 though, which had some of the best scenes in the series, but also a lot of stuff ones.

Definitely liking how the Shiina music gives this game a different and better feel.

Doesn't look bad. No Tales other than Vesperia has made me impressed by its graphics and this seems par for the course.

Not sure if I should get this from the start or wait to an inevitable PS4 port or for it to drop to $20 in price. Though I still want to support the series so I might get it day one.

The Alisha = Hyōma thing seems really far fetched.
She's still nowhere to be seen in the party though.

The whole calling Slay's name at the end of the trailer is just going to sound silly in English.

Suddenly, everybody will be Colette! Can't wait for that!

Just noticed Zaveid is the one calling Slay and not Dezel... Alisha and Dezel missing halfway through the game, that's how we get our usual 6 party members!

where are you people importing/buying this from?

I'd like cheaper alternatives to play-asia. it's $70 there.

Nippon Yasan, they often ship late though. Or Amiami, but you don't know the shipping fee.

Anyone doing an OT?

It'll be about that from anywhere. It's 8280 yen, which at the current exchange rate works out to $68.

I'm personally buying from P-A because I'm getting the Asian version, just in case there's any bonuses for having saves from other games as has been the case with several of the other games (I have the Asian releases of every other PS3 Tales).

Still undecided on if I'm importing this or not, but if I were, I'll just get it from AmiAmi. Maybe with their pre-order bonus for the hell of it.

I already have an AmiAmi order so it's not like I'm going to paying that much more for shipping.

Kinda disappointed that both fusions seem to have the same attacks and stuff. Not really sold on the feature as a whole really, hopefully more interesting applications of it get unlocked in the full game.

I'm getting it from Amiami and the conversion rate has it at around $61, but with shipping it'll probably go up to $75-80. :P

Kayos is doing it for the western release but I'm not sure if there was an agreement on the import thread, if no one comes forward I guess I could put together something small.

Idk why but the combat videos don't excite me like they did Graces' did... *sigh*

The whole pre-release period has been one crazy rollercoaster ride, that's for sure:

- Oh, hey, new Tales... and it looks Graces-esque.
- Open world? Hopefully the fields aren't even bigger, more barren and generic than in Xillia...
- ...which, yep, they seem to be. Wait, are those ACTUAL DUNGEONS?
- Then again this Sakuraba stuff sounds kind of bl-holy shit Go Shiina returns!
- Battle system is definitely Graces-esque, no TP and side-step...
- ... but it looks messy and chaotic from the hands-on videos.
- Maybe this new fusion system will be a cool gimmick instead of an underused novelty like linking characters or making "choices",
- Boy, I sure didn't see that one coming.
- Ufotable returns!

Oh, well, it'll be out soon enough and with any luck it'll be pretty good. I just hope their apparent efforts to appeal to both Team Destiny and Symphonia fans don't leave everyone unhappy instead.

With how combo friendly Tales games have been getting in recent years, TP doesn't make sense. It's such a weird artificial limit that disrupts battle flow (pause->heal TP, or rely on the crap auto-item AI, or mashing attack like a mad man), and by late game your characters are so broken that TP doesn't even do its desired effect of limiting strong arte use.

Resource management in RPGs is cool, but in Action RPGs it can be tedious.

Waiting for CC/AC to refill is ass.

CC, you can do stuff like critical hit, or have your partners combo between cooldown.

Waiting for CC/AC to refill is ass.

By the time you gain the skills and weapons to increase your min/max CC limit, it really doesn't matter anymore.

Dodging and combing off stun also mitigates this.

There are a ton of ways to constantly maintain your CC. Combos with CC are cooler too.

I wouldn't mind a traditional TP system, but I think that calls for a different style of play than they've been encouraging for the past couple of games. It feels out of place with the fast, combo-heavy approach to combat that they're into at the moment.

I was under the impression that you already called the import thread.

Oh, maybe I did and forgot. It's been a while since the game was first announced, not used to Tales games taking so long to release.

The Kamui system looks terrible imo. Depriving yourself of an extra character is dumb in and of itself, but now it seems the Kamui transformations have their own move sets that are the exact same for Rose and Sorey which is lame.

It's kinda like linking except seemingly worse in every way thus far. I was definitely considering inporting but with the quick localization time, I can wait.
