Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

How was the series in the past? I just don't understand these arguments. We haven't had "classic" Halo since 2007. What was Reach and Halo 4? Attempts to evolve the gameplay that ultimately didn't work.

ADS being shoehorned into the game isn't evolving it. Some would argue it detracts from the series, trying to cater to a group of players from other series who probably wouldn't come.

It's not about the series in the past. It's about changing what made Halo, Halo. Look at CE to Halo 2 or Halo 3. Now fans of each will argue why they liked whichever one, but aside from slight changes to movement speed, jump/damage, new weapons and vehicles, and new gametypes, the only major changes to gameplay were things like dual wielding, boardable vehicles, equipment etc. Now look at Reach and Halo 4. Why does no one bring those up? People say, keep playing Halo 2 or CE or 3 if you don't like where Halo 5 is headed. Why can't I say, you got two newer games of evolved gameplay, keep playing Reach or Halo 4.

If it were me, the first thing I'd do is cut ADS/Smart Scope. It's unnecessary to the gameplay. It's slow, cumbersome, clunky to come out of sprint or clamber, reduces peripheral vision and creates blind spots, and just doesn't even fit with story canon.

I'd also cut sprint. The nerfs don't help. Coupled with thruster, it's even easier to avoid firefights and encounters because you can thrust and get out of the enemies sight and just hoof it somewhere else and heal. The only difference is, now you have unlimited sprint, but have to wait an extra 2-3 seconds for white bar to go down before shields recharge.

I would up base movement to compensate because you till move painfully slow when not sprinting or using thrust. Ground and Pound I have a feeling will break flow just like jet pack when people get the intricacies down. As we get more maps, open maps, different elevations, were going to see it used as a means of map traversal, just watch. Was barely used by me or others aside from a few cheap kills. Can be removed with no detraction to gameplay. Same goes for the sprint dash. Seems superfluous to add something hardly anyone uses at all. Sprint charge needs to go because it really messes up assassinations while sprinting, and it takes away from the gunplay. Some guy is sprinting and saw you first, before you can even get a shot off, you're killed from behind/sides of you lost all your shields instantly. Clamber I like, I do feel there was no reason left to even jump in the game anymore. Hardly any trick jumps, crouch jump areas at all. Just automatic clamber over everything.

I had fun with the beta, but I'm just saying, these things will pester me as time goes on. The same happened with Reach and Halo 4. People said Reach was the evolution the series needed, was fun as hell during beta. Halo 4 same thing. While people identified possible problems, it wasn't until actual launch that most got their hands on it and saw it wasn't really fun. This upcoming beta will be the real test. 3 weeks with only MCC owners/Halo fans.

People just dont get that they already messed with Halo to many times and thats why everyone left. A return to it's roots IS evolving. Why can't there just be a classic zoom option?

I find it very addicting... Loved it in SC2 and had no idea it was going to be like this in halo 5. As bad as it is to admit I ignored a lot of my weekend activities last weekend in an effort to get up to onyx rank before the beta expired.

I was too. I found it really made me try a lot harder. It is nice to have immediate feedback as well.

I need it in my veins. I need it now. So anyone else interested to see the covie weapons? Wondering what kind of buff the plasma rifle got after seeing the AR.

I think the only Covenant weapon we'll see in this beta is the sword, sadly :(

We'll be getting the Light Rifle though, so... there's that, I guess :P

I've always thought the carbine should have the fastest possible kill time of the precision weapons. It takes the most shots therefore takes the most precision.

It's a good and fast headshot weapon for enemies with no shields, for MP it's always been rather bad outside of halo 3 beta where it was a little too good.

WHICH WEAPON DO YOU WANT TO SEE DURING PHASE 2 OF THE HALO 5: GUARDIANS MULTIPLAYER BETA?

POLL ENDS 1/1/2015

Your first choice is the UNSC Rocket Launcher. This pain machine should be familiar to all Halo players as one the most powerful weapons in the game. Next up is a brand-new weapon to the Halo universe: the Hydra MLRS – a rapid-fire missile launcher that can lock onto a target.

It's the first major redesign of the RL isn't it?

Doesn't bother me much, but it does look like a generic launcher with the UNSC logo stamped on it.

It wasn't articulated particularly well (not that I could have done any better), but I feel him on Halo 4 feeling like Halo, but not, while Halo 5 arguably has more on-paper differences, but still manages to capture the spirit of the series much more effectively.

I think what immediately comes to mind is weapon and map control. I think telling everyone where the power weapons is a step towards making it more accessible but it's still more enjoyable than ordinance drops.

The new launcher really is a slap in the face to Halo Aesthetics. Its 2557 For Crying Out Loud, make it more futuristic looking than a damn pipe with a trigger attached to it

They probably heard everyone kvetching about how "busy" and "needlessly futuristic" the new Forerunner look was, and went "alright, you heard 'em guys, let's dial it back across the board."

:P

That reminds me, I hope to god they bring the rail gun back. That was my favorite thing about Halo 4.

That rocket launcher looks pretty bad. I can dig it if it's single shot and slightly less dominant now though.

You can tell it's a 2-shot, but from they description they might have removed lockon?

Conspiracy hat:

They only really wanted to test out the Hydra, so they mocked up a fake rocket launcher redesign so everyone would vote against it.

What I want to know is how the new rocket launcher holds two rockets.

I would be okay with that.

Would have to watch the reload to be sure, but I'd guess that one of the boxes on the side is a clip.

Which, mechanically speaking, is a much better way of going about a 2-shot rocket launcher, but w/e.

They did that 343 magic of having to redesign something simply because they want to prove they can do it better than Bungie did. meanwhile all it's doing is shitting on classic loved designs.
Yep, pretty much. Such an iconic weapon replaced by an ugly generic green tube. Ridiculous.

What will be next, replacing the Warthog with a Humvee?
