Sony announces 18.5 million PlayStation 4 consoles sold WW

Nope. Almost 7m in the US, 1m in Japan and 10m in Europe? Which leaves the rest of the world with 500k? PS4 has been confirmed to be selling a lot more than any console has ever done in the rest of the world so that's pretty much impossible. Should be more like almost 7m US, ~8.5m Europe, 1m Japan, 2m ROW

We almost never get any information on ROTW, so there's no real basis to go by.

I'm starting to think Uncharted 4 may outsell Halo 5

No way man .

Oh yes it will, by a ton.

Starting?

It was obvious.

Not gonna happen.

Highly doubt it, but it's pretty crazy that these are comparable now sales-wise

I think 1st party games from Sony will just see a huge boost in sale in general. We saw this with MS and its first party games due to having a bigger install base during the last gen. Im getting the feeling U4 may not be the last uncharted once Sony looks at the numbers they will definitely get this gen.

I would bet on it.

Looks like an even split. Interesting, thought I was being a bit controversial tbh.

Wow 18.5 was my guess for sold through by the beginning of January.

And now comes the deluge of software throughout 2015. I'm going to go ahead and guess a cool 25 million sold in 2015.

By the time Uncharted hits it could be close to 40 million consoles out there. Should make for a fun holiday season

Well if you call 2:1 PS2 like then I guess you're right. I just don't think 100m vs 50m~ is the same as 155m vs 24m.
What if after four years and ~20M sales, MS pull the plug on the XB3 just like they did the XB1? Keep in mind that the US and UK are really the only viable markets for XB3 at this point. I'd be surprised if they combined for much for than 5M/year from here on out. Even that seems a bit optimistic.

On that same note, two-thirds of lifetime XB1 sales (16M of 24M total) came from NA. 25% (6M) came from Europe, but I don't think they're doing as well there this time.

The PS4 has had an amazing first year, Andrew house and co will feel like the wolf of wallstreet, that would make some great gifs, lol.

Sony did a fantastic job with marketing the PS4 at pre launch and its held pretty much. They were also massively helped by the train wreck what was the Xbox One pre launch.

By the end of the generation Playstation Plus will be a multibillion business for Sony. Craziness. And they owe it all to Microsoft for making it palatable for the consumer to pay for online last generation.

Honestly don't think software really matters all that much when it comes to hardware sales this year. Do people really think Bloodborne or The Order are going to move that many systems? Uncharted will be the only game that can make an impact on that kind of scale.

The third party stuff is what primarily moved 360s over PS3s last gen and I feel like Sony realized that too, they aren't churning out first party games like they did last gen and really had a focused push on making sure that the PS4 was where you went for the biggest third party games. That and realizing how much money they left on the table by not making PS+ mandatory like XBL Gold last gen seemed to be the two things they really wanted to correct the most.

Take note Nintendo, this is what great hardware at a great price and caring about your fanbase gets you.

I can't speak for everybody, but i'm a very happy Nintendo customer. I don't see why you have to attack Nintendo in a thread about PS4 sales.

Assuming that butchers job of a translation means that there are 10.9 million PS+ subscribers...

This is a terrible result.
PS+ is without a doubt the best gaming proposition in the history of mankind, and to only have 10% of your PS3 & PS4 user base on it is embarrassing, for both Sony & humanity in general :)

Its only talking about PS4 in relation to those numbers.

Its over 50%.

Well deserved, the consumers are probably enjoying the console as well unlike the Wii.

2015 should be a great year, hope Sony goes aggressive with pricecuts and pursuing Japanese devs.

They won't hurt though. They help maintaining this momentum.

Does anyone know if the Xbox One sales of 10 million that was announced recently was sold through or shipped? Just wondering what the sold to consumers difference is between the PS4 and Xbox One.

That PSplus sales number is whats the megaton here. Locking MP was the easiest evil announcement sony got away with two years ago.

iirc it was "approaching 10m shipped" but I might be wrong

To sell that much without the "big" guns (imo of course) is huge, when uncharted 4 comes out D:
We were hongry for next gen

I have 2 of those 18.5 million PS4 :3

I am still peeved that they put a paywall in front of online gaming, which should really be free. Thanks Microsoft, I guess.
(I do have a PS+ subscription, but mainly because the games are excellent value for money.)

Kaz is starting to talk about these numbers now at CES. It will probably just be about numbers but hopefully something cool gets announced.

People saying Uncharted won't sell more than Halo...

If just half of PS4 owners buy Uncharted, going by the numbers we have, ALL XB1 owners would have to buy Halo to sell as much. All of them.

Come on now...

It is an interesting point. I'm certain gaming has grown significantly since 2006 regardless. I'd guess that as more good games hit the machine there will be a lot more sales than we have seen thus far on all platforms

Yeah but I would say most of the growth has been in the mobile space as more and more powerful smartphones have come out. I'd even say that at least some of that growth has been to the detriment of game consoles as some gamers move from owning consoles to just playing games on their phones. This wasn't much of an issue in 2006.
