iQue DS to hit China on June 15th

Haha, now the Chinese government is going to use the powerful CPU in the DS to launch nukes with a TOUCH SCREEN! :lol

So how do these Japanese products do in China, anyhow? I'm sure the PS2 is a big hit (piracy and all not withstanding). Does the GBA sell well?

So Nintendo = iQue right? Is that how it's pronounced in Mandarin? Is there a Japanese equivalent of the Kanji?

No. Nintendo is already written in Kanji in Japanese right? The Chinese pronounciation of the kanji would be something like Yum Tian Tong, which would literally mean 'No-matter-what heaven'.

They must be using the iQue brand either to not appear as Japanese, to promote a cheaper brand or just to protect the Nintendo brand.

I believe if you sell something in China, you have to have a company based in China. iQue is funded by Nintendo, but it's owned by some gaijin in China and based there. It's just a doorplate really, but it's a legal necessity.

I don't know the price, or the games, but the officlal site has a countdown timer that leads to June 15th at midnight:

I wonder if they'll get Nintendogs :)
Oooh, a sure hit... they'd eat that game up!

How weird....

Does anyone know how Nintendo does with the iQue line? are they making any considerable amount of profit at all? I still don't get why they have to rename their products... Surely everyone knows Nintendo in China?

More importantly, he'll be able to see both the camera at the tip of the warhead and the world map with the nuke's GPS location on the top screen.

iQue probably means "pirated" in Chinese. It's a marketing strategy. :p

Does Nintendo count these as DS sales in their financial reports?
iQue Ltd is an indepedant subsidiary, like The Pokemon Company. Their sales are likely reported seperately.

I'm a bit surprised iQue hasn't released more games though. They still only have 2 GBA titles out (Mario Advance & Wario Land 4) and their last N64 release was Sin & Punishment over half a year ago. They need more content, especially on GBA... unless GBA games are just so pirated it doesn't matter?

iQue is owned by Nintendo and Dr. Wai Yen, former vice president of Silicon Graphics and ArtX.

does anyone know how many the iQue has sold?

I didn't know a Chinese man is considered a gaijin in China. The person who is spearheading the Ique venture with Nintendo happens to have been one of the people who worked at SGI on the N64 chipsets, then went off with Van Orton to form ArtX. He sold his share in ArtX to ATI and opened up shop in China. :D

When I was in China last year, I never saw any iQue. I saw tons of bootleg PS2 games and Jp PS2. Sony also sells the white "chinese PS2" which nobody buys because you can't mod it. I saw some Xbox bootlegs.

The majority of Chinese play Chinese PC games, tons of mmmmmrpg, some FPS, and some PS2.

I don't know what Nintendo is doing, everyone still calls Nintendo "Ren-Tien-Tang" Also the bootleg GBA games are $5 USD a pop, but they don't have the save function. :lol :lol

nothing special
today iQue China announced iQue DS will be released around July 2005
and the games are in Chinese language
Did they mention which games?

edit-Just checked the site... seems iQue is releasing a ton of games for all platforms...

iQue DS
-Super Mario 64 DS
-Wario Ware DS
-Yoshi Touch & Go
-Nintendogs
-Polarium
-Band Bros

iQue GBA
-Wario Ware
-Metroid: Zero Mission

iQue Player
-Excitebike 64

Not "iQue DS"?

But that's what it lists it as, right there. They even changed the text on the DS screen to show iQue DS.

And it's quite a bummer that now China's receiving Band Bros., with still no word on the US release, probably because they think it'll be too niche. :/ Maybe NoA should've bundled Band Bros. and Polarium together onto one card, and sold them like that.

Do you think the NA DS can play the iQue games? I don't mind picking the Nintendog up.

edit: No it won't work on the official Nintendo DS. :( But iQue DS can play regular DS games.
