We’re getting close to our Windows 10 media briefing next week and as promised – I’ve got the details for you on where to watch the live webcast.
The live webcast will start once the event starts at 9am (Pacific) and you’ll be able to watch it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows10story.
An on-demand version will be available shortly after the event at the same link. We’re pretty excited about this event and to be able to talk about what’s next for Windows 10.
You’ll hear directly from senior leaders from the Operating Systems Group including Terry Myerson, Joe Belfiore and Phil Spencer as well as our CEO Satya Nadella!

Where can I watch it:

As just announced today, the event will be live streamed here: http://news.microsoft.com/windows10story/

What will be shown:
Well outside new information on Windows 10 in general it will be interesting in how the new OS will be integrated into Xbox One and Phones/Tablets.
From a gaming point of view, we can expect streaming games from/to W10 devices from/to Xbox One (this is speculation by me) and the integration of DirectX12.
Phil Spencer will be talking and he already tweeted that the event will be interesting for Xbox One and PC Gamers.

Working in IT, I can't wait. I hate rolling out Windows 7 to people in 2015, because we are going to hit an XP situation with those in a few years.

Since this is gaming side, I also am looking forward to a new Xbox interface. The current one is just not great, and its a pain to find anything.

Pretty excited to see if they can actually pull off some sort of game-sharing, streaming solution between windows and Xbox. It would certainly allow me to play my Xbox games more since my TV is usually occupied by my GF's Bravo shows. If I could "remote play" on my PC in the other room - life would be good.

I'm so pissed with Windows 10, I've having problems with explorer crashing a lot - even after the fix.

But yes, I'm using a beta OS, etc etc etc, I know.

"Stream your Xbox One directly to your PC"

Idk, that seems like something they'd do. Maybe. I mean they are really pushing the fact that Windows 10 is also a big deal for gamers, but I don't really see it.

I totally expect GFWL 2.0 out of this.

they wouldnt have put those age of empires and other hd remasters and halo spartan assault on steam if they were just going to do gfwl 2

i expect this will be streaming games from xbone to ps4 maybe to counter sony tv etc ?

I'm ready for my dreams to be crushed.

Spartan Assault and Age of Empires HD were 2 years ago.

I really doubt they were going to delay those games for this. They aren't exactly the best launch titles for GFWL 2.

6 days before the conference? Man, the expectations better not get out of control and crash when the time comes. I'm not expecting anything exciting at all.

I'm really not expecting much game wise. Doesn't seem like a place to announce any new games or anything. Might see some cool platform stuff though.

How about a Windows 10 licence that's part of an xblive subscription? Actually I shouldn't be thinking of evil schemes for them.
Subscription-based OS.

Please don't.

They're cheap as it is. No reason to go the subscription route.

It's likely that they'll stick to requiring a Gold subscription if GFWL 2 is a thing though.

People are already expecting game announcements.
So....

I don't think it's unreasonable we'll see at least 1, probably cross-buy/play between XB1 and PC, game announced.

That seems like a backwards thing to do. It would be much better if you could stream PC games to your XBO. But since the majority of PC games are on Steam, I doubt MS would do this.

It'd be great to be able to have the one system accessible from multiple rooms/televisions. Steam steaming already works great for PC, can't see why PC streaming to Xbox would be a better option.

This for instance:
https://searchcode.com/?q=if(version,startswith("windows+9")

Lots of programs would simply crash because of this. (well they could've given it another internal name though)

A lot of code involves running in legacy mode if the windows OS starts with 9x to prevent it being run on Windows 95 or 98, so it was easier to call it 10 (or so I've heard)

Oh ok this actually makes sense. Figured it was named by the same geniuses who called their third console the Xbox One. I think windows is still technically 6.x so it would make little sense anyway

It's not 6.X anymore. But within reason.

Win10 will only report the kernel version as 10 if the application declares support for windows 10 in the application manifest. Otherwise it's going to be tricked into thinking it's still running on whatever windows version it tries to run.

Edit:

The picture makes it look like that all those devices, including Xbox One, will be using the same Windows 10 OS. In other words, PC gamers could play XBOne games and XBOne gamers PC games?

I know this is a delusional dream and will never ever happen, but that's what the marketing material implies.

That's actually the whole point of Win10 :P

It's going to be an OS that runs anywhere and adapts to the input/screen.

That's actually why they are calling it 10, because (at least internally) it's going to be a gargantous change.

For instance, the start menu/screen are now a metro v2 universal app, that's updatable from the store and no longer tied to the OS. And that app will transform into a menu for desktop users, a start screen for tablet users, the start screen for Windows Phone and the new xbone start screen. Mind you, they might still end up looking exactly the same as they do now, but it's a significant retooling of how it works to pull that off.

And basically many system apps are going to the same route, control panel, calculator, internet explorer, file explorer... Now they are all going to be decoupled from the OS, and updated from the store (and universal, so they can easily put those on ony platform they want).

Could be the Forza Hub or something

I presume they are converting Minecraft so it doesn't need Java and expect them to make it a big pillar of Windows 10 PC gaming to showcase the Xbox gaming app/mode and new features.

I didn't mean as the only method, I meant if you're paying for xblive gold, you'd get free Windows. But I don't think that's the solution, i don't know what is. Very interested to see how they bring things together.
