Fighting Games Weekly | Jan 19-25 | As Seen On WSHH

The communities organized tournaments on the side and Markman/Madcatz have been gracious enough to give them support for the past couple of years. Hopefully that continues because these games have no chance in the main lineup.

Hopefully. Just wanna play some SC5 and TTT2. Though, I hope Namco brings a T7 machine to the event.

Apparently this isn't the first he's stepped down according to my friends.

So basically this doesn't mean much to them.

It's the first time that he's stepping down without him saying it on his personal Twitter in a whiney manner like we're supposed to go and coddle him to make him do another event. This is coming from the other staff. Whether they will keep him from Apex in the future remains to be seen but at least he's "gone" from this event and can't ruin its potential.

Can you people not read? Never said his behavior was OK, just that its not criminal.

If it's sexual harassment...wouldn't you want the police involved? But Nah now that he isn't the TO everything will be hunky dory and the matter is ended?

Give me a break.

You should honestly just cut your losses and drop this, because you made yourself look plenty bad in your earlier comments.

Glad Alex stepped down, it's probably best for the community. I don't know him on any level, but I do know that I want to continue to see Apex be a huge, exciting, and likable event. After some of Chibo's comments (the thing about Evo 2013, and the thing about getting out of contract) I somewhat doubted it would go over that well. He was always the figurehead; I'm not sure how much stake he owns in the event (and company?) and what the legality would look like of it carrying on if he didn't want it to.

OK, just so we're clear! For the record, I don't think he should nor do I expect him to suffer any real repercussions for his actions at a-

oh

Almost guaranteed to be in Bally's conference rooms so bally's will be closer but Paris is in the same complex, so you never have to go outside.

So Paris or Bally's?

Never been to Vegas before but am going this year for Evo. What do you guys recommend?

Almost guaranteed to be in Bally's conference rooms so bally's will be closer but Paris is in the same complex, so you never have to go outside.
Baileys is way cheaper but Paris has better rooms.

Honestly, if you don't mind the walk or paying for a taxi, I'd just check out a room at Luxor or Excalibur and do the half hour walk.

As far as I know, a lot of the fancier places in Vegas have always had a resort fee. But I'm trying to figure out ifi t's cheaper to go through the Evo deal or if it's better if I just bundle it through expedia, lol.

I'm trying to figure out if walking from a cheaper hotel is worth me being out in that Vegas heat. Guess I'll make a decision once I see what the lineup looks like tonight.

Hopefully. Just wanna play some SC5 and TTT2. Though, I hope Namco brings a T7 machine to the event.

Hopefully Namco is involved this year because I would like to play T7 also.

I hope so. Would be a good start moving forward.

Wonderful - thanks, Shouta.

Yeah, neither I or the girlfriend would enjoy that too much. I figure Bally's should be fine. I only plan to be up there when I need to crash for the night.

I'll wait until my tax return to start booking stuff. Gonna try and look at prices tonight after work though. I have too much personal issues going on at the moment.

Did anyone go to Evo 2013 and book the hotel through their deal? I'm trying to figure out if you have to pay the resort fee through that or not.
I stayed at the Paris in 2013, booked with the Evo group rate and I'm fairly confident I didn't pay a resort fee. I might have had to kick someone in the shins to make that happen, though.

I'll be waiting until later tonight to book a room, and I generally book with the official group rate even if it's a it more expensive as a courtesy for the event... That and you really don't want to stay off-site unless you have to, as it's a giant pain in the ass.

I'm a fan of the Paris, if you have a decent enough food budget then there's some nice stuff there. But basically what Shouta said. You're in the same complex so all that matters is what's in your price range

Any they just announcing the Evo games or are they going to say which systems they're running as well?

The only game that'd have any issue is Mortal Kombat X, since it's not out.
However, since they'll have XBOs for Killer Instinct, I imagine it'd be that.

Killer Instinct, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, and Super Smash Bros Melee are exclusives.
They wouldn't get PS4s just for Guilty Gear Xrd, unless Sony's sponsoring.
They're gonna stick with 360 for Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and The King of Fighters XIII. PS3 for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.

Shouta, can I get Slayer of Combofiends and Wongs as my tag if I take a match off of Justin at APEX?
Don't hurt me ;_;

Well there's also having to choose between PS3 and PS4 version of Xrd. I'm guessing they'll go with PS3 since it'd be the most convenient tho.

Edit: On another note really hope I can go again this year. Last year was a blast. Best guilty gear demo trip ever.

I'd be shocked if ultra moved to ps4. Really don't expect it tbh as that would piss so many people off. Mortal Kombat X has me curious as I think nrs is only doing the ps4/x1 versions while ps3/360/pc is handed off to someone else.

Just went on a mini-rant on the Vergil thread about tutorials. Holy fuck, thank you Arc Sys, for pushing this shit and I hope more companies would expand on it. Xrd is a breath of fresh air for learning actual utility with in-game content, even though I'll always be ass at it.

If they move to ps4 they could play

Ultra
BB
MKx
Injustice
Xrd

Yup the Xrd tutorials are some of the best ever in a fighting game hands down.

PS4 would probably be a long term investment thing for the life of SF5

Unless they go full eSports and start running PC, lol.
KI was rumored to get a PC port. Netherrealm and Namco and Tecmo and Capcom are doing PC now. Who knows, lol.

The thing that I appreciate about Xrd's tutorials the most is that they also added a mission mode where you have to apply those mechanics in a situation that simulates a real match. That is the kind of progression that fighting game tutorials need to become staple single player content. I would love to see this transition into an early Soul Calibur-esque storymode, but instead of overcoming some silly gimmicks, you have to actually apply some legitimate basics to succeed..

This is why stuff like this should stop and be remedied quickly. People never post good things about the FGC, always bad things and then you have morons generalizing.

When it comes to news the only news is bad news.

Honestly the one that stood out the most to me from the few ones I checked out was the vs Zato one. They tell you to kill little eddie that's the mission. But then they say oh and alternative advanced way to beat this is to instant block 2S and instant air dash and hit Zato!

I think the only way USF4 is on PS4 is if SCEA adds support for PS3 sticks through either the the driver developed for Skullgirls or something else. Forcing everyone to move to a PS4 stick now would really irritate a lot of people. Hell, there will probably be complaints about the PS4 version just because it'll probably feel slightly different compared to the PS3 or X360 version.

Although you are starting to see events move to the new console (Winter Brawl is using the PS4 version of DoA5:LR, and it wouldn't surprise me if MKX was primarily on either the PS4 or XBone), I don't think you'll see a widespread transition until next year, when you start seeing games that are exclusive to this generation (like SF5 and Tekken 7). Or we can all move to PCs and encounter the joys of dealing with that
and bring back Melty Blood

kotaku always on top of the latest fgc news*

Well this gem is from the comments section, so its not all bad.

That is why finding out if Boyes is involved is key. They'd get the ps4 for all those games. Mainly ultra for that 500k. I would not even doubt that there may be a 'donation' to the EVO prize pool.

On Kachitagari tv, Nyanshi said that the Topanga event at Tokaigi (Feb 1st) will be bigger than the Madcatz event at TGS. Bonchan, Kazunoko, and Fuudo were all surprised because of how big Madcatz did their thing.

Any more details? Start time, a short description of what it is, etc.?

8PM UK time on Tuesdays.

Logan Sama, organiser of the old WSO weeklys in London, invites some of London's finest to Capcom UK HQ for first to 5 sets in USF4.

Ususally goes on for a few hours.

Console of choice hasn't crossed my mind until just now. I wasn't expecting the switch to PS4 until SF5 came out out because none of the other games really require a current gen console to play it on and the community still poverty status. Sony dropping a truckload of PS4s on EVO may jumpstart that switch sooner.

I also wonder if Sony putting $500K in Capcom Cup has any stipulations on console choice or if they don't care because I can't imagine that they would like the money that they've put up going towards events played on a competitor's system.

More burning questions to find out later.

Other fighting games do a better job at teaching/tutorials which don't get alot of attention.

Btw, Topanga could use a description. Topanga tv is a weekly show featuring Mago, Tokido, and Momochi. They go over the tournaments they will participate and have participated in overseas and in Japan, as well as the general news in SF. For long periods of the year, there is a student-teacher session involving one of the 3 topanga members taking a player under their wing and teaching them how to play SF. The show features rank matches (sometimes random char. matches) and ends with a 8 man online tournament featuring players around 4.5kpp like Poongko, Inco, etc...

I have a feeling they won't be able to have both Smash 4 and Melee, so one of them will have to go. With Nintendo most likely be sponsoring again and would want there new game to get the spotlight, giving Melee the boot. If this happens, the response to PM getting the boot from Apex will be noting compared to the response to that.

I feel like after the last two years there's no way Melee wouldn't be the main smash event

It doesn't matter how much Nintendo wants to moneyhat Sm4sh, I don't think the community would accept not having Melee at EVO.

Nintendo is sponsoring APEX, and Super Smash Bros Melee is the main game.
Project M would be an issue, but Super Smash Bros Melee is their game.

The Mad Catz TGS event is capped at 64 entrants and is one day single elim. A lot of matches didn't get shown because of the nature of how things had to be run. Topanga/Nyanshi helped run the logistics of the event so he is definitely on the ball with the Tokaigi assumptions.

I'm excited to be at Tokaigi :D
