Alien: Isolation passes 1 million units sold

Well deserved. I just started playing yesterday and it's been an amazing experience so far. Game is tense as hell.

I died so many times in the medical center. Alien is like it's rubber banded to me.

That part is meant to throw you in at the deep end, the Alien eases off afterwards. Use your equipment to distract him, makes the game 10 times easier!

Using Ellen Ripley, the Nostromo and its crew as pre-order bait for an Alien videogame.

Didn't all day 1 buyers get that anyway? I bought it 3 weeks after release and it came with the game.

Just finished it yesterday, easily one of my top few games of the year, maybe even my favorite, though hard to say since so many great games came out, especially in the last few months. I still haven't even played some of the ones I wanted to. Really hope we get to see them do another horror game, as I think with a bit of polishing and some more variety they could create something genius.

The DLC shenanigans combined with some negative reviews kept me away... but as I've been hearing more about the game, it sounds like I absolutely need to play it. At this point though I just don't see myself paying full price for a copy, especially one that does not include the Ellen Ripley mission.

The Ellen Ripley missions are so nothing. They're about 15 minutes each. The main campaign is where the real draw of the game is.

Fantastic news! Alien: Isolation was one of my favorite games of last year and a really brave move considering how un-AAA it is.

Congrats to the devs. Seems like many consider this game to be one of the best things to happen with the Alien universe, so hopefully the franchise can enjoy some longevity in gaming space.

Congrats for sure, I am surprised they haven't sold more. Great game. Would like to think with those numbers, they are fairly profitable.

Good result after Colonial Marines reducing the interest in the brand to close to zero. Really deserves more though. Its the closest thing to a AAA high tisk project as the industry has seen in years. Its also very good.

C'mon those of you chickening out - they've added Novice mode so everyone can get through it okay.

If there was any value in actual enjoyment vs a number, I'd say AI has a lot more happier consumers with their 1 million, than other titles.

Good job everyone that bought it.

Wondering if it being a horror game hurt its sales in any significant way. I really want to play it, but I can't because imma sissy.

By AAA standards those numbers don't sound good, but hopefully they kept the budget in check and these are good enough figures for a Dark Souls-esque niche (and I guess they would be far more cagey with numbers if it was that big a flop).

Survival horror with almost no combat (and what's there is almost entirely optional), a punishing save system (if still relatively forgiving by old-school genre standards), easy death, backtracking to forge a connection with the location it takes place in, very little handholding outside of map markers and (comparatively) massive periods of quiet time with very little happening unless you pretty much intentionally fuck up. I don't know what miracle got a game like this any sort of budget nowadays, but it's kind of beautiful that it managed to exist.

Awesome. I'm still only on Chapter 8, but the game just keeps getting better and better. I'm getting more confident, but the tension and atmosphere that it creates is just incredible.

Yeah it's a super slow burn on this game and I love it for that

The tension and atmosphere are insane

Really happy for CA.

This was a ballsy production, clearly a niche game despite the popular brand, and the developers maintained their vision from start to finish.

For a straight-up unforgiving (almost purely 'defensive') horror game, I think 1 million copies sold is a pretty damn good achievement. More importantly, it's a game that will be referenced & admired for many years to come.
No doubt it will be a 'cult classic'.

Hopefully Sega lets CA make another.

This game deserves 5x the numbers.

I don't know who I'm more disappointed in, my fellow "gamers" who can't recognize a quality game or review sites that well, can't do the same.

How many people out there really take game review web sites seriously? Do people really not know what they want that they have to have somebody tell them what they should like?

Hell fucking yes.

Now please make

Jurassic Park: Isolation

...the game I've never knew I wanted. Holy shit that would be awesome.

And congrats to CA! A:I was my personal GotY for 2014. I finally just beat it yesterday and what a ride. The DLC support has been awesome too. I'm hoping the last DLC let's us play as the alien. Really hope they are allowed to make a sequel.

That seems like really poor sales for, what, four months? And hasn't it consistently on sale for $25 since November?

Excellent news, hopefully this will mean SEGA will tell Creative Assembly to get hauling ass on the sequel.

This probably means Sega will hand the liscence back to Gearbox. ;p

I'd like to know how many they targeted. Over 5 platforms that's a little disappointing, but still a great number. I hope the light of sales burns for a long time.

After the whole A:CM thing im sure a Million is just a positive for them. They know there is an audience and such.

Great game, but hopefully their next one isn't such a buggy mess :(

I feel conflicted between my love for the game and the plethora of game-breaking glitches that should absolutely not exist.

It's a great number – I guess what this really depends on is how much Sega want it from it. We'd have to see inside their black box to know if this is a good result or a series-killing loss for them.

Meh 5.9 / 10 quality

Black Ops II? 9.5 / 10.

As in... basically IGNs scores for both of those games?

Care to elaborate upon what problems you had with the game?

Great game, but hopefully their next one isn't such a buggy mess :(

What is with these posts – I seriously didn't experience a single glitch or bug in this game, and the same goes for the many people I know who finished it. I read no reviews which criticized it for that either.

My favorite game in a long time, should be much much more, but as long as it's enough for them to have another go, i'm happy.

Seems like it'll have long legs though.

Whilst it's obvious they are happy with the sales I'm going to guess they're just as happy with the Alien name from a game point of view not being completely in the shitter anymore. Despite reviews, good or bad, on a lot of forums there's a lot of love for Alien Isolation and that's probably a muuuuuch better place for them to be in now from a reputation standpoint. Wasn't the Alien license one of Segas big pillars along with Sonic and their PC games (like Football Manager/Total War) ?

Good for them. This was my GOTY and they desire those numbers (Should have did more). Hopefully that will convince Sega to give us a sequel.

Same. I've played this on three different systems (gotta love cloud saves) and I've never encountered any issues.

For five platforms that seems pretty modest. Their other game, Rome 2, sold 1.1 million in around the same time only on one platform.

Ah, that's a good thing in my opinion. That shows the sort of sales Sega might expect from the team - though obviously more platforms should warrant more sales.

True... But Total War wasn't nearly irreparably damaged by a parade of awful films and games.

Surely that means Isolation did well for it's heritage though? If it matched a Total War game?

Number 1 thing I want from a sequel is I want the areas to be bigger. Not in the sense of size but less loading and sectionizing. It would be amazing to have the whole lobby and medic area as 1 area and the Alien could be anywhere. Having to be careful with the sound you make and such.

This would also allow them to improve the AI so it would go and do random things such as investigate a noise or something in another area.

Maybe let other survivors roam the next station and such and by doing so they could either be friendly and give the players supplies or help them with an objective OR be hostile and switch the gameplay dynamic.

Any body else have ideas or suggestions for the next sequel? I don't know if there was a thread for this or not lol.

I played it at release for the PC, and other than the 30fps cutscenes, it ran like a dream with no issues throughout the campaign and the DLC.
