Why is that one included as an insult/death threat?

The context of the status says the girl was agreeing with her.

It's not immediately obvious. I'm still not even sure I've parsed it correctly, myself.

This is fucking disgusting. I don't care if you agree with her or not (Hell, I've never seen any of her content myself), anyone who says stuff like this or defends this shit is a fucking disgusting human being and should be ashamed of themselves
Exactly, this is the biggest issue. Like wow, she's saying something you don't agree with... so she should die? It's such a ridiculous response to one person's voice.

I can't even imagine what must go through someone's mind when they are typing insults like that.

It's pretty pathetic. Got put in some party chat couple days ago where some probably 13 year olds were throwing profanity at each for 5 minutes straight (probably more but I left after that) arguing over who was the 'Kid' and who was going to murder the other.

I feel like this is a dangerous attitude as well though. Sick, disgusting behavior like this is also a facet of humanity. You can't attempt to solve problems if you pretend the problems don't exist. This is a societal issue, which mean it can be changed with a lot of time and effort

eh you are reading too much into my comment. Just meant they do not measure up to what I expect out of men and the human race. Obviously they are terrible people and I am fully aware how common their behavior is. I am a litigation attorney so I deal with some special characters on a daily basis.

Yes, GamerGate and its offshoot harassment campaigns still exist. This crap still happens. Continuously. I'm glad that more of the bullied persons are putting up examples of what they've been dealing with since it's incredibly hard to relate to anything this extreme.

It's funny because by being awful mysogynistic people, they show us the value of work like hers. If it really wasn't an issue, you would be getting less of shit like this, and at the very least major opposition groups would be saying this is unacceptable and chew out the assholes who did this, rather than try to divert or even defend these people.
She's openly talked about how many opportunities this has opened up for her and how much more influential she can be because of what these people have done to her. For the betterment of, well, humanity, industry people would prefer to avoid getting caught up in or accused of this kind of behaviour. It's awesome poetic justice but the road there is sour.
Can we start tweeting her positive things? Someone come up with a catchy hashtag.
You can try but you'll get brigaded ("red pilled") instantly. I would advice not attempting to, for your own safety. This is a 100% serious reply to your post.

Maybe she used a bot to trawl through all of the tweets she received using key word insults? I don't quite understand that tweet either but I think what that person is saying is that people who insult her in that way are only making examples of themselves to be used to further feminism...

The good thing about these tweets is that they are so generic and stupid that it must be easy for her to just laugh them off.

Does she even use Twitter anymore at that handle? I have like 50 followers so I have no clue what happens when you're just bombarded with mentions like that day and night. Do you just set up filters and ignore everything with the words "bitch" "cunt" "rape" "die", etc? Can Twitter even do that?

There's another one with the clan tag LLDN - seems to be a professional gaming team. Wonder if their representation or sponsors enjoy their very public views?

I'm pretty sure she's(Amber Lynette) saying that all her(Anita's) detractors can say/do is say "cunt slut die" all day because they can't really build any counterarguments hence "because they have nothing to stand on".

It somewhat funny and sad because it has all just become a circle that feeds off itself.

People threaten, and berate her on the internet.

She posts about it bringing in more money and eyes to her cause.

Which in turn causes more threats to happen.

Which She posts about it bringing in more money and eyes to her cause.

It is mildly interesting to read the female gamer hate tweets.

Yup, in reply to "here are some nasty things they said", the comment is "it's all cunt/slut/die because they don't have a real argument to stand on. They're just thickening our skin", showing support. You do have to read it closely though, it's a bit tough.

Tons of "call the police" level comments in there, sheesh.

I don't use twitter, but can't you just disable comments/replies?
I mean I know her point is to bring awareness of this kind of thing, but I would bet most of these are from trolls and kids.

I figured that kind of thing would happen but it really gets me down that she is getting bombarded with these negative posts. She's a real trooper.

Please expand on this.

Jesus, she has incredibly thick skin. Fuck those pieces of shit and anyone who defends shit like that.

Context is important, but so is the message.

Don't get it twisted; I'm not trying to defend anybody who would post such terrible things. I'd just like to see people raise above it than fall to their standard.

Wow at all the potty mouthed hypocrites in this thread.

look out everyone, saying something mean about people trying to drown someone in death threats/rape threats/general bile is hypocritical

gotta hug the hate out of them

Sad thing is just trying to tweet something positive very likely will get you jumped on by the pack, it's happened before

Anita: "It's hurtful how women are depicted in media"

Internet: "Fucking die, cunt"

...

I feel like I'm missing something in this cause-and-effect equation.

Man, sometimes I'm just not sure if I actually support annonymity on the internet because of fucking people like this.

...these aren't anonymous though. I mean a lot of these presumably link to their public Twitter persona, and likely their facebook accounts.

All my nitpickings about her videos aside, she's clearly the kind of woman we need standing at the forefront of these issues. Good on her for not buckling under the pressure and enormity of the hatred. It really does take a special kind of person to handle this as well as she has.

I'm not a big user either, but AFAIK the only way to stop randoms from tweeting at you is to make your account private. Which is obviously not something Sarkeesian would want to do.

She does have comments disabled on youtube (which amusingly causes a lot of bitter complaints), but I don't think there's something analogous for Twtiter.

The best you can do is use one of those widely distributed block lists, but of course the person has to have been flagged previously for that to be effective. It would be interesting if there were some sort of program you could run to scan your mentions for certain key words and block, and run it automatically on a particular interval, so you would miss a lot of stuff like that.

Sounds like another "both sides are equally bad" argument.

Honestly, it's hilarious because I haven't seen anybody suggest that anything bad should happen to the people saying these things beyond the type of punishment they'd get for saying this shit in real life. Nobody here has suggested they should die or suffer horribly for this. Honestly, most of these are probably really misguided young kids who quite likely have had bad homes (not necessarily financially I should add). What they really need is guidance and probably in many cases therapy. And the vast majority of these people would probably not commit major crimes like rape or murder, they're just venting misplaced aggression and are afraid. There are probably exceptions though

The funny part is that the more she posts these on her Twitter, the more people will Tweet at her more and more outlandish comments in an attempt to gain attention.

It's not ironic that her view on Tropes and Women in Video games is strongly reinforced by her real life situations, but I think a lot of people, including myself, hate that she garners further attention by bringing attention to herself, and her own situation.

Ban me if you want, but I am of the opinion that you should not put out negativity in a public forum. If every celebrity published their hatemail and death threats on a weekly basis, I'm sure it would match or exceed the tweets she receives.

She CHOOSES to make this public, and it on exacerbates the situation, but again, it's beneficial to her cause, because she is using it as ammunition.

It's simply a vicious cycle, and makes me sick to my stomach. If she were to simply go on publishing her video series, and ignore the haters, this situation would have never arose.

I'm not saying she brings it on herself, I'm saying she is allowing herself to be a larger victim and target than she needs to be.

It's the Lizard Squad phenom. They'd be harmless without attention.

The problem with most of these people is they think Anita and others are trying to censor developers and get things taken off the shelves. They don't understand that it's simply a movement to get better representation and hopefully reduce the amount of tropes that negatively depict women in gaming. They feel like it's an attack against their hobby in which a group of people are trying to take away what they enjoy, hence the backlash. These people need to be educated.

I've seen people on other sites try to justify this by defending each individual comment. It's just gross and awful and stuff like this really makes me feel bad for participating in gaming culture.

It's the same loop when these threads pop up. You have to talk about it to bring attention to it. We have to shun this kind of stuff from happening and make twitter do something about these attacks. Your method will only make it worst

I want what you're smoking

Either the bad spelling, or the limitations of twitter, but 90% of these tweets look like they come from 12 -14 year olds.

What the fuck is wrong with these people? Even if it is the internet you got no excuse for acting like a irreprehensible monster.

The good thing about these tweets is that they are so generic and stupid that it must be easy for her to just laugh them off.

I highly doubt it. She is probably greatly affected by this, that is why she is sharing this information.

I'm an old fart that grew up from un-moderated forums in the early days of the internet, so to me nothing that I ever read on the internet faces me. But I think that for young people these days twitter is like a serious means of communication that needs to be heavily moderated.

That was one of the milder tweets by far though, and even then, I never denounced the person as a whole. I never wished ill for these people, as I said in my last post, they just need help. And there's a difference in denouncing someone for harassment, and denouncing someone for sharing their thoughts in a more civil manner

It's difficult to just "ignore the haters" when they publicly post your home address and threaten to murder you. It's enlightening to know where you stand on this though.

Please expand on this.

They won't return to explain

"It's not that bad it's just random trolls she should lighten up."
"Men get threats too just look at any male youtuber."
"She's a celebrity so of course she gets all kinds of attention including unwanted she probably profits off it."
"It's not legitimate threats."
"Both sides both sides both sides."

So pick one.
