Media Create Sales: Week 4, 2015 (Jan 19 - Jan 25)

Wii U software completely dwarf ps4 software but for whatever reason the system continues to sell very poorly in comparison to the ps4. Technically, this is a tie in Japan, where one company wins on the hardware front while the other company wins on the software front. At least that's my opinion of course.

PS4 software sales will start to kill Wii U software soon.

One has had its tent pole games the other...

Someone explain those PS4 system sales to me, when only one PS4 game is in the chart (near the bottom). Wii U has multiple charting games but lower system sales. Don't get it.

The Wii U has a toxic reputation and Japan is one of the rare ( or only ) places where after the big games like MK and Smash hit, the Wii U 2014 LTD is lower than 2013.

Until I arrange things at my new PC no proper formatting until tomorrow. In theory I'll be able to post the new thread in less than a minute after numbers come out.

Ps4 has a better future software wise, maybe some people are buying the console based on that.

Used market is quite large in Japan so you may want to factor that in.
Also there may be list of small amount of software sales below 30th place, but we don't know about that really.

That just reminds me of the people who bought a PS3 for Versus 13 and The Last Guardian.

the same people are buying the ps4 for the same games now, they still won't come out and will then be teased for the ps5, where they will be "delayed" further

it's all part of sony's brilliant plan to sell systems without actual games

People who want to play WiiU games already owned a WiiU.

PS3 customers start migrating to PS4. Cross-platform titles like MGSV, DQ Heroes and Persona 5 will make the process smoother. Flood gate will open when FFXV drops.

The MGS demo opening week was 100k back before the PS4 had reached 500k ltd, so I definitely think a 100k + opening week for Zestiria would have been possible if it launched on PS4 too.

Sure, but the PS3 version would've been a bit lower too if people decided to buy it on PS4 instead. A PS4 re-release a few months later is probably the more lucrative option in this case to get people to double dip.

But then you have to consider people who bought the PS3 version buying the PS4 version instead and I don't think 100k+ more people would buy the game.

Totally forgot about the lost PS3 sales >.<

I'm betting on Bamco doing a PS4 version, probably later this year or early next year.

What?

Second worst Kirby opening week in the franchise. Kirby's Star Stacker on gameboy is the only one that opened with less.

Oh, I should have said, as far as I remember, it's not too bad relative to other Wii U W1 sales. Relative to Kirby, it did terribly, but then I expect as much since IIRC DK for example also did terribly in week one. And some other W1 sales for Wii U games:

10./00. [WIU] Game & Wario <ETC> (Nintendo) {2013.03.28} (¥4.935) - 22.491 / NEW
01./00. [WIU] Pikmin 3 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.07.13} (¥5.985) - 92.720 / NEW <48,45%>
07./00. [WIU] The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD <ADV> (Nintendo) {2013.09.26} (¥5.985) - 30.264 / NEW
02./00. [WIU] Super Mario 3D World <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.11.21} (¥5.985) - 99.588 / NEW <57,17%>
02./00. [WIU] Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.02.13} (¥5.985) - 35.717 / NEW <35,28%>
07./00. [WIU] Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker <ADV> (Nintendo) {2014.11.13} (¥3.996) - 28.025 / NEW

Pretty rough for secondary franchises. Kirby's solid relative to that.

Wonder how many times wiiu will break 15k this year.
3ds is also down but it's about to enter it's 5th year.

Isn't 3DS down just a few thousands this week compared to Week 4, 2014 though?
Even for Famitsu this time!

what are people buying with their PS4?

from what i'm seeing, the PS4 sells pretty good, but no software is making the excuse for that.

am i missing something? Digital sales? what?

Wii U has nearly double the install base & it has more software, it makes perfect sense.

Legend of Legacy did pretty well for the first week. Now let's see if it drops off the map in the coming weeks. If it manages to break 100k, it'll be a pretty solid success for the publisher. The director seems like a really passionate young guy, so I'm rooting for him to find success.

Aha. Not even close.

for 100th time

Are you saying that ToZ wouldn't sell 60k or 160k on PS4?

You can buy and borrow used games on consoles. Combine that, digital games, and buying the console prior to the upcoming games and it makes sense.

Famitsu first week comparison:

Xillia: 512,544
Destiny 2: 498,142
Rebirth: 372,767
Abyss: 368,316
Xillia 2: 331,533
Zestiria: 316,824
Vesperia (PS3): 227,506
Graces f: 219,921
Graces (Wii): 143,309
Vesperia (360): 101,272

Damn!!

Now I'm really worried about the western sales numbers :(

Namco should have delayed the game for few months and released it as a cross gen title like Persona 5 to assure a better sales number worldwide.

Are you saying that ToZ wouldn't sell 60k or 160k on PS4?

It's been said again and again and even a few times on this topic, it's not because it'd sell 60 or 160k copies on PS4 that it means 60-160k additional copies, most of the sales would just come from splitting the userbase across platforms.

You don't think it can do 150k on PS4?

That's not the point. Maybe it could. But if it did, PS3 sales would be lower.

It makes more sense for Bamco to release the PS3 version now to get all the sales they still can from the "dying" console, and then re-release it on PS4 in fall to get the double-dippers.

The situation in Japan is different than in the west where PS3/360 software sales are lower than PS4/XB1.
