Straight from the flash file:

That looks rather uninspiring.

This new title probably won't be AAA.

TLH was this though...

Also...i'm really REALLY hoping SE doesn't disappoint...but its hard to come to another conclusion regardless cause of how they have been...

I'm holding onto the PS4 LOGO, but even that isn't safe

This. Its the only thing thats getting me excited for this announcement since it means its not some iOS/browser game.

But it is safe and will for sure be something everyone wants

This company shits on everything I love and care about. No matter how little faith I have in them, I'm sure they'll find a way to disappoint me.

Still seething about the FF VII troll reveal

Lol Gaf never learns. We all want this to be a AAA console jrpg and that's exactly why it won't be that. This is going to be some dumb f2p psn game. I have absolutely 0 hype for whatever garbage this game is gonna be.

Yea, that logo art a few posts up doesn't really scream "AAA" to me.

Expectations could not be lower for me at this point :/

Square Enix has failed me so many times in recent years (yes I was in the crowd during psx and screamed during ffVII reveal). I'm not sure what to make of this, saying I'm not excited is lie but I don't have high hopes for whatever this is. Sorry Square you lost me a long time ago :/

Are you really that surprised? This isn't the end.

I am surprised not by the fact that SE announced a PS4 exclusive game. But by all those last announcements... Capcom new releases, this SE game, and now apparently even the Spotify app.

And thats not even a happy surprise! I usually buy my games on Xbox. =/

These companies seem to be throwing everything at the PS4 in order to revive the Japanese gaming market.

Maybe.

Heh, I guess you'll have to adjust. I'm ready for Microsoft to counter anyways.

You can blame Xbox's poor performance in Japan and MS's anti-cross play policies then, at least for the Capcom stuff.

Hmm, they feeling guilty about filling those sweaty palms with MS money for TR?

Perhaps not so guilty as they feel regretful? What with seeing PS4 continue storming ahead.

And this will continue as the gap increases. People have been downplaying it's effect but I think we'll start seeing it more and more as we move into the second and third year. PS4 will be the priority whenever possible.

If Japanese games are your thing, avoid the X1 because that thing isn't going to get any better support wise. KH3 and FFXV are coming, as are other big titles like MGSV but outside of that I think it'll be very slim pickings.

Well....FF10 HD is exclusive to PS4 on next gen(until they bring it to PC sometime later..)

The Xbox One acquisitions like KH3 and FF15 just seem like a consequence of them having to maximize their player base for projects that are going to cost a lot to make rather than any real outreach to Xbone

Maybe yeah. But I still can't see it as a enough reason to not release a game for the XB1, so they could still get a a share in the other markets aswell.

Maybe they're gonna do something. New gaming announcements is always a good anyway.

And yeah! I agree... mainly for the policies. I mean, that Xbox cannot take the Japan market is something that I believe its not even at their hands anymore; but those stupid policies (such as the parity clause, that besides having nothing to do with those cases is still pretty stupid) really need to change.

Maybe the potential sales from the X1 aren't enough to make it worthwhile for them, especially if they're not big budget well known titles like FF. The X1 is doing even worse than the 360 in Japan for one. It's doing awful in Europe, getting beat (seemingly easily) in the UK) and barely keeping up in NA.

I'm beginning to wonder if the XBO version will even sell that much in the US. I guess Type-0 might give us an indication of the sales distribution between the two platforms.

Those images look straight from a cheap mobile game, they even used the same stalactites in the last 2 images, good sign.

This is exactly what I thought. Looks just like a mobile freemium game. I dont care that is says PS4 at the bottom. The announcement will disappoint, ia guarantee it.

Don't you DARE get my hopes up for that.

You. I like you.

It doesnt have to have a huge budget. Even PS3 level graphics would be a godsend.
It has to happen.

I can't get over the fact that the Fire Emblem games don't even look better than FFT on the PS1.

First you'd have to:
- wake Yuji Hori up from his cryotube & actually get him half-way involved in a video game again.

Next you'd have to:
-trick Masato Kato into believing his work will finally be appreciated.

After that, you'd have to:
-find whatever random Hawaiian surf shop Sakaguchi is hanging out at & convince him to dedicate a couple of years to a new AAA game. Think how many gnarly waves he'd have to sacrifice!

Finally, and most importantly, you'd have to:
-convince S-E corporate to actually give a shit again.

Your mission has been set before you.
Good luck.

Easy, give me two weeks and I will come back with good news. But seriously give Sakaguchi the money to make the game and I'm pretty sure he will quit surfing for a couple of years to accomplish this task. And what Fraxin said:

Chrono Cross didn't have Yuji Horii on board though.

Yes, bringing the entire dream team to make another game won't happen. But it doesn't have to be this way, one of them will be enough in my opinion. Just bring Yasunori Mitsuda back to make the music with Sakaguchi as director and I will be satisfied.

- Probably a little bit of both. For some reason they probably didn't think the blowback would be as great as it was because of that deal.

But seriously, I'm not sure what MS can pull off at this point. It would be have to hell of a moneyhat to prevent a PS4 version of any Japanese AAA game.

Well, there is history of MS trying to do it with those early 360 jrpgs with SE and even with Vesperia. They could try to do it again, but from everything we know financially, those games were not big "wins" for them.

Sakaguchi is too busy forming a team that will focus solely on making Jrpgs for the PlayStation. This team, will of course, also include Uematsu and Amano, and will be first party.

I don't see him doing Chrono Break anytime soon.

Wasn't MS able to secure those games for the 360 because:

1. The PS3 was doing terribly WW, while the 360 had pretty strong NA sales, which Japanese devs wanted to chase.

2. The X360 wasn't doing as terrible as the X1 in Japan.

We already know Sony is more synonymous with Japanese audience. If you have an anime character in your icon on GAF, its about 50 percent more likely you game on Playstation than on Xbox in most cases.

Maybe Project Z is the name they internally gave to the project of the two poorly paid programming students that have developed the amazing FFVII PS4 port. They surely had a great sense of humor and the Z stands for Zero hope or Zero fun or Zero money.

At least I hope Hashimoto releases a video or something laughing at people.

Are you really that surprised? This isn't the end.
I seem to recall you saying "This is won't be the last time" about the SFV exclusivity. Were you, perhaps, referring to this or something else?

Or perhaps you could just see that far ahead. :3

MS secured those games because they paid for exclusivity. That's all. The deals were done regardless of PS3's sales, they wanted to capture the Japanese market through money and at the time, PS3 wasn't in the equation considering it came out a year later, but Japan didn't bite. And it was considered a large failure with a majority of those games going to PS3 anyway.

3. The money was good for SE
4. MS really wanted to break into the Japanese market and getting some jrpgs would help bring some of that gamer-type over to the 360 from the PS family.

they are all valid reason really.

I'll only allow it if Matsuno makes it with Sakimoto doing the score.

LOL

Also are you just kidding or is there some truth on the bolded one?

Well yea, of course they paid money but I'm saying that those two other factors also helped things move along. I mean, if it was just money, why not just do it again?

Heck, I think the reason that the best they could get was TR (and timed, not even fully exclusive) was because that's the only one that bit on the bait. They probably went around and no one wanted to make their games exclusive to the X1, or maybe not for a reasonable price (or one MS was willing to pay). SE being the shortsighted company it is probably thought it a good idea.

I mean, compare the TR deal to something like SFV, which Sony specificially secured exclusive, forever (and even put it on PC at the same time, unlike TR).

Vesperia was such a miscalculation on Bamco's part. I think the JP re-release on the PS3 outsold the NA+JP release on the 360.

loool Sakaguchi will get over his hate toward Sony to make this game. Mark my words :)
