Quick question...

How alien would Persona 5 be, and how playable would it be if you've never been exposed to a Persona game before?

Persona games are all pretty much stand alone. Especially since Persona 3. I think Persona 1 and 2 were more connected, and 2 was actually a set of two games (innocent sin, and eternal punishment)

You would probably miss a few small references, but all the main games on the series are self contained, so 5 is a good way to get into the series.

Would love for it to do amazingly well and sell millions.

Consider that P4G, an upgraded port of a PS2 game that's exclusive to the Vita, sold 700k at last check (December 2013). Two million isn't unreasonable for a completely new entry that's releasing on the PS3/4. If anything i'd say that it's expected.

If Dante can be in Nocturne I'm sure some of the MGS:V cast could wind up in a Persona game, considering
they're already demons.

Now you're going to make me dream all day about Raiden making a cameo with the "RULES OF NATURE" theme.

You all can't talk something like this without bringing up the seal of awesomeness itself

There can be that many people willing to shell out 60$ for a demo in 2015 right ?

Don't forget, there's a lot of people like me who've been wanting to play type-0 for the longest time. The demo for FFXV is the icing on the cake. The sad thing is that it's been seen as the addendum to the demo.

What makes you say that?

That's what they usually do. Look at SMTIV, Srange Journey and Devil Survivor Overclocked

I would mark the hell out if either Yu, older Nanako or Yukiko made a cameo in P5.

I so want to see an older Nanako.

To be fair, there's a lot of people like me who've been wanting to play type-0 for the longest time. The demo for FFXV is the icing on the cake.

I also eagerly want to play Type-0, it's just that I don't think that the general PS4/XB1 userbase will be thrilled to play a PSP game, look no further than Gaf to see how much graphics matter to a lot of people.

I want to be excited about this, but for the life of me, I can't understand a thing about Persona. :(

What is the franchise comparable to?

The gameplay of P3 and 4 is one part dating sim (although "social/friendship sim is more accurate here) and one part standard RPG (which itself has a monster collecting side to it).

Is it me or Soejima's art is starting to look like Gainax's?
Those faces during the all-out-attack looks straight out of TTGL.

I really like it, but in the same time i'm hoping we'll get a Kaneko game with the same graphic fidelity.

hmm a lot of people have compare to pokemon... i'm curious! :P

The comparision to Pokemon is due to the various Personas that you can collect and use in combat. In P3 and 4, your other party members use only one Persona, which essentially has them growing with a standard level up system (gaining various abilities at various levels). But the protagonist is capable of using over 100 different types of Personas. In the case of 3 and 4, you have a chance of picking up a new persona if you meet certain conditions in battle. The persona you have equipped will determine all of your stats and abilities except for your HP and SP. The personas each level up an gain new moves individually, just like your party members do.

In addition, you can fuse two or more Personas together to make a new persona, which is usually more powerful and has inherited abilities from the seed persona, along with learning the abilities that it learns on it's own.

This all also ties into the life sim aspect of the game. Each Persona is part of a family named after one of the Arcanas of Tarot Cards (such as Empress, Magician, Star, and Devil). And the same holds true with the various people you can make friends or get into a relationship with (Your sports club friend might be Chariot, while the lonely little girl in the park could be Hanged Man). As you meet with and form bonds with these people, your ranks in these Arcana's increase. And as those ranks increase, you get an exp boost in the corresponding Persona family. So if you know that you've been hanging out with that Sports Club friend a lot, you could take advantage of that by fusing more Chariot Personas so you can enjoy the level boost that they'd get from your bond.

This Atlus video showing off fusion in Persona 4 should help to paint a better picture.

The gameplay basically becomes a balancing act of hanging out with your friends to get significant strength gains (and flesh out their story along the way), and then going into the dungeons to progress with the plot and get stronger through there.

Granted, this is P3 and 4. There's always the chance that things may get changed up in P5 to an extent, so we'll have to see.

Major difference in this game: you don't keep a Persona the entire game. There is no "I started with Pikachu and he stayed with me the entire journey." In this game, you sacrifice your "Pokemon" to make better ones.

I'm really curious if the game is already in its beta state.

Hashino wasn't completely clear on this issue.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new. How’s development coming along?

Hashino: Things are really coming along and we’re starting to hit our quality benchmarks in terms of what goes into the game, so at this stage, we’re hard at work building the game and fleshing it out. We’re just as eager to bring this game out finally so they can enjoy what all we’ve been working on and day by day, we’re getting closer to the finish line. It’s just going to be a little while longer now before it’s here.

"Fleshing it out" sounds more like the beta stage, but it could be anywhere.
I am kinda optimistic and think it will be released it 6 or 7 months, so in August or September.

Not totally true. I mean yeah you fuse your "pokemon" to make better ones yes but if you wanted too, you could just use your Izanagi for most of the game if you wanted to. It would be kind of difficult but possible.

Also there's no pretense of caring about your Personas or them being your companions -- if a Persona/demon doesn't have the right skills, weaknesses or stats fucking get rid of it.

It's not that hard to do assuming your playing Golden. You got spell cards and stat boosts.
