Persona 5 New Trailer

Please.

In the beginning of the trailer two men in suits look to be looking for someone. Presumably the P5MC, those two guys don't look like your average security guard or police men. They look like guys that would work for a shady organization or something and they would be working for the Kirijo group as they are a large organization that seem to be involved in a great deal of affairs.

From what we know the P5 cast is seeking out their own version of justice and they would be fighting against societal norms.

It wouldn't be that far fetched that the Kirijo group is doing something shady and that Mitsuru has no clue about it. But my theory is half assed and I'm being fueled by hype.

Kei Nanjo making an appearance would be great too as he is trying to fix the Nanjo Group's wrong doings.
To that point, we still don't know the identities of everyone in the shadow operatives.
In fact (P4AU SPOILERS )
most of the main characters from P3 and P4 aren't even full time members of the shadow operatives and therefore weren't given numbers.
I wouldn't put it past the shadow operatives to actually make an appearance in this game.

There is no way P5 won't be the highest selling mega ten game. In addition, it will also be the highest selling JRPG of this year (sorry but I don't believe in ffxv actually coming out this year)

True. P4AU SPOILERS
It was only Mitsuru and the two robots, Aigis and Labrys right?

Kinda crazy lore question incoming: I know that it's generally accepted that the Persona games are in their own timeline starting from SMT: If... But is there anything that seperates P3 and P4 lore-wise from P1 and P2, considering the shift from demons as enemies to shadows? It feels kinda weird that both versions exist within the same universe: One in which demons are exclusively used as Personas and one in which demons are Personas and actual entities roaming the world.

Did the experiments of the Kirijo Group start the whole shadow business? And if so, what happened to regular demons in that universe? Why are they no longer an active faction that needs to be dealth with? And if we're fighting demons again in P5, would that place P5 long before P3 (Probably not, since smartphones were in that first trailer)? Or would it therefore be in that other P1/P2 universe?

She was terrible. Most of redesigns in SMTIV felt like they were trying to be too grotesque and crazy but they just came off as bad.

I didn't think any of them were bad*, but they seemed ill fitting for Shin Megami Tensei, where the demon designs are incredibly fitting and faithful to their origins whereas the new designs felt more like manga-ish, cool, scary monsters.

Except Lucifer. Lucifer was terribad.

My pet theory is that the demons in Persona 1 and 2 were products of the reality warping shenanigans going on, and not actual SMT style demons. I believe it's been stated by the developers that the entire Persona series is in the same canon.

Persona 5 might throw a wrench into that, though.

I don't think so haha. The protagonist is stealing from a fancy place. In the shot with all the people, I believe the machines there are slot machines. So maybe a casino or a place that has one. The guys in suits are probably bouncers. They might be on high alert, looking for the protagonist.

I think people need to stop thinking that P5 will have any relation to prior persona games.

It's fun to speculate, it's just a fun theory I came up with because the Nanjo/Kirijo group have a history of fucking shit up.

It would be nice for Mitsuru to come back as a high level exec, Naoto as a detective or even Kei Nanjo helping out the cast.

ok all this Persona hype makes me want to start this franchise....

So a small off-topic question

Can i play the older Persona Games?? Or do i need the Sony Handhelds :(

Damn, this thread keep on popping up teasing me. I need to get another PS2 so I can beat these games already.

PS2... P3 and P4 might be viable options if you can find copies
PS3... All games except the first Persona and the first Persona 2 game are available
PS4... No options as of now.

PS Vita does have everything available

In Persona 2 Eternal Punishment for the PSP there is a special scenario that explains sort of why the demons no longer show up.

Some guy is doing a fan translation for the game and it's going to be interesting to find out what happens in that scenario.

All the games take place in the same universe btw
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment being an exception because of what happens at the end of Innocent Sin.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin came out on the PSX, but that version was never localized. Only the PSP rerelease is available in English, so if you want to go back to those you would need a PSP/Vita. Otherwise your totally fine. But I'm not sure if Persona 1 for the PSX is available on PSN. The PSP version of P1 is available, however.

I suggest just checking Wikipedia or the SMT Wiki, these games have frequent rereleases that add different things.

Oh, cool! I'm playing through P2:IS right now so hopefully his translation will coincide with my playthrough of EP. Though I have the English PSX version already so I'd likely just read up on that scenario.

Do you have a link to that project so I can check up on it from time to time?

You need a PSP/Vita/PSTV in order to play Persona 2 (using the PSN versions), as only one of them was originally translated. Persona 3:FES and 4 can be played using a PS2 or PS3, but P4:Golden needs a Vita or PSTV.

And maybe Kikuno Saikawa. I'm not sure if she's an actual member or not. The thing is Aigis is #5, and that was before Labryus joined. So assuming Akihiko is/was #2 - #4 were are still missing at least 2 full time shadow operatives members.

You can play every Persona game. The only exception is Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable. P3 FES(PS2) is probably the best version of P3 so no loss there, but P4G(Vita) is such a major improvement on P4 that you should look into it if you can. Playstation TV is probably the best solution for you if you want to have the definitive experience of P4.

Also, you might want to pass on P1/P2. They're quite old and haven't aged well. The stories aren't linked apart from a few references to P2 in P3 so you can pretty much skip them without losing anything.

These guys are doing the fan translation. There is literally zero to no information on the scenario. The translators have teased the scenario by saying cryptic shit goes down so I'm really looking forward to it.

P2 hasn't aged that badly. The dungeon design is a bit unforgiving and the game is balls to the wall hard but battle system, menus etc are all straightforward stuff.

Lets talk about something important guys. Music
What genres will appear in P5?

Well, since the game seems to be set (at least in part) in Tokyo, it should be modern, groove-oriented, and slick. The trailer set a good tone for that. I'm really hoping for some stuff you can listen to without getting tired of them, as that was a problem for me with P3's music. P3 had some songs which start off sounding great the first few times, but get really grating after the 50th time.

It also has the slowest battles ever even with animations turned off.

That's a bigger mark against it than anything else. It's even more offensive when compared with how laughably high the random encounter rate is. I also don't think it's that hard.

I think people need to stop thinking that P5 will have any relation to prior persona games.

You know this morning I would've thought the same but now I'am starting to think this may not be true. A lot has changed since persona 4 and Atlus has done a lot of work linking P3 and P4's canon. So it may not be too far fetched to think they won't due the same. Obviously P5 will be self contained but the possibility of there being a lot of links to past games isn't as slim as we might think.

Thanks for the infos guys, will definetely check this series out and maybe try to borrow a vita...I want to play the perfect version of Persona 4

Well P5 MC does have a #2 pin on his lapel...

If you aren't able to, vanilla p4 is fine. There are a bunch of people in the persona community thread who skipped golden because they played the original

but as mentioned, playstation tv is also an option if you really want to go for persona 4 golden.

p4 is completely fine.

golden's changes arent significant. Just made an already relatively easy game even easier. Well they did shoehorn in a new character too i guess.

Isn't that the school emblem?

Nope.

Golden adds months to the content, a lot of new events, costumes, new music, gameplay changes, a new epilogue, a bunch of extra content unrelated to the game, two new social links, online functionality, and a lot more.

It is a significant amount more. It is recommended, but not required.
