Yeah yeah GamerGate, yeah yeah everyone lucky enough to not be a victim of this is tired of hearing about it myself included, whatever. Theres a moratorium on general discussion, which I understand, and maybe this crosses that line, but goddamn this quote got to me:

I have a folder on my hard drive with letters from dozens and dozens of women who've abandoned their dream of becoming game developers due to Gamergate, some as young as 12.

That is the real cost of this series of events, something I think is easy to lose sight of behind all of the noise. This isn't about name calling, its about women being driven out, in a very literal way

That's what's perhaps weighing on me the most. I do some work with kids, a not insignificant part of which is trying to help young girls discover their enthusiasm for working with technology. Am I just just setting them up to go through this meat grinder? What kind of environment are the kids of tomorrow going to enter into?

Exactly I was one of those guys that thought it was simple internet trolling, an that the woman were over exaggerating for attention but lord how wrong was I, after seeing some of the vitriol that a lot of them had to put up with, death threats etc, I couldn't believe how far some ppl were taking it, an now even reading this, just makes the whole thing even sadder
