Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Hi
New version of Driver eye which simulates the view of a pilot in the cicuito Laguna Seca circuit with Radical in heavy rain conditions.

Keep spamming your videos. We're loving it! :)

Holy f*ck, this game is beautiful! The only thing I'd change is the water droplets on the screen. They seem a little... weird. Other games did it better. Maybe they should add some blur on it, I don't know...

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I haven't really been keeping up on all of the updates, what was the reason for getting rid of the ovals currently?

Also I had a really good race in the Mclaren race car last night at Le Mans. This game is coming around fine so far, for me anyway.
Not enough time to do the tracks/car/series justice, so will come later (DLC)

They also got rid of Willow Springs and a few other courses.
they did not get "rid of it", just the final licensing steps, read here ;) (WMD forum)

I'm blinded by the beauty.

What controls the vision direction/head movement?

I would say he's either using an Oculus Rift or TrackIR, but you have a few other ways that you can control head movement ingame. The first would be a joystick/direction keys if you're using a controller. The right stick on the 360 controller is useful for that. The other way is to adjust the ingame "look-to-apex" setting, which will automatically turn the view towards the apex of turns based on a slider value. The lower the slider, the less the view turns.

Great vid man.

I hope there's an option to turn off those on-screen droplets. They just look like an eyesore graphically. It's a considerable step below from the much more realistic droplets in the F1 games and takes away from the visuals imo.

Surely if it's driver's eye they NEED to be on? Otherwise it kind of goes against the objective?

I guess if it's bonnet cam then you could turn them off?

Even with GIFs like this, people still say this game doesn't look good.

Cheers, theres even a few graphical glitches/bugs that got in there(front splitter on last car clipping and the post reflections being a few pixels off) ,as was pointed out to me. Should be a dead giveaway its from gameplay (just slowed down to hell , and using a freecam)

And yes not all conditions( time of day/weather) look this pretty, duh. But thats no different than cherry picked shots from other games IMO. :)

They don't even obscure your vision so I'm not sure what their objective is besides being a graphical effect. It's definitely not gameplay-affected like the F1 video. Whatever vision obscurity I get in terms of gameplay is from the huge mists kicking up from the cars ahead. Seems like there currently isn't an option to turn them off in any views though. Anyway, I wouldn't mind them if they had looked a bit better.

Thanks for the feedback ( will pass it along to devs) I agree the screen drops could use more blur and be more out of focus. They can be completely disabled in the menu, so fear not. It's not likely to change now as they are quite close to release but I can see it getting updated / improved in a patch after release.

Cheers

Any news on which types of cars we will be getting as DLC? Since the game is almost perfect for my tastes, it's all now just a matter of getting content.

Also, any info on what they are doing with Nascar? I only read things about an old car and one Fusion model... is it all?

Damn! That M3 sounds sick in PCars but horrible in GT6. Polyphony needs to overhaul GT because it's assets are outdated big time.

pCARS uses fantastic sound samples but I feel like the merging and transitioning is terrible. Every time a car shifts gears on my game I can hear the engine audio cut briefly as if it can only play one thing at a time.

Also, ever since they ditched the awkward looking puddles and put the nice "general wet road" shaders in, this is back to being easily the best looking racing game.

Didn't even notice the audio cut you're referring to. I'll check it out again.

EDIT: I still haven't noticed any audio cuts but no I can't unsee the shadow pop-ins on the track.
EDIT2: Oh you meant on your game, not this video. Hopefully it's fixed come release time for you.

The suspension in PC looks crazy stiff. The car is constantly juddering up and down to every single little bump on the track.

How come ed3dfx's gifs and shots have very noticable chromatic aberration (it's even on the HUD), yet no other gameplay videos do. Are you adding this or is it a mod?

We have filters in the game that do this, 99% of people dont use them. Also see the pc screenshot thread here, there are loads of 3rd party tools that add these effects in, and you can dial in the look to how you want as well.

Is that the "ctrl K" function? Its been a while since a last tried it.

Also the 3rd party tools, does that only affect the replay look or does it also apply to the real time in-game look? And what kind of performance hit do the 3rd party plugins have? Last question, and sorry for all the questions, but where do you get them from and is there a "how to" instruction guide to install and tweak them?

Thanks.

The dev build of game has replay filters that you can turn on, some of them feature CA.

Great to hear. :)

Does anyone know if there are any cross-platform leaderboards, or other online cross-platform features? I was thinking about getting this for Xbox One, as I have the TX wheel, but I have more friends with PS4s at the moment. (I don't have a gaming PC either)

no cross platform

You probably should temper any expectations for cross-platform functionality this generation if it's on XB1; Microsoft is really tight on insisting no cross-platform functionality between them and PS4 (PC/XB1 is ok) and they also insist feature parity so the game cannot have cross-platform functionality on PS4/PC (not sure about Vita). Would be nice to have cross-platform leaderboards, but I'd guess the reason for not having them is with Microsoft.

I figured as much, thanks for the reply. A shame about the wheel situation with consoles.
To make it a little more explanatory, each platform holder has its own "on-line environment" (XBL/PSN/Steam) with its own set of rules, requirements and restrictions and they just do not communicate with each other (think for example friend lists (party systems) and joining matches on-line). So even if companies would allow it, then it still would probably require to much work for smaller devs to make it happen (costs).

It was an eye-opener for me as gamer, to see just how much work/dev time it requires to get your game to work. No more comments from me in indie dev threads on "how easy" it is to port a game when it is already running on one console ;)

I wonder if this will change with Xbox + Windows 10 if the APIs make it easy for cross-platform? I guess it may be too soon to say, and GDC would tell more, but MS certainly seem to be pushing it somewhat.

Great video as always.

It's weird that for Monaco they have the actual F1 layout but not the circuit license.

Being that it's just a public road, I'm not sure there even is a license holder. There must be a twist with the name however since the name Monaco is never used (GT, etc). Monaco+layout=F1 license probably.

Yeah I imagine it's something like that. And now I just realized that we'll be able to race Monaco at night in thunderstorm....oh....

Also, this thread is completly killing my Chrome... Even in the "Reply to thread" page I have a good 4-5sec lag behind everything I type.

So I decided to start a GT4 career last night. It was the first time I had races with mendatory pitstops which is fucking cool.

Btw is there any ways to change the next pitstop "on the fly" (like we can do via the LCD system in the rFactor games?). I see the little menu that pops-up when you enter the pits and you can open the strategy menu which is a full screen thing... but does it also pause the game when you go in there? Cause if not then it's really not an efficient way to adapt your pit strategy... And obviously it would never pause the game in multiplayer.

However it works, it doesn't work. Christ.
Well, if you do have a good Internet connection and aren't using a browser that chokes on big GIFs, it does. :p

My point being that the two GIFs posted by ed3dfx on the previous page weigh exactly 76.6 MB, no matter how many times they've been quoted on the page (they're in the browser's cache, it won't download them again any time somebody's quoting the original message).

It doesn't excuse the fact they've been posted without taking any consideration of people having shitty Internet connections, though.
