Your Favorite TCG Cards

In my first Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh Booster I ever bought when I was like 13, I pulled THIS card:

This is the English version, but the Japanese version is nude and showing her breasts. I FREAKED out, because I didn't want my parents to see it, and then took it to school with me and showed all my friends. Needless to say, I ended up walking home that day with a lot of rare cards I had traded a dude with.

Lol I was hoping someone would post this one but it had English text. I saw the clothed version before this so I thought it was an artwork error. This kid back in elementary school would flash it in my face.

Look at this fucking guy. Look at everything he does. There's little that's more satisfying than dropping this dude and stonewalling your opponent.

Cap'n Tickles will not be denied, especially when paired with

There, I just built you a cheap red aggro deck.

Valkyrion - used it as my username, but spelled differently simply cause I loved the way it sounded when they first made this card a PS2 game exclusive. Went out and got the GBA game as well so I could actually use it lol

One of the last cards I got. Started falling out of love with YuGiOh cause of the cost of booster packs and had not bought any for months. That xmas my mom got me a whole stack of the damn things and boom this was in there. Loved it in the show, never thought I'd have the card. At the time super rare.
Grabbed a few Japanese packs as well and got this. Loved the artwork since it was made when it started getting more detailed in Japan but still simple over here, never actually used it though.

Two of my favorite cards, was really excited to get these when I started collecting and playing.

Because its awesome!

Did not collect pokemon cards too much, some of the first set a good year or so after they started and a bit of the trainers set on a whim. Only had a handful overall.

Before those though me and my brother were super into Marvel comics and trading cards. Had tons of a bunch of sets in the early 90's. Marvel magic, masterpiece ect. The artwork always blew me away, loved them.

Been watching a ton of unboxing videos too see what the newer card games look like and really gave me the itch to start collecting again. Especailly the Puzzles and Dragon's TCG if it ever releases outside Japan. Also Buddy Cardfight or w/e its called has some stupid looking animation, but ridiculous awesome card artwork lol.

I ran a Death Star deck back in the day with tons of the big Star Destroyers and whatnot. I have no clue if the deck was good or not as I was just a kid then, but I remember the couple of times I managed to pull this card off.

One game I held off winning forever just so I could reach Tatooine and blow it up.

- Drudge Skeletons. Super shitty, but there's just something so charming about little undying skeleton hordes... near and dear to my heart, ever since I got the 8th Edition preconstructed deck with them.

- Kamahl, Pit Fighter. Really iconic card to me - one of my first, pulled from an Odyssey pack years before I even knew what Magic was. Dies SO easily, but it's fun to zap people at least. Never quite figured out how to use him right...

- Azusa, Lost but Seeking. A friend of mine got this for me back when she was ~$7. I always liked the character, the flavor, the art... turns out she's also really fucking good. She's quintupled in price since then, but it's mostly sentiment for me.

- Hamletback Goliath. Just a big dumb smashy guy that gets bigger and dumber and smashier when you play more big dumb smashy guys. That's about as stategic as I get, frankly. But it feels good to just pile up those counters...

Oh god, the time I played Yugioh I hated this fucking card, this and a trap card that also prevented Monsters of level 4+ to attack, sometimes I just gave up when they got played

Wel, sometimes I had them, other times not, and then when the trap was activated and I used MST or another spell then Imperial order made its entrance -______-

It was fun tho, and from Yugioh I can say that my two absolute favorite cards ever were Chaos Emperor Dragon and the absolute destroyer of hope: Yata Garasu

I've always enjoyed Vampire: The Eternal Struggle card art. Some of it is bad, but a lot of the older stuff was good. This has always been my favorite for reasons I do not know.

I earned a voucher for a free McDonald's cheeseburger as a child for doing well in swimming lessons (I think they sponsored the aquatic centre) once. I traded for a Blue-Eyes White Dragon folded in quarters from this guy at my school. It was a really shit card

When I was younger, it's Black Luster Soldier. That was a time where nobody understood Japanese and yet still buys boatloads of YGO cards and ritual monsters was all foiled cards in limited edition booster.

But now, my absolute favourite is Change of Hearts. It's incredible utility aside, it's the prettiest YGO card to me.

Xyz monsters to the rescue!!
300px-Number39Utopia-YS13-EN-SR-1E.png

Instead of a Level, Xyz Monsters have a Rank.
An Xyz Monster's Rank is not its Level. Xyz Monsters do not have Levels. Therefore, they cannot be used for Synchro, Ritual, or Xyz Summons unless explicitly named as a requirement. Any effects that would refer to the Level of a monster, such as those of "Gravity Bind", "Level Limit - Area B", "Roulette Barrel", "Star Changer" and even "Burden of the Mighty" cannot be applied to any Xyz Monsters under any circumstances.

Seriously, the introduction of Xyz monster shafted Gravity Bind and Level Limit Area so hard the cards are no longer limited in any form, you can use 3 of them now

You'd have though they would have learned their lesson but apparently not...

To be fair, Griselbrand doesn't see much tournament play, and when he does, it's always in a reanimator context. It is banned in Commander, but that is a casual format where you can be guaranteed to have that "in your hand".

I was trying to look them up the other day. They go in a special zone and let you play a bunch of stuff for free, I guess?
Somewhere along the way konami realized that there's very little in the main deck that has comparable power to that of an extra deck monster (bar rituals for obvious reasons), so they went "screw it" and just made life easier.

They're a pain to draw into though (they need a pair to do anything) so only a few archetypes that have them (i.e. pendulum archetypes like qliphort and older archetypes that got pendulums like Crystal Beast) play them.

They also double as a sort of resource mechanic since pendulums themselves are essentially immortal and can be used for tributes.

What's up with those two-tone YuGiOh cards? Are they special in some way? I haven't followed the scene in years.

Ill copy my explanation from another thread

Pendulum cards are cards that can be summoned as regular monsters, or casted as spells. That's why they have 2 effect boxes, upper one is the spell effect, and lower one your classic monster effect.

StargazerMagician-YS14-EN-SR-1E.png

To activate a Pendulum as a spell, you place it face up in the all new Pendulum Zones, 2 zone located at the sides of the traditional board. Once played there, they stay there as continous spells, and can't be removed or replaced unless they are destroyed/sent to hand/banished by a another card effect

cMq1CJm.jpg

Cool thing about the new zones is that with them, Pendulums monsters don't take your 5 traditional spell zones.

when removed from the field Pendulum cards don't go to the graveyard, but to the extra deck(previously fusion deck)

Now for the true use of Pendulum cards. The Pendulum summons.

See the number in the red and blue arrows at the side of the card? that's its scale.

When you have both Pendulum zones occupied by 2 Pendulum cards, and they have different scales, you are allowed to summon as many monsters from your hand or Pendulum that were sent to the extra deck as possible as long as their levels are between the numbers in the scales

for example, if I have a Pendulum with a scale of 1 and the other with a scale of 9, I can instantly summon 3 blue eyes white dragons in my hand, since their level (8 each) is between 1 and 9 (eat your heart out Kaiba)

images

This can only be done once per turn, and the most powerful Pendulum cards usually place even more restrictions on it.

Hope I helped. :)

I'm not sure if this exists already or not, but if a Yugioh OT doesn't exist you may want to consider making one. You clearly know your shit. lol

I REALLY suck at metagame since I'm poor. lol
But people have told I'm good at explaining the game for casual play, I hope it's true

An OT already exists, but there's not much going on there. Pojo is the go-to forum for yugimanz

Wow, Pojo is still alive? And they haven't even updated their UI at all.

Pojo was legit the only site I was a member of before I came here. I was Captain_Marvel on there back in the day. I was also one of the writers for Neopets TCG reviews (lol)

Does anyone know if there is a really good card image database for old TCGs, akin to what you'd get off Gatherer?

I kind of want to 'break open' the Star Wars TCG again and give the old ICE "Middle Earth" TCG a shot, but I have been completely unable to get my hands on a good lot of cards and I'd love to just make some proxies up to get a feel for the games. Few other really old TCGs I'd love to give a shot but can't get cards for. :(

I guess I could keep trying to track down the cards and scan them myself haha.

In hindsight, I'm amazed every game of Pokemon didn't just end in decking due to the insane amount of free card draw the game had

But those cards are banned, so you can't use them outside of traditional anyway.

For me I still play Yugioh from time to time and I ran one of the largest created card games for it. Those are my personal favorites. Pokemon was annoying to play, but when I was a child I loved collecting them.

My favorite artworks on Yugioh cards are Gemini Elf, Graceful Charity, Blue-Eyes White Dragon version 1, Rescue Rabbit, Bad Reaction to Simochi, Hungry Burger, Sweet Memories, and King of the Skull Servants.

I don't like how Magic the Gathering cards look ashy.
