Well that's a shame. Not like it would have arrived to my country anyway, but it's nice that it will be available on VOD services nonetheless.

Will she have her natural accent in Brooklyn since she plays an Irish immigrant?

Not exactly:

Is Brooklyn one of the first times you’re going to be able to use your actual accent?
Actually, I have more of a Dublin accent and my character in Brooklyn is from the countryside in southeast Ireland so it’s a bit different but it’s great to be playing an Irish girl! <snip>

Close enough then! Surprised The Grand Budapest Hotel still the only film with her natural accent.

That sound you hear is the rumour mill doing its thing:

X-Men Apocalypse bits and bobs said:
Happy New Year everyone! Good to be back on the fanboy grind.

<snip>

Well, it looks like those names were preliminary because I got a new batch of names and these young folks are actually testing for the roles at this stage.

Producer Simon Kinberg has already stated that the film will bring in younger actors to play Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.

<snip>

For Young Jean Grey the new contenders are Sophie Turner and Saoirse Ronan.

Sophie Turner does adequate with her material in GOT but she's in no way a strong actress. She does have the height (given Famke Janssen is tall) but Saoirse Ronan is definitely a better choice.

Either of them are better than those initial choices from a few months ago of Chloe Moretz or Elle Fanning, who would be the height of casting a name instead of a character.

After the Oscar nominations, it's good to see Grand Hotel Budapest is one of the favorites, they've been talking about it in my local news channel. Maybe people will see her more for her acting role here rather than The Host!

Stockholm, Pennsylvania premiered at Sundance yesterday.

In addition to a bunch of pics, there are also these interviews.

Brooklyn premieres in a couple of days.

Edit: LA Times interview. FYI, I'm going to keep the Sundance interviews pertaining to Stockholm, PA in this post and the Brooklyn ones in the post I make about its premiere so they're not scattered about.

Edit edit: Ruby Hornet interview.

Edit edit edit: Edit^7: Brooklyn/Stockholm interview with Collider.

Just coming to give my condolences, JaseC. I'm sure some day your dream of a Saoirse Ronan Hollywood will come true. Someday. Somewhere.

It's probably the dog but she looks tiny in that pic.

I thought it was a Rhodesian Ridgeback at first glance. A mate-of-a-mate has one and it's a big softie, which is a bit of a problem since he doesn't realise how big he his, haha.

I'll live. ;) Since the Age of Ultron and Star Wars rumours didn't pan out I kept my expectations low. It'll happen one day, though. One day!

To be honest I don't mind if she doesn't reach big Hollywood status, many of the best films are not Hollywood's, and she's done some good ones already.

Except The Host. But I'd definitely love if she made it.

i miss her thin face.. :( girls getting thick... still looks great but still.

Hey, there's a certain level of thickness that's really hot. But Saoirse Ronan probably has some extra to go than usual until she's not as attractive.
I LOVE HER FOR WHOEVER SHE WANTS TO BE DAMMIT

She has put on a bit of weight since Brooklyn wrapped and I can't help but wonder if it played a part in her losing out on the X-Men role. The film won't start shooting until April, so it's not as though time wasn't on her side, but "first impressions" and all that.

I wouldn't have thought it played a part. Sophie turner has the better look for the role and is more well known. Saoirse I think, is picking work in smaller movies. I think she likes doing them, but it's not doing her any favours if she wants to become a huge star.

Yeah, Sophie's work in Game of Thrones is why I figured it'd go her way. Before The Host's press junket kicked off, the last time one of Saoirse's films had any major exposure was the run up to the release of The Lovely Bones (both of which met the same fate, funnily enough -- critically panned and largely unnoticed by the general public).

Brooklyn stuff:

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of interviews at this stage aside from this one, but a couple of days ago Saoirse was interviewed alongside Toni Collette for Cinema Cafe (time stamp is 19 minutes and 30 seconds if the video doesn't jump ahead) and it's a big one, weighing in at about an hour. Clips for Brooklyn and Stockholm, PA are shown, but the stream only offers the latter as the former wasn't "approved for broadcast". At the end there's a bit of a Q&A with the audience and naturally someone asks "What's next?" Saoirse says she has something lined up for the end of the year that she can't talk about yet, which is somewhat reassuring as it means her career isn't dead. ;) Speaking of death, though, I wouldn't think she's referring to the long-delayed Mary Queen of Scots considering she's talked about it in the past, so despite Susanne Bier's semi-recent reaffirmation that the film is still going to happen, I'm leaning towards the opposite.

Edit: Oh, putting a URL as the quote author no longer generates a link. Must have been a browser quirk.

Edit edit: Some more interviews:
IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1966124569/
HitFix (evidently a snippet of a longer interview, but at least it's longer than a minute): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Pr3NyLZ7M

And some more photos:

Edit edit: Interview with Variety, audience Q&A from the premiere and a few more portraits. I particularly like this one, which is totally going to my avatar in a few minutes:

Edit edit edit: Here's the full HitFix interview.

Edit^4: Interview with RogerEbert.com.

Edit^5: Interview with the Huffington Post.

Edit^6: Interview with the aptly-named Interview Magazine.

Edit^7: Brooklyn/Stockholm interview with Collider.

Finally a bit of good news for Saoirse. Fox Searchlight have picked up Brooklyn and the buzz from Sundance is that it's likely to be part of awards season.

If she snags that long-overdue second Oscar nomination, then I can forgive Bier for (seemingly) letting Mary Queen of Scots wither and die.

And some more photos:

I've noticed a subtle shift from cute teenager to woman (and I don't mean in a creepy way) in these new photos, which is good to see. I also hope she continues to land the roles she wants but isn't disheartened by her lack of success in Hollywood.

Plenty of people slug away at that before making it big.

I've been editing newly-released interviews and such into the Stockholm/Brooklyn-based posts above, but I figured I'd bump the thread for this since, to the best of my knowledge, it's her first interview for Roger Ebert's site (if only it were with the man himself :().

Once it becomes clear that the media has stopped drip-feeding its festival coverage, I'll make a list of all the notable Sundance interviews that I've come across (there's no point in linking to stuff that can be measured in seconds), for the sake of one's browser scrollbar.

WB has released a trailer for Lost River. The film hits VOD services/select US cinemas in a couple of months (April 10th).

Edit: And a couple more Stockholm, PA portraits from Sundance.

Edit edit: Lost River's soundtrack will feature songs sung (at least in part) by Saoirse and there's a new Stockholm, PA interview (plus a few pics, too).

Edit edit edit: Brooklyn/Stockholm, PA interview with Collider and a few more Stockholm, PA portraits.

Edit^4: New Lost River still:

Edit^5: A few more (and presumably the last) portraits from the Brooklyn premiere.

Why did she turn into Shelley Duvall?

Speaking of Lost River, WB has released an international version of the trailer and the film itself is now available for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes.

Also, since it's been a couple of weeks and some change since the last Sundance interview was released/published, here's the lot that I edited into the Stockholm/Brooklyn posts above:

- Sundance.com (text)
- HollywireTV (video)
- LA Times (1) (video)
- Ruby Hornet (audio)
- Collider (video)
- LA Times (2) (text)
- Cinema Cafe (video)
- IMDb (video)
- Variety (video)
- Audience Q&A at the Brooklyn premiere (video)
- HitFix (video)
- RogerEbert.com (text)
- Huffington Post (text)
- Interview Magazine (text)

Edit: I somehow managed to miss this: Beyond Cinema (video).

Edit edit: Another one: GoldenGlobes.com (video).

I'm going to feel the same way about Brooklyn if Fox sits on it until the end of the year. The main reason I was looking forward to Mary Queen of Scots is the strong core creative talent, but judging from Brooklyn's reception at Sundance and the early Oscar buzz it's generated since, it seems Saoirse finally having a script worthy of her abilities is something that's already happened.

Oh that's nice! So Fox might delay the movie to get into Oscar season?
