DirectX 12 adds a 20% gpu boost to the PC version of Fable

So, like, should the thread title changed from Xbox One to PC, or more specifically Fable PC?

Additionally, Elite: Dangerous is a pretty nice get. Is it exclusive? Like Wasteland 2 looked like it was yesterday but it turns out its coming to PS4.

You can assume that unless MS/Sony straight up fund the initial development it is a timed exclusive.

Not how resolutions work.

Mostly a joke, and honestly, that's not how GPU boosts work either. A 20% boost could mean less or more depending on what exactly is being boosted, and where do we leave the 50% CPU boost? it's 50% CPU and 20% GPU, whatever that translates to.

so, it's 20% for PC.

will it have any effect at all on XB1? surely there is some minimal improvement? maybe?

Maybe windows central is the one who misquoted Phil Spencer? Maybe that 20% GPU boost is true for both XBO and PC? Let's wait for more details before blaming Phil Spencer.

That 50% CPU boost is still bullshit though, even for PC.
The boost can be more than 50% depending on your CPU and the draw calls.

20% to the PC

It's a 20% increase on the PC, not on the One.
its not even that, its a 20% increase on 1 game on PC.

No one should ever believe a software change adding any major performance gains to a console. Console gains are gradual by slowly improving toolsets that make more efficient use of hardware calls

DX12 and other modern graphical APIs (Mantle, glNext / Vulkan) achieve performance boosts by moving as much stuff out of the CPU and into the GPU, lowering the amount of memory copies, multicore support, and reducing bottlenecks caused by synchronous / single threaded locks.

Kind of nebulous to say 20% improvement (or 100% as previously claimed) because it probably means with specific use cases.

Given how similar the PS4 and XB1 are, anything that one can do can probably be replicated by the other. I expect Sony, Valve and others will get behind Vulkan which will deliver similar gains in a more cross platform fashion. Given that DX12 is only appearing in Windows 10 / XB1 and Vulkan god knows when, it'll probably be a few years before either of them is especially prevalent.

This is confusing. lol. 20% boost on PC actually seems lesser than what was rumored earlier. What exactly did they show in the fable legends demo? Given that's what they are announcing, is this the best case scenario?

Pretty sure it will have help improve performance on xbox one as well, but now we have no idea to what extent.

Anything that helps out my 980 is more than welcome. Good news just keeps coming for me.
Or is my 980 not even affected?

I've used AMD cards for a long time and never experienced the advertised driver performance increase in any software.
Now that was never on static hardware like the Xbox One and SURELY Microsoft has to have the clarity to know that if they spout PR bullshit that doesn't materialise one more time they'll be able to fit their credibility on the surface of that 28nm GCN.
So I'd be shocked if this doesn't come to fruition but still; I don't want to hear it, I want to see it.

EDIT: Live blogging is amazing.

So it they were talking about PC, not the X1. Wow.

So many people on N4G were serving crow, only to end up eating it themselves after the article was updated.

People really need to start reading articles properly before commenting.

Goddamnit guys. I read the title then came in to read the first page and was SO confused.

You know, I kind of miss the bear & salmon thread titles. Can we go back to that please? Which mod was it?

Wouldn't be a Microsoft event without a lie/omission/lack of clarity/PR fuck-up. It's like these guys have learned nothing.

If anyone botched the message it ways the live bloggers.

Pretty much this. I can't believe they could have reached that very specific conclusion based on that Microsoft quote. I'm holding off until the video is released to hear what was actually said on stage.

I don't know, sounds like those bloggers are the ones that fucked up.

You know you clearly have issues when the initial "20% gpu boost to the xbox one" almost made me mad.

I think the moral is, I gotta get a new hobby.
