Does retail even want to stock a bunch of plastic instruments again?
I can see this flopping pretty hard.

Yeah as I come down off of the excitement of the announcement, I'm coming around to this mindset. I'll probably just end up getting it for PS4 and re-buy a very limited assortment of only my very favorite DLC tracks.
Yeah a PS4 or Xbone would probably only play Rock Band right? Dont think about all those other great games you could be playing....
As far as I'm aware, he is one of the artists that dislike the plastic instrument games.Has there ever been any Prince songs in Rock Band?

I likely will never get an Xbox One, so it appears my 300~ DLC songs will be rotting on my Live account for eternity.
Whether or not I get this for the PS4 at some point in the future depends on:
- Track listing
- Instrument quality
- Price remaining within reason
- Good variety of DLC tracks

I think you may be in the minority in terms of expecting a change there.
Well that confirms Harmonix are only making a HD port but good for people who still have their old instruments, I guess..

With digital sales only growing, I imagine retailers would love to have a reason for people to come into their stores.Does retail even want to stock a bunch of plastic instruments again?

Agreed. Now all I need is for Activision to announce new instruments. I prefer the Guitar Hero ones by far.

I'm so, so, so happy! Man, can't wait.
And I know MS has to be happy about the DLC compatibility. Series sold better on 360 so I could see many big Rock Band fans getting an Xbox One just to play all of their tracks.
Q: Will my old DLC work on the next gen console of the same type, i.e. PS3 -> PS4?
A: Yes! Content purchased from the store or exported from a disc will transfer over to the new generation of consoles at not addition cost as we make that content available.

This is my exact problem. I think I ended up with 1035 songs when I stopped purchasing DLC.I'm hoping this winds up not being necessary, but I deeply fear that it will be.
And it sucks. I went PS4 this generation and I have absolutely no need or desire for an Xbox One except for this if it's necessary. And yet, buying one would still be cheaper than repurchasing all the songs I've got.

"Weve landed on a design that doubles down on the core Rock Band experience fans love, while innovating on gameplay in some super exciting ways that well have more to say about a little later this year."
...
"Make no mistake, Rock Band 4 isnt a simple next-gen remaster of an existing game- its the next step forward for the series. I cant wait to rock out with you later this year!"
So does this mean all my Rock Band songs will work, but only when they've also created a RB4 version of the songs?
There are some interviews floating around where they address their focus for the game and that they are looking to expand on the gameplay elements and features so it's not just an HD port.
It's not a dislike of games, so much as he's one of the most notoriously controlling artists out there.
It doesn't confirm anything of the sort. Just because the instruments won't change doesn't mean there won't be new gameplay.
That's how I read it, and it seems like you and I are the only ones who noted that.
werent they asking people if they want a new rockband just over a month ago?
so they can pump these out in less than a year..
I'm pretty sure it showed song you played and it was based off of leaderboards.Just thinking out loud here, on the topic of 360-to-PS4 transfer:
Obviously, Microsoft has good reason to not cooperate with such a transfer, because clearly there are far more former 360 owners with PS4s than former PS3 owners with XB1s.
However, once upon a time, I created an account at Rockband.com, and the site showed all the songs I owned, my characters, and my high scores. So there is a mechanism for them to know what DLC you've bought.
At this point, they don't need Microsoft to help in this process.
It's Sony and the song owners that would need to sign off on "giving away" these songs, once they're identified. So it's not impossible - the argument simply needs to be made that it's in their interest. If they see it as I said above, "giving away" a bunch of content, they'll obviously say no. But if it's presented as "do this or people will pass on the game", then maybe it would sway them.
Maybe we need a mechanism to demonstrate the amount of demand for this. I don't do social media, really, but if anyone wants to start a campaign, I'd be happy to make this my 3rd tweet.

You're calling a sensible solution nonsense.
What about a Harmonix Account is nonsense? Sure, it would probably have needed to be in place before everything, but why not at least do it now? What happens when Rock Band 9 comes out for some Amazon console in ten years?
I barely have enough time to play the games on ps4. Don't get so offended by a random persons buying habits.
I could of swore I read he was one of the artists who was on the "why dont you learn a real instrument" side of things.
