Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Yeah as I come down off of the excitement of the announcement, I'm coming around to this mindset. I'll probably just end up getting it for PS4 and re-buy a very limited assortment of only my very favorite DLC tracks.

Same as me now, actually. I look at my real bass and guitar, then over at Rocksmith on PC with all the custom songs...

I mean sure I enjoyed the drums the most out of Rock Band, but now that I'm an apartment dweller again I don't drum at all anymore.

I likely will never get an Xbox One, so it appears my 300~ DLC songs will be rotting on my Live account for eternity.

Whether or not I get this for the PS4 at some point in the future depends on:

- Track listing
- Instrument quality
- Price remaining within reason
- Good variety of DLC tracks

Agreed. All of my RB stuff was on Wii, so no DLC or instrument carryover for me.

I'll need good pricing (or a sale) and some Rush, Yes, Muse, Queen, etc.

EDIT: Hello, NIN bro above me ^

I really hope they get cross platform DLC porting working. Otherwise I dont know if I can find myself buying this on xbone when ps4 is my primary console

Well that confirms Harmonix are only making a HD port but good for people who still have their old instruments, I guess..

There are some interviews floating around where they address their focus for the game and that they are looking to expand on the gameplay elements and features so it's not just an HD port.

I'm so, so, so happy! Man, can't wait.

And I know MS has to be happy about the DLC compatibility. Series sold better on 360 so I could see many big Rock Band fans getting an Xbox One just to play all of their tracks.

I'm hoping this winds up not being necessary, but I deeply fear that it will be.

And it sucks. I went PS4 this generation and I have absolutely no need or desire for an Xbox One except for this if it's necessary. And yet, buying one would still be cheaper than repurchasing all the songs I've got.

Q: Will my old DLC work on the next gen console of the same type, i.e. PS3 -> PS4?
A: Yes! Content purchased from the store or exported from a disc will transfer over to the new generation of consoles at not addition cost as we make that content available.

So does this mean all my Rock Band songs will work, but only when they've also created a RB4 version of the songs?

Cause they didn't add more buttons, it's a no buy. Ok then. And why are you labeling it as an HD port when we know practically nothing on what the game will contain. They have said that this will be the only Rock Band released this generation, with updates throughout.

Just thinking out loud here, on the topic of 360-to-PS4 transfer:

Obviously, Microsoft has good reason to not cooperate with such a transfer, because clearly there are far more former 360 owners with PS4s than former PS3 owners with XB1s.

However, once upon a time, I created an account at Rockband.com, and the site showed all the songs I owned, my characters, and my high scores. So there is a mechanism for them to know what DLC you've bought.

At this point, they don't need Microsoft to help in this process.

It's Sony and the song owners that would need to sign off on "giving away" these songs, once they're identified. So it's not impossible - the argument simply needs to be made that it's in their interest. If they see it as I said above, "giving away" a bunch of content, they'll obviously say no. But if it's presented as "do this or people will pass on the game", then maybe it would sway them.

Maybe we need a mechanism to demonstrate the amount of demand for this. I don't do social media, really, but if anyone wants to start a campaign, I'd be happy to make this my 3rd tweet.

This is my exact problem. I think I ended up with 1035 songs when I stopped purchasing DLC.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/05/rock-band-4-coming-to-ps4-this-year/

"We’ve landed on a design that doubles down on the core Rock Band experience fans love, while innovating on gameplay in some super exciting ways that we’ll have more to say about a little later this year."

...

"Make no mistake, Rock Band 4 isn’t a simple “next-gen remaster” of an existing game- it’s the next step forward for the series. I can’t wait to rock out with you later this year!"

There are some interviews floating around where they address their focus for the game and that they are looking to expand on the gameplay elements and features so it's not just an HD port.

Feels like it when compared. Ah well, drums on RB was still really good. I'm hoping Mad Katz do an awesome drum kit because I'll be all over that!

Edit: That quote from RyanPierre is quite interesting, some hope remains for RB!

It doesn't confirm anything of the sort. Just because the instruments won't change doesn't mean there won't be new gameplay.

I disagree, the controller is the main input and playing songs, imo, is the core experience. Anything else is just filler around the part of the game you want to play. Keeping the same hardware limits any new core gameplay for a musical game.

It's great that we can import older songs..

This is very re-assuring, and a reason to buy the new installment.

I just need to buy an ultra-low latency tv set.

No Pro Guitar and No Pro Keys support = No Buy... What the hell, Harmonix !!!

Taking such a long break, I was expecting the return of an almost professional grade pro mode (think Rocksmith, but for all instruments), not the removal of the feature altogether ?
Why am I suppose to upgrade from RB now again ? To go back in time from a two octave key and a near full guitar to a 5 button fase plastic guitar ? Series should go forward, not take a huge step backwards. Pro Mode was the future, Rocksmith is the future, this is a relic of the past, where people settled with the easy illusion of mastering tough songs because they could hit 5 colored buttons fast enough.

As a primary Pro Keyboard user that also loves playing Pro Guitar, and as someone that value my time spent doing make believe music, I think the least they could do is provide an incentive for people that see hitting five buttons as unchallenging and frankly useless in a music game... We want to learn the real songs, and while I'll agree the main target audience is peole that want a make believe party game, I for one will not take part in this rebirth...

You're not getting me back on board Harmonix... I'm hoping Rocksmith makes a return with a "Band" game will all pro instruments, using real midi instruments and offering real learning tools for Keyboards and Drums... As the niche is now wide open for them.

Great news, especially being able to use your old content! Hopefully they have a fresh store to buy from as well. Love having 100's of songs to choose from.

Day One!

I'm pretty sure it showed song you played and it was based off of leaderboards.

It's not a matter of tracking what you have but rather moving the license for the song that was purchased. This is has to do with record labels as much as it does Microsoft and Sony and the way content licenses work.

Good to see the decisions made so far.

Dropping keys and pro guitar are pretty damn essential for survival.

As the Polygon article said, a number of factors contributed to the decline, and the pro instruments splintered the RB community, and also intimidated the FUCK out of new and casual players.

No one wanted to go to parties and switch instruments all night long if there was some dude fucking around on a real guitar or a full-size keyboard which was scary to them.

Wonder of this will have the same impact Rock Band had when it came out. Hopefully the instruments package isn't mad expensive.

I'm down for a Guitar + Game combo, hopefully the adapter needed to get the rest of my stuff working doesn't cost too much.

I'm unsure if I'll bite it they don't have cross platform dlc support. I'm sure I'm one of the few people to go PS3 > XBOne but cmon Harmonix. Get out there and beg if you have to.

You're calling a sensible solution nonsense.

What about a Harmonix Account is nonsense? Sure, it would probably have needed to be in place before everything, but why not at least do it now? What happens when Rock Band 9 comes out for some Amazon console in ten years?

Because Harmonix can't just do that. The platform holders can't just *not* make money off content they're hosting. They're not hosting it, then, you say? There's no way the console makers would let a game download data not signed by them and keep it executable on a hard drive.

Not to mention going back and relicensing everything in a different way that by default would earn the music holders less money.

It's not going to happen. It's not sensible. It's wishful thinking.

I could of swore I read he was one of the artists who was on the "why dont you learn a real instrument" side of things.

He may have, but the bigger point is he's in general very anal about how his music is heard and experienced. He's one of the most difficult artists to license from.

That's how I read it, and it seems like you and I are the only ones who noted that.

I imagine that it's not anything amazingly complex that they have to do. They have a ton of songs that they'll need to check through to ensure they don't break anything major (like the save-killing glitch in RB3 for bands with long names early on), and that understandably will take some time. I can't imagine that they'd be doing actual new versions of 2000 tracks.

count me in the "Over 600 songs in xbox 360 but now has only PS4" camp.

If they can find a way to bring the library over cross console, which they didnt say they wont thye just said is not up only to them, remember rockstar did it with GTA 5, then I would be even willing to pay a fee to do it.

I love RB. I kept my 360 just for it.
