Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Oh me too ... Harmonix I hope you're reading this :)

Considering Harmonix PR guy was in the thread, they might be. Still, it's probably too much work with authoring/licensing it.

Also, imagine songs in Polish, lol. "shjshhdfsdhgfskdgfks"

It's completely customizable. If you're getting mixed results, you're doing something wrong.

Could be you're right. I was able to manually adjust the settings to something that was passable for regular play "for fun," but for some reason, I could never fine tune it enough to get accurate timing for crazy fast guitar solos with really intricate strumming for gold starring the more difficult songs.

When I looked around for solutions to this, a lot of the hardcore competitive RB types advised that my first mistake was using a home theater set up at all, and that the best possible experience was achieved by simply hooking up separate speakers directly to the PS3 to eliminate any possibility of audio latency. That's obviously one way to go about it, but it seems a bit extreme to go to those lengths just to ensure you can hit every note in Green Grass & High Tides or Freebird.

No PS2 controller support and not Wii controller support means Harmonix is rapidly heading the way of Maxis.

They almost went out of business the first time around by fucking over the Wii and Europe, it's amazing that they've aimed the ship into the same failed cliffs.

Shame they never learn.

Im sure Activision is ready to jump in and win the sales crown again by giving people what they want. They destroyed RB last time around and they will again this time.

Theres a reason Harmonix is a niche studio that has developed maybe 2 games people have heard of, while Activision is a top 5 name in gaming.

I'm amazed that anyone would feel the need to troll a Rock Band thread, but, there it is.

Here's what I'd like to see.

Tool, Rammstein, more Godsmack, more Pantera, Cowboys From Hell especially. A Perfect Circle Mer De Noms album, more Deftones, Lita Ford - Close My Eyes Forever
Heavy Metal Soundtrack espcieally Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride), more Lamb of God, more Machine Head, more Nine Inch nails (Especially Just like you imagined), Creed - Can you Take me higher, more Rage against the machine.

I hope music companies are more eager to license music since this is one way that people will pay for music these days.

I'm dead serious, I hope Harmonix does something about their shit guitars. I love the game, but the guitars aren't exactly the best, especially compared to GH.

Higher is on RBN already

Happy this is finally a thing. And massively happy I can export all my Rock Band 3 DLC over. Now to try and hunt Rock Band 1 and 2 on the cheap tomorrow.

That said, even though it won't happen for a unlimited amount of issues and rights, if Harmonix ever lets us export The Beatles: Rock Band into RB4, that'll be the safest purchase you will ever have. Beatles: RB is the best music game ever and one of the finest games I played last gen (top ten in fact).

It won't happen, especially now Harmonix isn't tied to MTV, but I can dream.

I only have the entire plastic instruments from Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Will it support that? Otherwise I'm not really interested in this game.

No concrete info about instruments compatibility. Although IIRC they said in the thread they are looking into the GH ones as well (it doesn't depends only on them AFAIK).

I'd like to see The Becoming by NIN for the solo alone.

Welp, not really a fan of these games but whoever defected from 360 to PS4 must be really pissed off right now.

Eh, having Rocksmith eases the pain -- I may be over plastic instruments at this point. Still, I'd probably have bit on the PS4 version of RB if I could bring over my 360 content.

I imagine if they get the rock band instruments working there is a high chance for the GH ones as well as they did a good job of supporting the GH instruments in general when they could have easily locked them out like they did at launch.

Yea Thats they only way I see RB1 coming along. Is if that Harmonix has some good will and take your account having the export license as you owning RB1.

But the flip side is; whats stopping people from downloading the export license to fake the funk?

You can't buy it on 360 without having the disc, I think.

Either way it's only 5$ so if you're gonna do it, I'd probably buy the RB1 export just in case before it gets possibly taken down.

I think I remember Rock Band PS3 not supporting one of the GH instruments at launch and Activision delaying the patch a while because copyright or whatever. Can't be sure even if they succeed with their own.

[EDIT]
Better late than never, right? It's been nine months since we first talked about the guitar compatibility patch that allows Guitar Hero III controllers to be used with Rock Band. That same patch was blocked by Activision and, we assumed, would never see the light of day again. Now, however, it's finally available. We've tried and tested it and it does exactly what we assumed it would -- allow Rock Band players to play 4-player without having to pay an extortionate amount of money for a second guitar.

Thanks for the confirmations. The Lego Rock Band export was some kind of download off PSN store or XBL store right? I definitely don't own the disc anymore, but I think I bought it at some point.

Just FYI, you can't export RB2 or Lego anymore, the licenses expired for those.

The only RBs you can export as of today are RB1, Green Day, and Blitz.

edit: for new exports, if you have the exports already you can still redownload/re-export

Wow

Considering my massive amounts of DLC and me still having all my plastic instruments....this might be the first next gen title to seriously make me consider upgrading.

I would've never thought in a million years this would be that game.

Would strongly recommend not buying a PS version of this in Europe, import it or buy on another platform. Constant DLC issues with music games and SCEE.

Eh, I was gonna get an X1 eventually though, this only speeds up the process. Tbh the thing actually has a lot of games I want, only reason I haven't really bought one yet is because I still hold a grudge against Microsoft for still trying the online-only BS, but I think with the announcement of this I'll get the console anyways.

FWIW, if you do actually want the game on Wii U, voice your opinion @Harmonix with the tag #RockBand4WiiU. I'm not optimistic, but it seems Harmonix would actually like to be proven wrong, and they've been responding to folks asking for it basically saying they are seeing the reactions. Maybe they'll fall for a lot of tweets and make the game =P.

Literally no one buys DLC on Wii U games, much less digital versions. When games have season passes cancelled, you know it's a wasteland.

Someone please please help me.

I live in a condo on my own, not on the 1st floor.

Is the age of "having a drum set" in Rock Band over for me?

Back in the Rock Band 360 days I lived with my parents at their house, and I could play Rock Band drums in the basement with no problems - no chance of disturbing anyone.

Would RB drums be too disturbing for the neighbours in the floor below me today?

With so many people going 360 > PS4, i hope that doesnt affect sales.

That said i am glad all my previous DLC will work on PS4. Now i need a much bigger HDD.

A lot of that depends on the actual construction and quality of the building you're living in. I did once live in an apartment a few years ago where my neighbours below could hear me stomping on the pedal for drums, but since we were friends, it wasn't an issue.

But yeah, it's quite possible for drumming--even on plastic ones--to carry through walls, floors and ceilings.

In my experience, yes. Every time I would try and play (at two different apartments) the downstairs neighbor would beat on the ceiling. I'm really glad we went for a downstairs apartment this time.

Depends on your play style. Some people laid into them as hard as possible, but they worked perfectly fine without abusing the shit out of them. I also custom made foam pads to deafen them.

In the podcast?

That seems really odd to me as a SW developer.

Even assuming the DLC container is different for the new platforms, it should be trivial enough to automate that?

Depends. The note charts could carry over, for example, but if they've come up with a new animation system for RB4 so that they're not limited by RB1 era engine limitations, they would have to manually convert songs to take advantage of any new stuff.

What I would hope this means is old songs are going to get stuff like strum lanes, etc.

Thanks. :( Doesn't sound good. I remember there was a full year where the ONLY video game I played was rock band drums. I loved that, man.

It's not like different divisions give a fuck about each other, though.

I was going off the notion that the company isn't in the best place financially, so helping out another division with an issue, I'd imagine is less difficult on their end wouldn't be out of the question. It would be beneficial too.

I'm only going to be able to play RB drumming during the Summer and during Winter/Spring breaks until I'm done with college and move back home, but it'll be worth it >.>

Tbh the majority of my RB time was done in the Summer anyways for some reason. During the Summers in HS there were basically days where I'd get up and just play RB for the majority of the day.

With so many people going 360 > PS4, i hope that doesnt affect sales.

I had a fair bit of DLC for RB3 on my old Xbox 360, plus the songs from RB1 and 2 were exported. The fact that I'd be reminded of what I'm missing out on every time I play probably means I'm gonna give RB4 a miss, as much as I enjoyed it. I can't justify buying a new console just for one game.

The weird thing is I didn't really expect to be able to use old DLC so I was half prepared for it, but the fact that some can but others can't would make me feel like I'm missing out and not getting the most out of my game... It's hard to explain.

It's been obviously hinted at for a while, but glad it's finally confirmed. No PC or Wii U though, looks like I'm finally getting a PS4.
