Completely disagree. Assassin's Creed (and Tomb Raider) are popular series -- Wouldn't happen for just any game. A (say) NBA Live bundle (haha) wouldn't do as well. Those big games of well recieved franchises coming in the box for free definitely help; especially for people looking for a reason to make the jump to a current gen system.

Yeah, not every game out there, but a known franchise or even hyped new IP (Titanfall) will do the trick. So you don't exactly need TR to help the sales, Xbox has many alternatives (The Division, Rainbow Six, ACV, CoD...)

Yeah I agree. I just assume that Tomb Raider will be easier because of the exclusivity deal they have.

Heck, now that I think of it, I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the deal. PS4 has a bigger userbase but MS would be paying for digital copies inside new XB1 boxes on top of potential PS4 sales which may have been very attractive. I don't know though (just assuming) -- we'll find out in a few months I guess.
 
I am not sure if this has already been posted, so I am sorry, but I haven't read the entire thread. I dont know if this adds any fuel to the fire, but I was reading some of this topic today, and I remembered a specific topic on GAF at the beginning of the year.

4 posts into that thread, people began noticing that Quantum Break was NOT in the 2015 Games Showreel Video. But you will see in the updated OP of the thread, that Phil Spencer did say "There are some games missing from the vid. All up 2015 looks to be a great year" Whether that quote meant that there were still games to be announced, announced games that were still coming simply weren't in the video, or both, who knows.

It was definitely interesting that one of 2015's biggest hitters, Quantum Break, was not in a video advertising the big 2015 Xbox One Games. The thread definitely had a lot of concern, and that was nearly 2 months ago!

Yesterday there was a post on Xbox Wire that talked about their 2015 games and Quantum Break wasn't on it, dun dun dun.
 
Timed exclusive or not, MS snatching up Tomb Raider 2 is looking like the best thing they could've done.

They would be in deep trouble without it.

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Like I said before, if they can't get it out in August or September then it needs to be delayed to 2016. October/November will more than likely be very packed.

How so? They seem to have pretty crowded Fall (in a good way) even without taking QB and Tomb Raider 2 into consideration.
 
Xbox' fall lineup is fine, but it can only be crowded with some unannounced titles in my eyes.

Halo is fine, Forza is fine, TR is fine, but overall it's a bit meh.

I recognize that Forza is a good series, but if you're not into racing simulators like me, it kind of means little, although diversity is always great.
TR was such a meh game, that I'm not super stoked about RoTR. Even if it's a good game, it's kind a just a bleak and brown Uncharted.
Halo 5 is a seller no matter what anyone says, but I personally am somewhat turned off by it since it's reveal, and since the bad taste Halo 4 left in my mouth. I'm definitely curious about it, but it's just another game to me now, not "The next Halo".

Ultimately, Halo/Forza(/Fable) is exactly what is expected of MS, nothing more, nothing less. This is the time in the generation where new IPs help shape the consoles identity. I don't know if I've just gotten greedy, but I don't feel like Xbox One have spawned any new franchises yet. Rather they have just been making mediocre iterations of previous franchises:
Crimson Dragoon, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, Spartan Assault, KSR, and so forth.
And while Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, Forza H2 and now Ori were pretty good, It just doesn't feel like it breathes enough fresh air into the ecosystem.

Phantom Dust, Scalebound, Crackdown, Quantum Break and Ori were the games I was looking forward to from last E3. Ori is here, but all the others are 2016 now, it seems. If they can all even make that.


Perhaps I don't have a right to complain since I don't really own an Xbox One yet, but I have been with Xbox since the OG came out, but now I just don't see a good enough reason to jump ship yet.

Will probably be best to not state anything about the delay of Quantum Break (if true) until E3 when new game footage and announcements will cover things up a bit.

Sony's getting a bit of negativity right now due to Uncharted 4's delay; Announcing a delay for Quantum Break sometime soon would take a bit of the spotlight off of that; MS needs all the help they can get right now if they want to catch up.

The true battle was never Tomb Raider vs Uncharted. We've read the manuscripts wrong!

It was Quantum Break vs Uncharted.
 
Microsoft are probably more open to delaying one of their big games now. Could be any of them.

Tomb Raider was always bought because they didn't have an action adventure title.

That's absolutely right.

I think the delay is going to happen.. And now that Uncharted is going to miss it's original schedule, it might even be good for Microsoft to have QB to counter U4 during Q2 2016.

Yeah, exactly -- delaying Quantum Break might be a good thing now since it definitely fits the same category as Uncharted 4. Would be good to save it for whenever Uncharted 4 releases.

It seemed like the vast majority (any comment I've read on the issue) assumed MS put the ring on Tomb Raider because they wanted something to compete on the same level as Uncharted. Uncharted v QB? They aren't even remotely similar on any aspect outside of being 3rd person games.

Both of them are cinematic third person action adventure shooters. That's close enough.

Both third person cover shooters with light platforming elements. Both action adventure games. Both cinematic. That's close enough for most people. They aren't really in different genres.
 
I thought the point of delaying was to give Remedy time / move it out of the way of bigger titles. You guys want to put into direct competition with Uncharted 4 though?

Pitting Quantum Break against Uncharted 4 might actually help its exposure in this case.

EDIT: If it were going up against a third party release I'd be more likely to agree with you.

The system would need something to compete -- especially if the majority of its 2016 exclusive lineup will be during the second half of the year.

October/November-like onslaughts usually don't happen during the early months of the year. I think it would be fine. Would be even better in terms of the game's attention if Quantum Break gets better reviews too.

While I don´t agree with some of your above points. We just don´t know if some of these games will be 2015.

We don´t really know about the Quantum Break rumor and about the other 3 we just know nothing.

We got a CGI trailer at last E3. (which we also did for Sunset Overdrive at E3 2013 and a year later the full release)

Not really, environments and gameplay matter more for people. QB gameplay depend on using time manipulation powers, that alone makes it significantly different than any other game out there. Plus the environments of both are very different (Modern City vs Jungle/forest)
 
They probably cut the TV show out since that makes no sense and then they need too add alot too the game insteed wich takes time.
Maybe the game was short like The Order and they wanna avoid the same backlash.
 
Just now saw this. Kind of expected but I would've liked to play it this year. If they need more time though then they should absolutely take it.
