PAL Xbox Originals via VGA and HDMI

I downloaded Psychonauts the other week from Marketplace, since I never played it and couldn't find it in any gamestore.

The problem was that I have my 360 hooked up to my TV with the VGA cable and when I tried to play Psychonauts I got an error message saying "The VGA AV cable does not support the Pal-50 setting required by this game" (this isn't limited to downloaded Xbox Originals, but I also get the same error message when I play other Xbox games) so I had to drag out my component cable to play.

I just ordered an Elite and I am wondering if any gaffers know if I will get the same problem I have with the VGA cable when I use the HDMI cable?

i don't think there's a problem with the HDMI cable.

I'm pssed off about the VGA cable though, I use it too, and can't be bothered switching cables anytime I want to play Halo 1 or 2, or any other older games for that matter.

Ok thanks. It's such a hassle, and I'm surprised MS hasn't put in a disclaimer about it in the item description on the Marketplace, since there are people who use their 360 with a monitor.

Also I'm surprised the problem even exists since it's only on PAL 360s, when the game is a digital download and the game is running through emulation..

There's a generic disclaimer somewhere on Marketplace about it, but they could be more specific.

The problem is due to VGA being 60Hz and certain PAL XB titles being 50Hz only. There's no real way of fixing that in the emulation.

P.S. Halo 2 runs OK in VGA, the only thing I needed the other leads for was while downloading the map packs.

Isn't there a trick to stick a your 360 in 60Hz mode via another connection, then put the VGA cable in? I think there were a few games this worked with.

Also: I use HDMI and no problems with XBO.

Sorry for bumping an ancient thread, but I've just come across a sort of related problem.

I recently managed to pick up an unused XBLA compilation disc (friend bought a replacement arcade unit a while ago and ended up with 2 copies so gave me one of them). Everything seems to be fine except Feeding frenzy. I tried to play it and it gave me an error message:

"this game does not support PAL-50. Please change your display setting to PAL-60"

Problem is, I'm using an Elite over HDMI and there is no such setting to change.

I tried setting it to 480p and back again to 720p so I can say "no" when it tests 50hz mode and asks if I can still see a picture (effectively forcing PAL-60 mode). but no dice.

Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on a fix/workaround? Any other arcade games that do this?

Stick in composite cables, set Pal 60, stick in HDMI cable, set video back to 1080p (or whatever your native resolution is) and enjoy your game.

There is and I'm quite surprised that it still hasn't been fixed.

Anyway, plug in your 360 once in with composite cable (the yellow cable). Then go to the display settings, choose widescreen and PAL settings --> choose PAL60. Then plug back in your HDMI or whatever HD cable you were using.

This will fix the older "only PAL50" games.
