God of War III Remastered Soon on PS4

Seriously if this is amy more than £10 then fucking lol.

Who Would have thought pre launch that we'd be seeing the platform holders having to use HD remasters to prep up their first party release schedules.

This is great for people who haven't played it, but I'll pass on this remaster. I'm interested to see if they make it look any better on the PS4, though, since it looked amazing on the PS3.

The Last of Us
Tomb Raider
Sleeping Dogs
Halo 1-4
FF Type-0
Saints Row 4
GTAV
Darksiders 2
DmC
DMC4
Tearaway
Now God of War 3

Surely I am forgetting some.

Tearaway Unfolded is a remake, not a remaster. You can't straight port that game to the PS4 without changing the core mechanics of the game. The game will also have 50% more content than the Vita version.

FF Type-0 shouldn't count either since that never came to the US. So outside of the importing crowd, every person who bought the game will be experiencing it for the first time.

Guys, even Nintendo has been doing their share of remasters. Remasters aren't going anywhere, IF you don't like them then don't buy them.....I'm sure B-teams are being put to work on these anyway.

I want certain remasters (Warhawk), but I dont care for God of War, and am a little disappointed that they would do this when they've already done GoW 1 + 2. It's just so fatigued.

What would you estimate the ratio of remasters vs. new games this gen to be?

Whatever it is seems to be too much. There's nothing wrong with remasters because the consumer isn't forced to buy them but I get tired of seeing these pushed out when I bought a new console to play new games. I just beat most of these titles less than 5 years ago, why should I pay $40+ to do it again? I could understand if we were talking about a long dormant IP but God of War 3? Tomb Raider?? The Last of Us??? Things are getting a little out of hand in my humble opinion.

The good thing though is that I can just ignore these and put my money towards new stuff.

Remember last gen when we had three remastered games on one disc? I miss those days.

it's as if remastering a ps3 game is harder work than remastering a ps2 game.

i'd rather have the trilogy, but it is understandable why a contracted studio can only remaster a single ps3 game.

Well, just some examples:

Tomb Raider Definitive, comes with all DLCs, 50$
Sleeping Dogs Definitive, comes with all DLCs, 50$
The Last of Us Remastered, comes with almost all DLCs, 50$
Master Chief Collection, comes with Halo 1-2-3-4 and ODST if you purchased it before a date, 50$

Even if GOW3 will launch for 40$, the price will be simply awful, because excluding a couple of skin, there's no additional content to propose it with.

You could get Last of Us for $20 pretty quickly after launch. I imagine the same will be the case here. Who really cares about the launch price when it drops so quickly?

Rumored:

But Nintendo doesn't force you to buy them like evil Sony does.

If you are complaining about not enough new games and too many remasters and you are also one of those people that complain about "too many indie games", you are a goddamn embarrassment.

There are two things you all are going to have to deal with this generation, like it or not:

1) Remasters. There are many, many more to come.
2) Indie/smaller games eating AAA's lunch and filling a large gap in the lineup.

To be fair. Their remasters are incredible and 2 of them were games from n64 era that really were the meaning of remastered

One of the best experiences I've ever had playing a game but I really can't see myself playing through it again unfortunately.

Considering how GOWIII came out originally in 2010, I'd say this Remaster has more..."soul" than many others we've seen so far (I mean, it's not a game released on older consoles and re-released one year later remastered...but it's also true that there was the GOW Saga on PS3, including the two - great - remastered versions of GOWI&II on PS3...this one doesn't even have Ascension included!).

Still, it's not a problem. Remasters aren't a problem per se: they can be great for those who missed some specific games / series for many reasons (like age, or having other consoles and not being able to buy the one with that specific game / series). I think what can be troubling is seeing so many remasters being announced and released when compared to the overall retail releases, especially when, so far, first parties have been quite lacking on both PS4 and One, especially Sony (even if, next week, there's Bloodborne, and that'll be great!). I suppose that's what can be considered as worrying, not the existence of the remasters themselves.

Great post. I think people overreact remasters like they won't get new games -_-

Because games remaster themselves, right? Press SQUARE to remaster.

They're contracted out, and pay for themselves several times over. Impact on team is minimal to non-existant.

And as you can see, the vast, overwhelming majority are new games.
But if you count only real games (ie. remove the small downloadables and indies) you're left with what - one new title per month?

Aww does that mean Ascension is out of the question?

Is it still coming?
The person I talked to works at an internal Sony studio (no longer have contact with him) and told me "GOW:A - PS4" was a thing in one of their metrics listings. This was a good while ago. I would think they'd rather package it with this remaster than sell separately...

Why only God of War III?

Why not go all out and give us a God of War: Remastered Collection that includes all God of War games along with any spinoff in existence regardless of being on PS2, Ps3, or Vita.

This is one game that really doesn't need the remaster treatment. It's already gorgeous. And it's not like Ascension, where you want to open it up to a new market because no one played it. Everyone played this.
Every PS3 exclusive should get a remaster considering the large amount of PS4 owners who only owned a 360 last gen. Even if the game was already gorgeous to begin with.

This isn't just for the people who already have the games on PS3 it's also for the people who are buying PS4 who never had a PS3.

This.

I never got round to playing it on the ps3 and it's not on the PC so will gladly bite.

You shouldn't and no one is saying you should.

I feel that every time some people hear the word 'remaster', something in their brain is triggered that doesn't get triggered when a new release is announced. So to them it feels like remasters are being announced more than new games, when in reality you're brain is just focusing on the one type of release that you don't agree with.

That's the best theory I can come up with for why there is so much hyperbole in this thread. Lol.

Never been too comfortable with the GoW series, but I've never had a problem with remasters, so yay for it existing I guess. Might play it if it'll hit PS+ one day.

Particularly if one of those games is getting a brand new title on the PS4, like in God of War's case. Sony have to build the fanbase for these titles to brand new players to the series.

Ascension is probably in this bundle. There is no way Sony is not going to milk it that game, and be satisfied with one release only. I expect MP too.
