Somebody said to use the whip for AOE and cane for CQC and go at it like you're a member of the Belmont clan. I really like that way of thinking. That's going to be my initial loadout when I start playing.
The cane is essentially a long sword from other Souls games. Light attacks are swings, strong attack is a stab, great for closed areas and single targets

Whip can hit multiple enemis and has higher range so it's also great for enemies you don't want to fucking touch

After getting through that part with the mob hanging around the burning beast (central area) and facing two large wolfs on the seemingly bridge-like area, do anyone know if there's a lantern nearby that I can unlock? Currently only two I have is sickbay and central area.

There aren't many lanterns. You unlock shortcuts so you can get to the advanced areas from the lanterns you already have.

So what's peoples opinion on health vials at the moment, love it, hate it, not a big deal?

Has anyone come to a point where they want to continue on, but can't because they are all out of vials, and are instead forced to farm an earlier area for 20 minutes to stock up on health items?

If you have, do you consider the health system a step back, especially from Dark Souls 1 - which is the one I consider the best of the Souls games in this regard - or did the farming and collecting ad something beneficial to the experience or improve on anything compared to previous games?

The area behind the
gate in the Cathedral ward you unlock with the seal, is beyond insane. The goddamn shotgun NPC there wrecks me silly. Should I try Old Yharnam first?

Yes, it appears Old Yharnam is the easier area. I was doing late Cathedral Ward and beyond for hours, having skipped the easier area. :P

how the FUCK do you beat
the blood starved beast. I've been fighting it all goddamn day, parry him constantly, take off huge chunks of damage, and then the thing just jumps out of nowhere and takes me from full health to full poison and a sliver of life and i instantly die because i cant even heal it. Someone please tell me there is some kind of trick. I'm using the pistol and the kirkhammer by the way

You need to make sure you are fully stocked with antidotes and blood vials. Try to stay behind it as much as possible before the "blood explosion" and the poison intensifies. Once that happens you need to stick and move. Get in, hit him a couple times, then move away to let the poison bar go down. Always be ready to dodge if you see him leap toward you. It also helps if you have a faster weapon. Slow weapons don't do well in this fight.

Also, my guide on USgamer gives a bit more detail: http://www.usgamer.net/articles/blo...ld-yharnam-and-defeat-the-blood-starved-beast

is this a game where your weapons lose dmg over time?

i swear when i started i killed the first guy in 3 shots, now its taking 5 shots, same guy..

If your weapon breaks then the damage is cut. Otherwise you don't lose damage. However, attacking from a distance can cause your weapon to do less damage, and the lower your stamina the less damage you'll do.

Yeah I'm just helping other people with this fight because it's so fucking good. I love the area you fight in, and love that he's basically just a souped up hunter using the same moves you are with that one exception. It doesn't hurt that the fight gives me major RE4 vibes.

How do I help people? Where can I find the bell and how does it work?

I played this from 10.30 till 3.30pm before I had to go out, even though I should have been working

Started off really struggling and dining all the time but I slowly got better.

managed to kill Cleric on my second attempt, as I wasn't aware there was a boss where I was heading and was not prepared

Where too next? I am lost lol

Thematically, I think they're cool. You're a hunter and you have to hunt for resources. It's a neat concept.

However, gameplay-wise, I (so far) prefer the Souls mechanic of basically giving you the same tools every time you start over. In Souls, you can get stuck somewhere and die over and over, but you can learn to manage your estus in each encounter. In Bloodborne, it's possible for you to start with no healing items and no bullets, which can be grueling.

Definitely not a bad change by any means, but I think I prefer the old way currently.

It's never been unfair, really. In areas where enemies don't drop them, it's intentional, ensuring you can pass and are regaining health when you can.

The times I have run out were times where I, stubbornly or not, was repeating areas that kicked my ass, and I probably wasn't supposed to be there.

I never mind exploring while I farm, so it was a non-issue for me. I discovered tons of paths and items while retreading my steps. It was almost never work.

I wish I had some sort of stratedy for leveling up. I keep plunking down points in strength and endurance like in previous Souls games but I think I'm fucking it up by doing it that way. This game forces you to play it the way it wants you to play it not the other way around.

how do u repair the weapon if it breaks?

Wait I thought that in Old Yharnam
the Black Church set stopped the dude from gatling gunning you. He's still shooting the fuck outta ma.

I gave her more than 10 solo attempts and half a dozen failed summoned for co-op attempts. Then I realized I must be in the wrong area.

My damage was pitiful

I love the concept, but so far not really a big difference. Healing is plentyful in every souls game, imo. Dark I being the least, surprisingly (since the game always gives you healing items when you die or rest)

Yeah, I love boss fights against characters that more or less fight with the same toolset you have. Human-ish bosses are so much more fun than big monsters, in my opinion. That goes for most games.

Well you'll be happy just fighting the other regular hunters that appear from time to time. They sure can move!

OK, quick impressions and I need some help.

The game is glorious. The jaggies are there, but they aren't very distracting during gameplay. CA is a bit too much, but the art is so good, SO GOOD. As is level design, combat, music (holy crap this soundtrack <3) and setting. I love talking to every character.

Now the help: can I use
blood stone shards
at will or are they difficult to come by? I want to improve my Axe, but, as awesome as it is, I know it won't be my main.
Also, should I use my
coldblood dew
for more
blood echoes
or should I save it for crafting or something like that later on? I remember spending the bosses' souls in Demon's and deeply regretting.

And an OT help: my PS4 seems unable to download anything over WiFi. It's been bothering me no end. I can't use wired internet in my living room, so I have to choose downloading (in my bedroom) or using the home theatre+projector. It works for online gaming, Netflix and for all the other devices in the house, but not PS4. Even wired it's been flakey for downloads. Does anyone know how to possibly improve it?

Oh, and thanks to all that added me =]

im so upset, my ps4 just randomly disconnected from my wifi and the game threw me back to the title screen. lost a lot of progress

That sucks...but doesn't this game save after every action like the Souls games? So I'm pretty sure you still have all your Blood Echoes, items, etc.

I asked this earlier but didn't see a response. Concerning the time of day in the game:
it went dark, will it ever get light again or no?

Use the shards. They're only used for +1 to +3, from what I've seen so far. I don't think the final upgrade is gonna call for 80 of them and make you regret using them on weapons you don't main. :P

I'm about 50 hours in and it's only gotten darker. :P

Health vials are fine as is if you're playing alone. You'll get a ton and always have 20. It's sucky for co-op in the early part of the game though. I was summoned about 5 times and had zero successful boss kills. This meant most of my consumables were gone and I had no blood to replenish them. This probably won't matter later in the game when you're swimming in blood.

Got to the second boss and died lol. Definitely not as easy as the first one. But I'm sure it'll be easier once I get more consistent with parrying.

Enjoying the game quite a bit so far. It definitely doesn't feel as stressful as the Souls games that's for sure. The combat is relatively speedy and it's a lot of fun quickstepping around crowds fishing for hits or landing gunshot parries. I need to use the weapon transformation more, but I picked the Hunter Axe and I usually end up killing everything before I really consider it. The charge attack while it's two handed is awesome for cleaning up mobs though.

Those load times tho... Hope they can fix them cause I hate them already.

yep. that's a souls game. easy guy with torch can fuck you up fast... was doing so good -_-

those two big beast wolfs fuck me up every time.
