Speaking of comedy!

Am I the only one that despises Rove and Hamish and Andy >.>?

Bleh.

But I used to watch the late show, it was pretty great. The most memorable stuff was the stunt dudes though.

Oh, and I hate the Chaser too >.< I liked them but now they seem up themselves. I dont know.

Anyone remember The Comedy Company? I loved that as a kid...

No, all 3 suck.

Rove was MUCH better on Channel 9, and Hamish and Andy were only remotely funny BEFORE they tried the 'American humour'.

I'm praying our dollar creeps back into the 80c range so I can start importing PS3 titles again.

I have a history of saying terribly inappropriate things about Rove and getting in trouble for them. So I should probably stay quiet.

Rove is horrible.

I remember one time we were watching Conan O'Brien, and my cousin said "This guy is just an unfunny Rove." I nearly punched her in the face.

You didn't host Cheez TV and alude to Rove being gay and then get fired did you? :lol

:/

Australians are dumb.

Actually, I think a lot of these shows are designed for a much younger audience, but some sad, uninelligent older people watch/listen without knowing this. Rove is basically a 'kids' presenter, just in a PM timeslot.

If you want intelligent television, you have to stick to SBS and ABC most of prime time, and HDD late night gems on the commercial dumping ground.

Or just play games instead, Deadly Creatures is surprisingly gripping and classy, reminds me very much of Metroid, just with linear progression. Kinda funny how a little game like this to me is much more enjoyable then the big name Madworld was.

Were you using PlayAsia before, or somebody else? Because I'd be interested in hearing about somebody else... :D

Sadly, no.

Basically, I made a comment while out drinking to the effect that Rove's show would have been cancelled if his wife hadn't died, and kinda said that she...uh...was like a sacrifice to save his career. And it turned out that one of the people I said it to kinda had a connection to Rove and Belinda, and while I didn't get, you know, beaten by Rove or anything, it was pretty uncomfortable.

I could have worded it better, but I still maintain it's true. His show was rating terribly just before she passed away, and would have been canned by the end of the season, if not earlier.

Was there a more awesome show then Cheez TV when growing up? I mean what do they have like it now - some shit with girl and guy host always in Dreamworld? Rollercoaster on ABC with that dorky guy?

Nothing compares or will come close.

BTW one of the reasons they got canned was because of the latter seasons they were naming characters on there show inappropriate (but funny) like dickwad.

Heres last episode:

Awesome.

The networks still have those horrible contract deals where, say, channel 7 people can't show up on a channel 10 show, don't they? It's rediculous. Imagine if the American talk shows had to deal with that.

Afternoon Show with Michael Tunn, and before that with James Valentine. And - this is a pretty fucking regional thing, but nevermind - the Saturday morning kids show on Ballarat's Channel 6, before Channel 9 even made it out there, which was hosted by Glenn Ridge.

Even saturday cartoons has gone to shit. FFS I used to get up for Saturday Disney Cartoons and all that is on there is shit like Miley Cyrus or somethin :lol

Poor kids of today.

I was, them and eStarland. eStarland was generally cheaper, but took longer to ship because they're based in the US.

I felt EXACTLY the same way.

But I don't know if you ever saw Rove in his early days on Channel 9. MUCH funnier. Also much more low brow and less obvious "try hard" humour.

Depends on whether they're 'contracted' or not.

I see people cross networks all the time.

People from 10 have appeared on "Thank God You're Here" on 7. And people from other networks appeared on it when it was on 10 also.

I've seen network people appear on Foxtel shows too.

I think it depends on the individual doing the crossover. For example, I don't think you'd see Sam Newman appear on a Channel 7 Football show. But someone like say Jason Akermanis, who ISN'T contracted to 9, could.

Peter Hellier and Dave Hughes have basically been carrying Rove for years now. So was Corrine Grant, until she decided to leave the show. Meshel Laurie and that other chick do alright as well, as do Hamish and Andy.

Well Comedians and general Footy players certainly can, I mean something like a star from Home and Away showing up on Rove or something.

Yeah, I vaguely recall seeing it, but I don't remember much of it.

I get the feeling his show is on the rocks again. But, to be fair, I don't really watch TV at all - don't even have my set top box plugged in at the moment.

(Mostly I just play Peggle XBLA, hah. It's become a weird house obsession: both my housemates, and anyone who comes around plays it. We're almost done with the challenges because we are awesome up the wazoo.)

fuuuucccckk i hate the radio. I hate nova, i hate ryan, monty and whipper whoever the fuck they are on nova. They are not funny at all.

Bring back t martin please mr radio, i want something good to listen to while im at work.

The best days are when the boss forgets to turn on the radio, The silence is so much better.

I like Hamish and Andy, and I respect what Rove does.

I like Nova's breakfast program, but I HATE B105's. They have Camilla (formerly of Big Brother years ago) and two doofuses called Lab Rat and Stav. Ugh.

Ah, the best days of Australian "childrens" entertainment was the early 90's saturday morning double of Xmen and Ren & Stimpy.

Cheez TV was great though.

Yeah I noticed that the other week when I was waking up pretty early for awhile and my younger cousins would watch cartoons in the morning. I said to them that I felt sorry for them and they just looked at me with blank stares. They had obviously already passed over.

I preferred the afternoon cartoons anyway. Stuff like Babar, Tintin, Superted. That was the shit.

I usually get into work and catch the last 30 mins of nova's bfast show, I don't mind it now that ed is on it :lol .

For the rest of the day though nova is just terrible.

Oh and is anyone going to see the new aussie horror flick with nat bass? Yeeea baby nat bass. We love her here at work, not so much for her music and tv showing hosting abilities :D

I'd let her do her hosting duties on my TV show, if you know what I mean...
because she's really popular and her presence on the show would attract stellar ratings!

My primary school did A*mazing... when I was in grade 6 and couldn't compete >:(

I couldn't even be in the audience, since they only chose those kids who had participated in something called Tournament of Minds. That sucked, since I was smarter than any of them and could play Bubsy and the other games with one hand tied behind my back.

I believe Rlan posted some amazing footage on youtube in another offtopic thread .. i could be wrong though.

But that show was awesome. And of course, who didn't sit there going "Fuck these guys suck, i could WIN this damn show with my awesome donkey kong skills <insert other game here> "

Maybe i was the only one :/

I was going to ask what city you're in, but it sounds like you don't have much say over the station. Pity.

I haven't listened to the radio in quite some time. I mean, it helps that I work at a street press magazine, so new releases are coming through pretty consistently - I'm certainly more up to date than I was while working at a Next Byte. Still, unless you're in Melbourne, there's really nothing interesting going on in radio these days.

edit: with the obvious exception of my girlfriend's show on Radio Adelaide. Ahem.

Yeah, I used to get pretty irate at the lack of gaming skills displayed by some of the contestants. At the time I knew I could handily beat their arses at DKC, Mario Kart and whatever else they used to play.

A girl I know still has her red bandana from when she was on the show :lol

I did a studio tour when they moved the filming here, went in the Maze :D

Hmm.. No mention of Triple J here in a discussion about radio stations? I'm surprised.

It's the only station I can listen to without going crazy. Any other commercial station drives me to commit murder in under 10 minutes.

Triple J makes me want to stab myself in the cock these days. Back when it was Mikey and Helen on breakfast and then Paul and Mikey and Tunnie in the evenings oh man. Those were the days. Now...not so much.

I was saying the same thing when it happened. When the current season they were working on ended, there were strong murmurs of the show being cancelled due to poor ratings. Then the death and it was back. Was in high school then and every seemed to have an irrational love of rove, didn't make sense.

I can somewhat agree with that. It certainly seems it's been constantly going down hill for a number of years now. They keep losing their top presenters to commercial stations (which I don't blame the people for, everyone likes money). Adam and Will on the breakfast show was incredibly awesome, Jay and the Doctor was also pretty good. The afternoon guys (I can't remember who they were now) were great also. But the current dudes they have for morning and afternoon are pretty mediocre at best.

But then I remind myself I'm probably just getting old and having trouble moving on. There's probably nothing wrong with the current crew. I'm just old and bitter.

i used to hate the afternoon slot but i've become a fan of Hack with kate o'toole when im driving home from work. they always keep it pretty interesting.

From the 15 minutes of Triple J I listen to each day on the way to work, and the other 15 minutes coming home, they seem alright. I'll never listen to any other station, so it's either Triple J or nothing.

Also, PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

It's pronounced You-Toob. Not You-Chube. There is no "ch" in "tube". It's tube. Like Boob-tube.

Fuck those munts who pronounces "tube" as "chube".

I agree. Triple J or nothing. Even the mediocre presenters on Triple J are a gazillion trillion times better than anything else on any other station.

I used to have to listen to Triple J in the morning and then in the afternoon for my commute. Then I sold my car, caught the train instead, and ended up buying an ipod. With no radio in that thing I've slowly been weened off radio. It hasn't been easy, but now I don't particularly miss it.

Podcasts have actually been my replacement.

Just started driving myself to work this week and LORD it's nice not to listen to breakfast radio every morning. I miss talking to the wife in the morning on the commute, sure, but the thought of one more traffic report, call in and advertisement for the local pisshole will drive me to suicide.

And I'm too old to start listening to Triple J again. I don't recognize any of the music on Triple Z. Music kind of stopped for me in 1997. Oh well. :)

Oh I'll be on 96.5 in Brisbane in a few weeks I guess.

I'll take nothing, whats on my iPhone ftw.

All this talk of triple j and no mention of john saffran? That guy saves my sunday night shift at work every time. Despite the constant repeats, his and father bobs ramblings are always interesting/funny. Plus he (not undeservedly if you have seen john saffran vs god) hates Rove with a passion.

I think Rove is a complete tool really. He is unfunny and his celebrity interviews are painful to listen to because of how awkward and obviously scripted they are.

They usually go something like this:
" hey heres this totally unrelated topic, what do you have to say about this?"

"Wow what a coincidence i have this entirely craaazyyy story about that exact topic"

*cue five minutes of pre planned jokes*

I like Hamish and andy though because they are genuinely funny guys. I lived in the same apartment building as Andy for over a year and saw him a bunch of times. Real nice guy, always said hey when we shared an elevator. One time i wrongly claimed that he was using our booked spot on the buildings tennis court and he still got off. Wasnt until later that i realised that we actually booked it for the next day :p As a side note i just wanna say that he is actually a pretty good tennis player and that Megan Gale is hooooot

I haven't really listened to Triple J since I was in High School, when I used to listen to Adam and Will doing breakfast every day. Any time I've listened to it recently, it felt like they were trying to cater to a much wider audience so the range of music they were playing couldn't really cater to anybody. Plus I don't know who any of the people on it are anymore.

I stopped listening to the radio ever since the following:

Martin & Molloy finished their duet

Three Hours of Power was moved from Fridays to Tuesdays and Kosta was replaced

I occasionally listen to ABC FM for the news and some Classical.
