I've been running with the Axe lately in Cathedral Ward. 2H charge attack is indeed deadly. I also put a gem on it that increases damage by 7.7% and another couple percent depending on my health (don't recall where I found it) so I've been steamrolling.

Anyone know what key/item you need to unlock the door at the top of the tower in the church ? Also has anyone found what is up with that locked door near a chest in the south part of the cathedral ? I progressed quite a lot since discovering them, but they are still locked.

What does softcap mean? Should you just get all stats to 25 then if they are all capped at 25?

Diminished returns.

Once you go above 25, you get less per point spent. 50 is the hard cap IIRC, so you get nothing when one putting points in over 50.

Finally, a boss is giving me some trouble.
Martyr Logarius is kicking my ass.

Yep that thing destroyed me countless times and I'm level decently. After close calls but failures it was getting late and I needed sleep. Tried a summon and go it, we barely won but we FUCKING WON!

Ones with the room of pots before each? Ya don't know myself.

That's what I've decided to run with tomorrow (UK peasant here).

Is there a better starting gun to use? I'm leaning toward the blunderbus for bigger close quarters damage/staggering

Blunder is really only for crowd control imo. The pistol can do "parry" setups much easier and doesn't have a slight delay.

Good man. I'm almost to the 9th boss and I've been steamrolling everything with the power up attack.

I used the pistol as opposed to the blunderbuss so I don't know. I assumed that it's easier to stagger bosses with the pistol but I haven't put that to the test. Choose whatever one you think is cooler and you should be good

Question? Should I stick with threaded cane with skill or use hunters axe with strength. Which is the better?

Join Team Axe. You know you want to.

Seriously though, the axe is a great all purpose weapon. Strong single blow attacks, and it's charged attack is a pretty devastating aoe attack that'll multi hit even a single target. Great knockback/stagger also.

So I am stuck trying to kill the
turret
guy. He kills me way to quick. Should I just grind blood echoes to level up and then destroy him?

This is what i did:
Lock on him while still climbing the ladder. Then shoot until he falls. If he is still at the ledge he will fall. To get his loot just exite and load back.

I must've just gotten really lucky when I fought this guy. I summoned the NPC helper in the graveyard right outside and used fire paper, whittled him down to roughly half health. Then, I caught him in a classic pattern where he'd lope up to me and try to swipe me and I'd shotgun him in the face, stagger him, riposte and then he'd lope back up to me again. I think I had nine quicksilver bullets left when he finally died, but once I got into that pattern, the back half of the fight was kind of relaxing actually.

Yeah Im probably just bad at it lol. I've not heard of this NPC helper, nor can I get anyone to answer my bell, but Im not sure Im doing that correctly either.

Okay, 4th boss
Vicar
Amelia

What is that faint glow that she does sometimes? Not the healing prayer but the thing with the same sound effect as the health regain by attacking.

does Father G not give any souls? I didn get any and I dont see any stain on the floor :/

After the softcap of 25 you get less benefit per skill point invested in Str, the hard cap is 50 after which you get next to no benifit.

The softcap for Str, Skill, Arcane and Bloodtinge is 25 and the hardcap is 50.

The softcap for vitality is 30 and hardcap 50

Endurance has no softcap but its hardcap is 40.

Stumbled upon another boss while trying to find the Cleric thing again, lol.

It was that Father guy from the beginning. I only managed to parry him once for some reason, so he kinda wrecked me. Didn't have any items either. But it was mostly the terrain I struggled with, so many tombstones. :(

Thanks. Well I'm gonna be looking to parry as much as possible so the pistol may be for me.

OK thanks. I'll bow to your better judgement and use the pistol myself.

Counting down the minutes to launch here in the UK. Been forced to start early at work tomorrow as well. Gonna be hell.

OK I just watched ENB walkthrough #3 and he address it (Concerning the little girl looking for parents side quest).
It looks like if you don't give her the broach she won't just go into dispair and you can send her off to be safe.
NOOOOOO

EDIT: I was wrong, I was so excited I didn't see the out come.
She dies on her way to the church
Wow this game is dark.

I really wish stuff like this was at the forefront a little (or a lot) more. I know a lot of people like this kind of unforced or hidden storytelling, but I feel like more traditional execution of arcs and tales like these could do a lot for the game. I didn't miss all of that, but there comes a point where stats, mechanics, loot, and standard videogame stuff (getting to "the next boss") forces progression and downplays these vague little interactions, interactions which give the world more character beyond being a stunning labyrinth of encounters and boss rooms.

At bloodstarved waiting for help. This summons business is a waste of insight. I wasted at least 8 insight with no results. Time to solo the game i guess.

So, I returned to the 2nd boss area and
there was a hunter fighting Alfred (I think) and Alfred didn't make it through the fight. Anyone know what will come of that?

So at 1am I beat Father G with my last molotov but he dealt a killing blow at the same time. Prey Slaughtered and You died showed up at the same time, it was bittersweet.

I really don't know so many people could miss the Cleric Beast, seems like the most straight forward path to take at the beginning.

'Cause there's a giant fucker looking to bash your skull in with a brick and feed you to his crows. I saw that and thought I'd look around elsewhere first.

Some help with the third boss?

PSN : KI-Heisenberg

Can you join each other directly using PSN names/friends list?

Well the game is meant to be social (discussing outcomes with friends) and to be replayed (to try new builds, new game plus, challenge runs) in order for all of its content to be peeled back like layers of an onion

How many blood echoes does helping someone out against a boss give you? I definitely need to level up after Ive spent all my souls on a new weapon, armor set and upgrading my sword. I'm still at 21 and the mentioned above cost like 72k echoes lol. And the boss I'm tackling is an ass.

I honestly do think the cane is the best weapon in the game. And I'll whip you to death if you disagree.
Jokes about Castlevania aside, it really is a fantastic weapon that is incredibly versatile. The sharpened cane form of the weapon is perfect for quick, high damage strikes against single opponents that are close, and the whip form is amazing for crowd control and striking multiple enemies at once, as well as being able to hit more powerful enemies from a safe(er) distance, while still doing high damage. The forward+R2 jump whip attack does a lot of damage, it's just awesome. Can't wait to get a fire gem for this thing. I've got it upgraded to +4 with some Phys Attk and Charge Attk buffs along with health regen.
