So this guy just tried to break into my store while I was inside.

I usually don´t sleep in my small anime store, since I do live in an department with a nice bed and a great shower, but last night I decided to stay since I was feeling too tired to go home and I also wanted to play some Citizens of Earth, since my Wii U is in the store too.

So after a few hours of playing I went to sleep, and I notice my bunnies (Yes, they live at my store too, they are great for sales) jumping around all scares, waking me up. I stand up and I look around and I saw this guy just fiddling with my locks trying to force them open. My door is a glass door with a wooden frame, so I could see this guy clearly trying to open it. I notice he hasn´t realized I am inside yet, so I stood up and approach the door and without thinking twice I just knock on the glass.

He looks up to me, I could only see his eyes because he was using a cap and covering his face with his jacket. I ask him "Que pedo wey" who is spanish for "What can I help you with, jerkface". The guy intermediately hides his tools, picks up his phone and walks away like nothing happened. I heard him say something like "He was here". I don´t give chase since I didn´t had my keys with me and also because I was not going to risk been stabbed to an asshole who can´t even say hello to the guy he is trying to rob.

I called the police, told them what happened and soon enough they came in. Now, here is the weird part. The only ins and out to the place I am in are accessible to people that either work for the complex or are store owners, they guy also knew how to avoid all the cameras and went out using the roof stairs. Of course by the time the police was here, he was long gone.

Personally, I am not scared nor angry right now, I´m mostly extremely curious. Who is this guy? Do I know him? I know I have seen those eyes before but by the life of me I can´t figure it out who he was. What worries me is that is most likely someone I know, or someone who is supposed to work for security. Of course it could also be someone completely random who found a way to break the locks that goes to the roof, since the roof is really not that tall (Just two floors tall, really). Its also not the first time they have broken into stores around me recently, it happened to two other store before. And I have also noticed how my locks have been getting some damage the last few weeks, but they are GREAT locks, they have to be since they are pretty expensive and they can take a lot of abuse.

So that is how I reacted when faced with adversity, just knocking on the door to scare him away and not trying to catch the guy and honestly I am not one to chase criminals.

What would have you do in my place GAF?

I would sleep in the store and if you catch them again call the police before approaching the guy at the door. also buy a gun.

Guns are illegal in Mexico. And sadly I have a trip tomorrow for Semana Santa (Easter week? Its a big deal here) to see my family so I can´t stay back, I´ll have to cash in on a favor and ask a friend to keep an eye on the store for me.

I love this so much.

The fact that he said "he is here" shows he probably knows you, or at least his accomplice does. Could someone want to rob you?

Or maybe they just want to steal anime, Idunno

Move your Wii U out of your store so if they break in, you still have that.

I would have said nobody would be dumb enough steal a Wii U but then they were trying to rob an anime store so anything is possible.

Maybe he was really after the bunnies.

or maybe he meant he is here, as in the owner is here

bigger questions is why would 2 people rob a small anime store

Sounds like the guy (and his phone accomplice?) have been scoping out your store and will most definitely be back to try again. Probably after looking from a distance this time to try and verify that you're gone.

Not sure really what you can do without watching the place 24/7 now. Put some more security measures in to ensure that other nearby targets are easier and thereby more appealing?

Install a camera inside facing the door. Make it very obvious, so anyone trying to break in see their face is being taped.

Also, if he avoided the cameras and entered through the roof, he obviously knows the place very well. He either works there, got tipped by someone who does or scouted the place extensively during working hours.

He'll definitely try again, so you'd better take some preventive measures. If you have the budget, look into a security alarm. You mentioned your store is inside a complex, so you should talk about that with the landlord and the other storeowners.

Well, my Wii U is here, so are my games and my full collection of Amiibos (Who are even harder to get here on mexico, since we get the same stock as the USA minus the rares). I can think of a few reasons why they would break in . Also someone stole my launch Wii U about almost two years ago, but I am positive it was someone completely different, since that time we got him on camera and looked nothing like this guy, sadly we never found him. It was that incident that prompted me to get better locks, the ones I have right now cost my about $100 bucks and they have yet to break into them, and I know they have tried before because I have seen the damage they have unsuccessfully done to my door. They have yet to try breaking the glass, I guess they might think it will make too much noise, since there is supposed to be a security guard working all night around here, but today I haven´t seen him yet and when I went to look for him he was not there (The security guard is really fat, so it couldn´t be him)

Yea, buy a gun and shoot them in the face instead of knocking on the glass next time.

Cause this guys really seems to be such a threat that he would attack you after being discovered.

Stop with the amateur hour bullshit, your bunnies are obviously the best security you got, put some lazers on their freak'n heads and let them loose.

Someone in Amiibo GAF has obviously been casing your store.

I open carry in my store so i would of told him he's on camera and if he doesn't want me to call the police get the fuck away from my store. Might not be an option for you or you might not feel comfortable carrying but i have had people attempt to rob me before and i house very, very expensive electronics so people tend to thing they can make a quick buck.

The best thing i can tell you is get a security system hooked up with cameras and it kind of amazes me at how many people don't spend the extra money to do this. It's not THAT much of an investment and it puts your mind at ease when you aren't staying there. You can also have it setup where you can monitor your store live from a computer/phone/tablet and be alerted if anything happens like a window breaking, door being kicked in etc. If you live in an area prone to this kind of stuff i recommend maybe putting some bars up with a gate to close over the front at night, it's a little expensive but again it's your business and you need to protect your shit.

Seriously, get a security system put in today.

Guns are illegal in Mexico. And sadly I have a trip tomorrow for Semana Santa (Easter week? Its a big deal here) to see my family so I can´t stay back, I´ll have to cash in on a favor and ask a friend to keep an eye on the store for me.

You should still get a security system in place before you leave and if you can't afford the bars/gate just do the cameras/alarm for now. Don't be a fool protect your store.

Nah, set the bunnies free they'll know what to do.

I'm impressed you kept your cool during that. I don't know what I would have done.

Wait, there was supposed to be a security guard and he was nowhere to be found? You really should take action beyond installing better locks. That guard is either very incompetent or might be in cahoots with the robber.

You need to talk to whoever managed the place about this ASAP.

Actually, guns are not illegal but it is a lengthily process to buy one since the only legal gun store is in Mexico City and you need to fill some paperwork to get permission from SEDENA, read Article 10 of the constitution comrade, you have the right to own guns. I wouldn't recommend it though because SEDENA doesn't provide you with any training or handling of guns and also our laws protect criminals and prosecutes law-abiding citizens, watch Presunto Culpable and you'll see why I say that.

Back on topic, install security cameras inside your store so at least you have video evidence and hope the burglar doesn't come back again.

Again, guns are extremely illegal in mexico. Also, have you seen The Holy Grail? Bunnies are serious business. (Thanks for the tips)

Bigger bunnies.
Give the guard bunnies a raise.
They are eating their favorite lettuce and carrots right now, they will grow in no time!

Do you have security cameras in your store?

Yeah I have been putting off putting a camera since I was confident with the one the building already had, but it seems like I have to do it, or at least DO something. I have a friend who can set me up, so I´ll be calling him later today.

It is a big problem, my store is in downtown, and even if it is in the most secure zone of it, its still prone to this situation. I am trying to contact my landlord but no luck so far, I guess since it is a weekend. Oh well.

My amiibos and Wii U are going to my house for my vacation, that is for sure.

I know how you feel, OP. Used to work at a small games/anime store that is now since closed and we had one successful break-in attempt, then a second unsuccessful one. First one was just some dumb kids probably doing it on the spur of the moment because they only took a bunch of random games and DVDs, second the would be burglars had duffel bags.

Luckily, after the first attempt, we had counter-measures in place. There were apartments behind the building, and a friend lived in one of them, so we had a baby monitor in the store and the guy heard them in the first hallway, and came around with a baseball bat as they were getting ready to go through the door into our store and they immediately split and left the duffel bags behind. Police ended up catching them though, since they were on foot.

That is a great documentary, you are right. I didn´t want to elaborate about the gun issue in Mexico, so the easy answer for me was that they are illegal. I also live on Tijuana, so that makes it extra hard to make it happen. I also don´t really like guns, my uncle has one and it really creeps me out, the weight and feel of it is disgusting to me. He lives on Guerrero so there is that too.

The security guard was nowhere to be found? What a coincidence. What are the odds he told the guy to go rob the place that night?

Knowing people are gonna rob me, I would bring a big dog with me if i'm gonna sleep in the store

Something preferably like this:

Holy shit is that a dog? I´ll be more scared having something like that inside my store, to be honest.

But... huh... he is kinda cute.

The whole bureaucracy behind owning guns legally is so absurd that they might as well be illegal I agree on that and if you feel uncomfortable with guns definitely don't get one, owning a gun is a big responsibility, also our laws are unjust and adding a gun into the mix will only escalate trouble for you. Install security cameras and a alarm ASAP before going on vacation because that's the ideal time for burglars to rob stores.

You should have said something with "It was me Dio". That'll scare him... or perhaps not.

"You were expecting me to not be here, but I was waiting for you, I, Dio!"

Judging he was robbing an anime store he might had get the reference.

This too, I have no faith in our system, like, at all. I had a hammer ready in case someone tries to rob the store when I open, but it really is not an option when you hear stories like robbers who successfully accuse the people they were trying to steal from when they defended themselves.

Sounds like you need to hire a ship girl to defend your store! I'm glad you're ok and I hope it all gets sorted.

Make sure that you stare at peoples eyes directly into their soul whenever anybody comes into your store so you can match it up to the thief. Their soul I say!

Sorry to hear that you had a possible break in though. I'd definitely up security. Maybe add some more locks or something? And cameras facing the door.

You in Tijuana, broski? Where's your store at? We've been getting some pretty crazy robbery stories over here near el Parque Morelos.

Some dudes tore down the wall of our restaurant's kitchen not too long ago just to get in and steal some mundane crap.

Can you recall exactly at what hour it happened? It seems to be obvious over here that these dudes come out at a very specific time when the piggies aren't patrolling, so they're likely to have an inhouser giving them the scoop.
