Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Oh, yeah, I know about chronological order (Contact Harvest, Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx - will all the time anomalies and some in-between chapters). I just wasn't certain about release order for those two.

Right, I should have worded that better. I was wondering about release order.

I think all three Nylund books would make for a killer trilogy, but Onyx ends in one hell of a cliffhanger, heh.
It goes Reach/Flood/First Strike/Onyx/Harvest (order of release date)

I don't think they're trying to hide the kidnapping. I think they're actually trying to push the narrative that Insurrectionists kidnapped him instead (then they could claim they saved him from them and he became a soldier because of it since his planet/family was glassed).

Interesting... I like it!

Am I the only one who think that Chief
is searching for the Forerunners to save Cortana? We know they experimented a ton with expanding life through digital means so they have a ton of knowledge on it. We hear Diadect at the end of Halo 4 talk about how the Forerunners are coming. What if Chiefs quest he finds them and somehow unleashes war with them, thus why Locke views him as a traitor?

Cross-post from the Halo Lore thread, since this is also something I was thinking about and there's no way I'm retyping it again lol.

[All Hail the Conquering Stream]: Shadows and Foreshadows

In the Origins videos, we are given a scene in which Master Chief stands before the Gravemind. This is somewhat similar to the scene we know from Halo 2, but... at the same time... it's entirely different.

rwCS2dIh.jpg

He's not ensnared in this scene. He's standing, and free, as if he were conversing on his own volition, and not as a captured audience.

And then...

EoJ74oBh.jpg

...Gravemind gives Chief Cortana's chip. This is an entirely new piece of information that certainly was not in Halo 2, nor is it in any other piece of Halo literature to date. Is this Cortana's estimation of how Chief rescued her? Is this just simply a matter of creative license? Or is this a foreshadowing of something that hasn't happened yet?

naXqkxph.jpg

Chief still holds her chip, as of the current. But...how did he come to have it? The last we see of her chip, it was digitized in the console that Chief had inserted it into. He never had time to remove it, and thus it was presumed to be lost.

Here is Chief inserting Cortan's chip into the final console. There is no visible animation of him removing the chip at this point:

And here is Chief about to remove Cortana's chip, but the console is digitized before he can grab it:

kk3TSgVh.jpg

So where did this new chip come from? Is it possible that Chief will have a rendezvous with a new Gravemind at some point in Halo 5? Could his quest to resurrect Cortana lead him to align with The Flood to suit his own means? Could this possibly be a piece of what drives a rift between Chief and ONI? Perhaps he goes AWOL because they find out The Flood is back, and that a new Gravemind has appearaed.

During Cortana's time with Gravemind, it is very likely that pieces of her, or a copy of her, was assimilated in The Flood's collective conciousness.Could this be a piece of what Halo 5 will be about?

What I took from both of the new trailers is that Chief does something that will be both good and bad, depending on who is viewing the choices made. It will be of great importance, but it will also be of great destruction.

Let's review the text from each trailer:

Locke's Trailer:

TO THE STATUE: "All hail the conquering hero. Let us remember him as our protector, and not the one that gave us... This. As our savior, and not our betrayer. Let us see him forever as you..."

TO CHIEF: "...And not, as you. All hail the conquering hero. The one who was supposed to save us all. But now I must save us... from you."

Chief's Trailer:

TO THE STATUE: "This... Is this what you wanted? Is this what you were looking for? Was everything you compromised; everything you've done... Worth it? Was it?"

TO LOCKE: "You've completed your mission, Spartan Locke. Mine... Is just beginning."

Both videos are nearly mirrored in their progression. Both Locke and Chief first speak to the statue of Master Chief (THE IDEAL), and then they speak directly to the figure laying below the statue (THE REALITY).

This raises some questions:
-What would be the dividing line between being a savior and a betrayer? To what extreme would one need extend to cross it?

-What does Chief compromise? And why does he question if it was worth doing thus?

-If Chief's mission is just beginning, then this massive rift has already occured, and is what will lead to a cat-and-mouse chase across the galaxy. It's entirely possible that Chief rendezvous with the new Gravemind, is given Cortana's chip, but then is double crossed and The Flood end up attacking this locale that is featured in the trailer. Chief then goes AWOL, and ONI sends Locke after him. The ensuing fight/escape causes the crack in Chief's visor that we see in the E3 video, as he is now long gone and on the run, seeking answers. Perhaps what he receives from Gravemind isn't complete*, or cannot be accessed, and he needs to seek out Mendicant Bias or some other Forerunner construct and/or device.

*There's also the other fragment of Cortana that possibly hitchhikes into the Ur-Didact's ancilla repository:

Perhaps he needs both pieces of her?

i found out something really interesting

in the trailer locke throws his rifle to the ground in the mud, while Chief holsters his rifle..

i think it shows that Chief is still a much more disciplined soldier than Locke?

what do you guys think

Well, if you think about it, for Locke killing MC would be the end of his mission so he doesn't need to worry about fighting anymore signifying that he views MC as the only threat. MC on the other hand mentions that this is the end of Locke's mission but that his is just beginning. Clearly signifying that Locke
is a nubcake and
should let him handle things because there are bigger fish to fry.

Is this game going to have the shitty Forerunner weapons?

I sure hope so because the Light Rifle, Incinerator Cannon and the Binary Rifle are freaking amazing. I absolutely love these weapons and hope 343 doesnt give into peer pressure from people that dont want change.

Light Rifle is at least confirmed for MP. And it's actually pretty rad! About time it got buffed. I'm sure the other Forerunner weapons will be back. Except for Boltshot. That can go to Hell.

I hate these weapons, they were totally overpowered in Halo 5. Also the Incinerator Cannon was just a reskinned version of the Plasma Launcher, which was way more fun to handle.

wut? Incineration Cannon wasn't in Halo 5's beta. And it sure as shit wasn't a reskinned Plasma Launcher.

Nah, the plasma cannon was entirely different. It tracked with those slow moving plasma charges that were easy to avoid. I think the incenerator cannon is a decent weapon, given it has limited ammo, because of the splash damage. The binary rifle was some bullshit though. 1 shot kills anywhere on the body with a long range? GTFO.

If it had a clip decrease, it wouldn't be too bad, but a fucker can do a lot of damage with one of those. It's a 6 shot gun right? Cut it to 4, and I wouldn't have too big a problem. Those lights that show you were it's pointing is handy though.

Ooops, meant H4

The model was just a reskinned Plasma Launcher. The shooting mechanic was boring and totally random. Plasma Launcher was the perfect weapon to bring down vehicles but have a hard time against players, something that was missing in the weapon sandbox. Another AoE Damage One-Hit Weapon besides Rocket and Fuel Rod is just not needed

The plasma launcher from reach felt awful, the incinerator cannon is nothing like it.

God the forerunner weapons were a ton of fun minus the bolt gun.

Question.

Is there any other hype, quite like Halo hype? I'm not so sure.

Also, It's really nice to see so many people excited and optimistic for Halo's future. I myself loved Halo 4, but for a while people seemed to have given up on investing there time in halo's future. I really wish there was a way to tell the percentage of people who just didn't like Halo 4 for it's multiplayer. Because, while i like both it's easier for me to understand how fans could be dissapointed in the multplayer side. The campaign however, I thought was fantastic.

The Plasma Launcher has been the series' best anti-vehicular weapon I've ever got to use. The Rocket Launcher throughout has been fine, but when tracking is taken away, it makes the Banshee become a bit more dominant which should not be its intended role. It should always be a support vehicle, but when Bungie/343 pushed in the fuel rod blast it became incredibly powerful. And dulled the gameplay, for that matter.

The Incineration Cannon's blast radius was much larger than any version of the Rocket Launcher that's been in MP. All the new Forerunner weapons felt completely redundant and in many weapons super powerful just for the sake of it. Like the Binary Rifle's one hit to the shin kill and the mini-Shotgun, aka Boltshot.

I loved the campaign and multiplayer but the randomization thing with ordinance and weapon drops was terrible design. That and the ranked structure was very poor (its been poor since the awesome halo 3 ranked system imo.)

The game was great it just had competitive issues.

It should also be a one shot then reload weapon like the Incineration Cannon. Can't wait to see the other Forerunner weapons after the Light Rifle.

This. I loved the plasma launcher from reach. Probably my favorite anti vehicle weapon for BTB across any Halo game. It was designed to be an anti vehicle weapon, so the fact that it was easily avoided on foot means that it worked as intended. Though it was satisfying to hit people with it who weren't paying attention. They need to bring that weapon back!

Yeah, I liked it more than the Hydra they introduced. Which is basically a UNSC version of it.

it was really great for its intended role. fit much better into the sandbox gameplay than the spartan laser, which was much too powerful.

Spartan 4

There's no specific word that that's true, I don't think. I still think he'll be something quite apart from bog standard Spartan IVs; the most advanced suit and perhaps adult augmentations ONI can throw together. He is hunting *THE* Spartan, after all.

Didn't like the Hydra, but after watching Quinn's montage with it, maybe I'm just using it wrong.

Yeah, I liked it more than the Hydra they introduced. Which is basically a UNSC version of it.

I really liked the Hydra though the maps and situations we were using it in were less than optimal. I want to see how effective it is as an anti-vehicle weapon.

As far as vehicles go, I wonder what the Warthog will sound like this time and if the Mantis will be returning. I personally want Hornets back.

Master chief's journey is just beginning according to himself in the trailer. But wait.............

What about the multitude of times he has saved humanity already over the past few years?!

This is no coincidence that he says this. 343 made him say this deliberately.

Leading me to believe that this is the incorrect version and the Locke trailer is true.

His mission is just beginning, clearly it's a new one. :P

According to the Halo wiki, The Spartan 2 kids were conscripted sometime in September of 2517. The number next to John's name is 0901-07122517 so I assume the numbers there can be translated to a date somehow. His birthdate should already be known to the reporter.
