Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

yo but really though uh

where's the fire emblem part of this too

is it just supposed to be the visual designs for stuff like outfits and robo-unicorns or whatever the fuck?

this crossover thing is so bizarre

Hmm, just finished the direct. Forgot it was tonight lol but anyways.

What the hell happened? This looks....very different and, well...kinda skeevy. I reckon this is the par of the course but still WTF!? :(

That is what I was thinking. Lucina was it.
At least get the fan service character.

No. Similar reactions would've probably happened.
You would've just gotten more "why was SMTxFE canceled for this garbage?" rather than "why was SMTxFE changed into this garbage?"
I want to say it's silly to do when we know so little too, but then again knowing so little is why people are reacting so strongly to what was shown I suppose.

Honestly, I'd be a lot more interested at this point if they didn't lay so heavily on with the fanservice.

And made what was happening... More followable.

I'm still having trouble processing that this still exists, even though I kept believing. I was ready for anything from this, except it not featuring any characters from the respective series. I'll wait for more info before I make any more judgements.

Perhaps those NPCs had dialogue so they weren't silhouettes.

Hm, good point.

We'll see. I don't think it'd be some huge cost to make a field with regular walking around NPCs in a city area (I mean compared to the things they're already clearly spending money on based on the trailer), so it's hard to imagine they'd really try to just make them silhouettes in that area to avoid the work of making detail NPCs. I'm going to bet there's some story reason for it :D

Remember everyone:

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Reveal:
"ITS FUCKING DONKEY KONG" "Retro wasted their time on this PoS"

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Release:
"David fucking Wise!!!" "Best Platformer ever!"

Super Mario 3D World Reveal:
"Looks like crap" "They put crappy 2D Mario in 3D woopee"

Super Mario 3D World Release:
"This game looks amazing!" "GoTY Material!"

Hyrule Warriors Reveal:
"This game looks like a PS2 game!" "No one asked for this"

Hyrule Warriors Release:
"Theres so much content!" "This game is so fun!"

Dont get too worked up. This always happens.

Oh, got sure. No one will shut up about this once they really start to push it.

P5 has a stronger art style
P5 has no J-pop
P5 doesn't spend half the trailer showing girls with a giant cleavage
P5 seems to be going for a "thief" theme. This other game seems to be going for an "Jpop Idol" theme

I understand all of that, but I get the same "anime" vibe from both, except that P5 is channeling this 70s TV show theme. Honestly, I like the art style for the SMT x FE game better. But this stuff is all subjective anyway.

I do want this game and I will very likely get it but I do have to admit that this is not what I expected when I first saw Shin Megami Tensei back at the original announcement. I was hoping for more of a dark apocalyptic looking atmosphere. Admittedly there may still be one, who knows when that footage takes place in game.

Yep, this entire gif seems to be taken from the same battle turn.

Interesting. The first and second character to attack, are also on the party on the right (and I assume their class is Lord and Pegasus Knight, going from the icons), but the two after, the girl and the red haired dude are not, and the blonde (archer) guy don't attack. But on the top bar, it looks like it's the blonde guy's turn right now. I have no idea of whats going on then xP

1. GAF is not a singular entity.

2. The absolutely ridiculous user interface with things cluttering up the entire screen in Xenoblade X and buttrock music in that trailer didn't exactly have me dripping with excitement..

I meant in general. It's just weird how once someone expresses a sentiment everyone jumps on it and goes along with it, instead of discussing everything and trying to understand some context and get the bigger picture of the game. Lol.

I mean I understand a lot of people are on here, and many are just leaving comments in passing. Idk. It doesn't really matter too much.

The game looks interesting at least, I was hoping for more of a Fire Emblem feel to it, but I'm definitely interested in seeing where they take the game. I've been waiting for it for a long time :P Hoping for something good.

The original name sounds so much better though. You have SMT X FE name branding there. Should have at least decent sales.

But now they change the name to some revelations stuff then uh oh............

Really surprised at the backlash. Yeah, I'm not sure what this has to do with FE right now but it looks very much like an SMT spinoff and, despite the fanservice, there are interesting things going on in the trailer.

I'm not sure exactly what people were conjuring from the static stock images we had in the first trailer, but the last FE was a legit waifu fest and this clearly takes place at least partially in Tokyo with demons. It was never announced as a grim-dark mainline SMT game, but at the same time that is mostly what Atlus tends to give us anyway.

Worst case, I'm guessing, is that it is as silly as DeSu2 and as much fun to play.

huh, so this is what they meant by fire emblem characters appearing.
will at least admit I'm not a fan of her design here..

Tiki herself appears in the trailer, not only in that poster. It's based on the young Tiki though, rather than Awakening's.

The official site indicates we'll see more FE characters revealed later too. It doesn't sound like we're getting SMT characters though...

The original reveal used the "Shin Megami Tensei" title even in Japan, where it's basically only used for mainline games. This re-reveal uses the "Ibunroku" title though, basically placing this in the same category as Persona and Devil Survivor.

I don't know, the look at that top bar seems to indicate a "press turn" like mechanic given how much space is between turns, Maybe the combos lead into that? Once again, going on the little we have.
Or probably something ATB like? hopefully there'll be more gameplay mechanics reveal, at least during E3 later
The exploration GIF in here also applies to dungeons too.

Kiria is a pop idol in the game and the song we hear in the trailer is "Reincarnation", her no.1 single.

Didn't realize the song title is mentioned in the trailer. Will rewatch later

I'm curious to how the gameplay will work. Is it your standard traditional JRPG? Dungeon crawler like Persona? Or is it still a SRPG but instead with arena battles?

I will admit I was hoping for traditional dark SMT, but this seems different. I like that its a new IP.

Pretty much. And just yesterday, some people were sure the game was canned.
I wonder how many will say they wished it was canned now lololol

So you're saying...there's a chance for Lucina? :D

im gonna go with the fantasy stuff is just virtual reality crap
real world is classic SMT
bunch of bullshit happens and the two worlds slowly combine

Honestly if it wasn't for the really generic? common? looking style and the horrible, horrible music, I'd probably be really excited for this game based on that shot of the ruined city. I really like the idea of subversion but if that's the case they went a little too far with the trailer.

More than just a chance, she WAS in the initial reveal... which honestly doesn't mean much itself, but I would expect them to include as many characters as they possibly can.

It feels like their trying to make an original SMT game (spinoff) that is based on the concept of FE actually existing in the SMT universe.

Its pointless to wish it was canned. I wish it was different but its not like this is an established series they did a 180 on (and then betrayed everything the series stood for). Some people will no doubt like it.

The other two people that attack could very well be Personas or Demons or whatever they will be referred to in this game.

It's not necessarily just a cost choice. It's also an easy way to make a scene look more vibrant with less effort when it would otherwise be filled with a few types of background characters repeated. It's not an uncommon method in anime either.
