Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

I think we can safely assume this game isn't suddenly going to change art style between now and when it comes out or suddenly transform into a top-down perspective turnbased SRPG.

Which, again, is totally fine by me!

They stated when they first announce the project, that is was a full fledged RPG not a top down or srpg...which I think a lot of ppl were not aware of.

Edit: i researched the hell out of this game two years ago, and I kind of already envision what type of game it will be. I knew we would not be having Marth and Aleph(SMT2) in the same party. cuz it just wouldnt work.

Honestly I'm glad it became its own thing instead of just mashing characters from both series. This has the potential to become a brand new RPG franchise for Nintendo and yeah the anime stuff is gotta take time to get used to but I think it will be an amazing game in the end of it.

But no sales to back it up, considering the platform is Wii U. I think it's more an one time thing. If the platform was 3DS, it would have had more chance of succeeding.

Of course this depends on future trailers. Hopefully one that actually attracts people new to these franchises.

That's the sad part. Anyway I believe this game will be awesome.

I do wonder about the Japanese release. Winter 2015 is just Q1 2016, right?

Nerdy as hell but whatevs; story wise, trying to put the SMT protagonists in the same game would be a bit of a writing boondoggle. There's a reincarnation theme that keeps on popping up as far back as the original Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei games that would make it a bit weird.

There are some theories about SMT II's Aleph and Nocturne's Hijiri being the same character reincarnated based on some flavor text in the Labyrinth of Amala. And I have similar thoughts about SMT IV's Flynn and SMT I regarding what happens in the neutral endgame. And so on regarding the "Megami" of the title and certain women that have appeared alongside the MC in certain manline games.

Not that I expect that to affect #FE much. They could treat the present characters as reincarnations of FE cast members, and that'd be interesting. They could also introduce Makai/The Expanse in a number of ways to justify the appearance of Awakening heroes and villans. SMT II's Makai had a number of SMT I cameos, and that'd be a perfectly sensible way of tying the franchises together, in a sense.

We still know too little to know exactly how this is going to work. But there are ways, yes.

Should be from December to the end of February about.

It can be, like when Atlus stated that Catherine was releasing in "Winter 2010", but that really meant February 2011. They probably don't want to release this too closely to Persona 5 despite the different platforms, if anything.

Even new Persona fans aren't used to this level of skeeve, even if P4 Golden did begin to touch on it with the added content.

To add on this, I'm not really sure why so many people are insisting it looks like "Persona x FE" when Persona itself has never really been like this.

I really love P3 and P4, they're some of my favorite games, but I really didn't like the added content in P4G or the spin-off games, let alone this.

There is Majin Tensei, if you're willing to burrow into the old games. There are many things about that short subseries, especially with Majin Tensei II: Spiral Nemesis, that seem like an almost perfect fusion of what mainline Megaten's become and permadeath-riffic Fire Emblem. Including what I've been spoiled of the extremely difficult neutral ending.

The options for playing those games in english are pretty, uh, not so great now, but I have faith it'll get better in time.

Devil Survivor's easier to acquire in the meantime, and probably closer to what #FE will eventually shape up as. Though I really do expect #FE to be more its own thing and almost impossible to predict what it will become, with what little we know right now.

Hmm... I realized that I never touched Majin Tensei line before....

Yes that seems to be the case. Well not that it matters much for people outside Japan. I don't think the odds of Persona 5 getting a NA/EU localization before 2016 are that great.

Everything is 2016 :(

I tell you what, once the devs shows "Marth" and co fighting a Jack Frost and/or an Amala Network Drum the salt shakers will clam right up.

Umm did you not play the best selling fire emblem game?
The only Fire Emblems I have played are the 2 western-released GBA games, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. I really fell in love with the series with Path of Radiance and it's imo the best out of the four games I've played. So no, I haven't played the 3DS version (or maybe DS?) which I assume is the best selling one. But even though Fire Emblem seems to have the very much used Japanes style going on, it's still far from that crap shown in the trailer.

My big disappointment with this direction, overall, even if the game turns out to be good in the end, is that I was really looking forward to SMT's past protagonists being handled as non-silent characters with personalities of their own. It'd be interesting to see how they'd handle that for once, but this direction pretty much means that won't happen.

I don't get why Atlus never features past heroes aside from the Persona 3/4 crew. They even seem to ignore it as DLC in SMTIV and DeSu2, even though it'd likely be more appealing than the random stuff they offered.

They actually have. Most are just quick cameos, but atlus has writers have done novels and drama cds for most of their series( Demi Fiend's a gigantic asshole)

Goes with the territory. He's the most fired-up guy with the strongest and most unbreakable back. He can do whatever he wants.

From this thread i've gotten the impression that this is what gaf thought the game would be, like tekken vs street fighter or something.....
I'm really glad its something totally unique, so excited for details on the battle system

I'm glad we got a new, hopefully good and long lasting series out of the collaboration rather than something like Project X Zone. I still expect the Hero, Heroine, Law Hero, Chaos Hero archetypes. We have Tokyo. Religion doesn't seem to be much of a big deal to Nintendo anymore.

The idol theme might actually be how they get around that.

I've come to understand that even among fans who started the series with Persona 4, many started at P4G and assume that the rest of the series has always had the identity of that game's added content.

From a purely visual perspective there's also nothing Persona about this trailer, its aesthetics are drawn from the same stock as Devil Survivor and Compile Heart games.

They took SMT out of the title of the game, I wouldn't expect any of that.

.

P4G was not the first Persona game with skimpy costumes and Beach scenes lol

That trailer piqued my interest way more than just a straight SMT/FE SRPG would have. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy both SMT and FE games on their own, but who really wants a 50/50 crossover? I'd much rather have something unique.

That's not even what I was talking about! But yes, FES added costumes as part of the re-release, that kind of thing used to not appear in the original game releases and isn't really a central or even notable part of the series DNA.

Devil Survivor 1 has that in pretty defined lines in spite of no "SMT" in the title. Even DeSu2 also has characters similar to the alignment representatives in spite of the game's atmosphere being generally light (and the atmosphere is light in spite of the
entire external world being destroyed...
).

I hadn't thought about it before, but I hope they keep something similar to the alignments - I really like the overall story concept of "changing the world" rather than just "saving" the world.

Considering that the Fire Emblem Radiance duology had a goddess of chaos and a goddess of order fighting it out, it wouldn't be out of line for the Fire Emblem series either.
It would be kinda cool to see Ike show up as the Chaos Hero. Maybe the Black Knight as the Law Hero?

I'm actually way more interested in this game now. I don't really like the historical setting of Fire Emblem or the grimdark setting of SMT; other than the idol stuff, the trailer reminds of Persona/TWEWY in tone (also the FF13-ish jet-pegasus is awesome).

Is it safe to assume that the main cast transform into the FE-like characters? I'm pretty sure the parallels aren't coincidental.
Black-haired boy <-> (non-demon) Marth-like guy?
Schoolgirl <-> pegasus rider woman?
Red-haired guy <-> other red-haired guy?
Questionable fashion sense lady <-> Lyn lookalike?
Mystery blond girl not in the trailer <-> blue-haired archer?

The digital-looking background and weird blue stuff on the ground in the final Tokyo shot looks intriguing. Some sort of virtual reality plot point?

Demon Marth?

Is that... the Falchion (Awakening design) on his hip?

Okay, I'll bite, in what ways does this remind you more of SMT over Persona? Also not just the anime visuals, little cues like the blocked out NPC(white in Persona 5 and multicolored in this game) the Jpop soundtrack, the highschool setting. So far I definitely get Persona over SMT.
Never said it reminded me of SMT, it barely reminds me of either. But your points make no sense. In P5 the NPCs were fully detailed aside from their faces outside the classroom unlike the single colour NPCs of IR#FE. As for Jpop, I don't know how the hell you got that from the P5 trailer as it had an acid jazz inspired track. So that leaves the high school setting which we know nothing about. we don't know whether you will actually attend like the Persona games from 3 onward or if it is limited to the beginning or cutscenes. So it's really not that similar to Persona compared to other modern jrpgs.

After watching the trailer again and again, Its really the j-pop that kills everything, if they had choose another music, something more mainline SMT or FE, it would have been better

The SMTxFE collaboration title was technically announced at this point, but I wonder if this is what was being talked about (discussed in the Persona community thread):
Kenichi Tsuchiya (Atlus Composer): Not just the games that have already been announced, but there’s also an unannounced title which surprised even me. Look forward to it!
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=810643

Technically, this game wasn't announced at that point, either. There was also a reference to an "innovative, unannounced RPG" that they hoped fans would be receptive to—as it would be different from previous Atlus games—in a recent interview.

Oh damn, I learned something new today! I didn't know FES was a rerelease, I always thought that was just P3 lol -___-. That's what I get for just getting into Persona like 2 years ago when I played FES on the PS3 PSN haha.

Wouldn't see the point when it's so far removed from both. If anything, it fits what they did decide to go for.

The trailer is so full of idol related stuffs that I think J-pop is the only choice for this trailer, SMT or FE music just doesn't work.
