Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

So I ventured into the forbidden woods.
I managed to open an elevator right near the lamp that gets me back to a good spot, but I'm confused as hell as to what to do. There's a few gigantic snakes, some snake guys, and regular snakes. I killed many but they're never ending. I ran beyond them and faced some straight up aliens, lol. Some sphere killed me with a laser though.

What am I supposed to do? Kinda lost.

my rule of thumb there is always head lower. eventually you will find this creek with pigs. At that point you are close.

Yup completely my experience. I just finished the game with an Arcane build. Was extremely disappointed to hear A Call Beyond is useless. Executioners Glove is the only good spell in the game. And it's not worth pumping Arcane to 40 for that. Empty Phantasm Shell is shit, so few enemies are weak to arcane it isn't worth it at all. Rosmarinus is only so slightly better than the Flamesprayer, it's ridiculous. The Flamesprayer also has the advantage of being fire element, which a lot of enemies are weak to and you get it comparatively fairly early in the game. I wouldn't even call the magic situation mediocre, it's complete shit.

This game has the illusion of choice. In the end you're either STR or Skill because physical attacks are the only thing that matters.

Not exactly. Bloodtinge gun builds are also fully viable. Seen a lot of people post videos where they're doing big amounts of damage with weapons like Evelyn and the Cannon, and have most of their level up points invested in Bloodtinge.

Did it! fucking finally beat it. This was my first souls game and easily one of the best games I've ever played. its kind of a first for me in many ways. I don't usually like long games and I'm not into RPGs but this game just grabbed me. I think I'm going to look at games differently after this. Things like parrying and dodging are going to mean something different to me now. I think I've played so many games that let me spam the attacks that there was never really a reason to master that stuff but after playing this I have to say it feels awesome once you do. I couldn't beat
Gehrman
without riposting so I had to actually learn the timing, which made me appreciate it a lot more once i got it. I pretty much destroyed his ass, which is crazy since I couldn't even get him below half his health for the first few times I fought him. this was an awesome experience :)

I know this has likely been asked 100 times, but just wanting to double check... End spoiler:
I "eat"/"use" the umbilical cords I collected before going out to see Gehrman at the tree, right? I have all 4 cords - do I need to use them all?

F you Defiled Chalice ! I made it through. Took me 8 hours, but I finally killed those 3 bosses. If this can help anyone not waste as much time, I uploaded the videos of my kills.

Layer 1 boss fight

Layer 2 boss fight

Layer 3 boss fight

All I need to complete this game now is for From to fix the damn elevator for Ebrietas. Have they even acknowledged the issue ? Do they have a forum ?

the area can be confusing, but keep exploring, if you found a
lake with fireflies, follow the stream with the pig walking back and forth

I am trying to remember. You should make your way all the way down the path to a dead end. Go back and steer to the right, I think. You should be running into a few pigs.

Thank you all. I'm going to make a run for it tomorrow. I lost 53,000 echos there....ugh.

Would anyone be willing to help me take on the
Second Form Bloodletting Beast
in the Great Ihyll Chalice Dungeon in a bit? It's a complete asshole.

99%, if not 100%, of people doing this are doing it not because of the guns but because ot the Chikage, so calling it a "gun build" is not exactly accurate, more like a "Chikage build." And Cannon's bloodtinge scaling is really laughable that the notion that people are building their bloodtinge for the purpose of Cannon firing is really silly... I mean, D at level 10?

Anyways, speaking of guns,

Do any of you know whether Bone Marrow Ash's effects last forever until you fire the next shot *or* if it's based on a time limit? Because this can drastically affect proper preparation for maximum Cannon shot effect.

Canon's scaling is bad, but the bonus damage from bloodtinge it gets is still amazing due to the canon's base damage. You gain a bonus 120 damage at 25 BT, opposed to 12 at 10 BT.

Probably, but I am perfectly willing to bet that a vast majority, if not all, people raising bloodtinge are doing it for the sake of Chikage. That some of the guns benefit from it somewhat are more of a bonus effect.

laughable? The scaling is meh because the raw damage is so high. I get 5-6 more damage each point of blood I put in and my cannon is only +7, I imagine it would be 8-9 at +10. I want to say Cannon +10 with 50 blood does close to 1k and thats without bone ash. A fully upgrade cannon with 4 shots can finish most bosses once you get them into the final phase (thus avoiding the worse of the fight)

Doesn't Evelyn's do a lot of damage with high blood tinge? Not sure but I thought I heard somewhere

Okay okay I retract my statement about the scaling. It's understandable why the scaling is so bad due to the high raw damage.

I still stand to my statement though that people who raise their bloodtinge are most likely doing it due to the Chikage and not the guns however. "Chikage build", not "Gun build."

Does anyone know the answer to my Bone Marrow question above btw? Hahaha.

Nope. A lot of people are just generally gun focused (often without using the Chikage in conjunction), Eg do most of their damage with their guns. Mostly with Evelyn and the Cannon, coupled with blood bullets and bone marrow ashes.

Are you out of insight? Try popping a madman's knowledge.

I've got 17 insight and I've tried reloading the game. I'm standing in front of the white mist. I was able to call out the first time I got to the area, but no one came so I cancelled and went it.

If you ring it before you fight the boss the first time does it block you from ever ringing again maybe?

No it shouldn't. That's really odd.

Wow, found an incredibly easy way to cheese the 3
hunters in yahargul

Lead them one by one back to the lantern and once you're there, stay to the left side of the door. They'll be stuck on the other side and you can hit them through the wall. I used R2 with ludwigs to thrust from a safe distance

i'm not sure where you are but try walking away from the area immediately before the nightmare fog

I just summoned a NPC and a player in NG+ and we wailed for five minutes on Cleric Beast until it went down.

Maybe the enemies have too much HP this time. Don't really think NG+ is for me.

Will stick to the chalice dungeons until I find something broken inside.

Beat
Rom
today.

The new areas sure are a kick in the teeth but Ill get by. Also
the now fully visible, creepy giant spider things on the buildings
are not doing my nerves much good.

Agreed on the Chicklage part. I dont see many people doing it for the Reiperstach other than for shits and giggles.

Well I suppose so. The finite nature of all the resources (QS bullets, Bone Marrow, etc etc) required for this kind of build to work--at least in a long while--seems like such a pain in the arse though, compared to just typically very low cost of blood echoes required to repair the melee weapons every once in a while.

And it seems to me that guns are mostly intended to serve as an utility tool instead of damage. I give you Cannon can be devastating on bosses though.

Or you can just track back into one of the cells and lock the door from the inside and poke them repeatedly from the inside since apparently they're too crazily-addled and unable to open doors, hahaha.

Seriously though, has *ANYONE* ever defeat these arseholes in a *fair*, non-cheesy way? Not counting NG++++ since Hunters don't scale on New Game pluses.

I found this out too. No idea why it works.

the NPC player does almost no damage, also when he is doing viscerals you cant hit the boss.

What is your damage output I would say you need to be in the mid 300s for skill or mid 400s for str weapons for NG not to work through it too slow.

The Blunderbuss also does ridiculous damage: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=159149749&highlight=#post159149749

Sadly, it seems severely overlooked. At +10 I have things taking 600 damage per hit at point blank, FAR more than any other gun outside of the Cannon, and it staggers and stops just about anything in its tracks. If you miss a parry on it you'll still stop whatever's coming at you. And it's even more amazing with Bone Marrow Ash.

As posted in my link there, the Cannon's +Bonus at +10 and 50 Bloodtinge is 204, btw. So 804 ATK. Though as shown with the Blunderbuss, ATK isn't everything.

Holy shit.

Guys, if you have 99 insight, if you kill Gerhman at the start of new game + while he's in his wheel chair in the cabin....

holy fuck. Mind FUCKING BLOWN.

btw I'm just fucking with you guys, but its funny how something like this could be possible in a Miyazaki game. Like bam, you do this and you unlock a secret area worth 10 hours of gameplay with 4 boss fights.

its fun to use and all but its damage output is not really suitable for some of the hardest stuff.

I think it's fine. It's stab-damage, and some enemies take extra damage from stabs. Squid fuckers, for example, take like triple damage from stabs.

I have Burial Blade and Reiter at +10. I just switch them depending on what kind of enemy I'm facing.

You know the answer to my Bone Marrow question perhaps? About whether its effect last until the next shot (meaning say, you can apply it at the beginning of an area and it will still be there in the end if you don't fire your gun at all) or whether there's a time limit to it? (shoot it in the next ____ seconds or you lose the effect)?
