Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

Wow, a good few hours of progress for me after not getting much time this week.

  • Made it a bit further in the Depth 3 chalice I was in. Defeated the U
    ndead
    G
    iant
(Blade, chain, gauntlet version) that had given me a bit of trouble earlier in the week, and got to the layer 3 boss that turned out to be [as expected] R
    om
. The minions seem far more aggressive than the main fight and the lack of room is making it a bit of a nightmare. Something to revisit later.
  • Decided to finally tackle U
    pper
    C
    athedral
    W
    ard
. Surprised I didn't die before the boss fights with some of the crazy ambushes.
  • The C
    elestrial
    E
    missary
went down quite easy. Just threw some
    poison darts
    after he
    transformed
and then finished him off with a few attacks when he started
    spewing spells
    .
  • E
    brietas
took two attempts, with the first having gotten her down to about 15-20% health. Cool boss, though the second time my camera had a ton of issues and got snagged on bits of the 'arena'. Attacks were all relatively easy to dodge. Was just putting myself in bad situations in being late in some of my own attacks or misreading a move and trying to go in.
  • Checked out the altar and gave up
    that flesh stuff
    from C
    ainhurst
    from the A
    lfred
    quest. I suppose the V
    ileblood
    Q
    ueen
    is
    revived
    then given the text?
  • Looks like I killed G
    ranny
. Too many runs I suppose. Not that it seems the rest there have long if their behavior is any indication.

That'll be it for the night for me. I'll get those fights up online while everything charges, and then I guess I'll check into the throne room at C
ainhurst
before proceeding I suppose past where I fought TOR.

I almost feel like the
Pthumerian Descendant
is more fair than the
Keeper of Old Lords
, because at least you can roll out of his combos and not die at full health.

Still kinda hard. I'm definitely underleveled in this account.

You can combo the Keeper nonstop (or at least until you run out of stamina) with a sufficiently fast weapon that still has decent stun on the hits, like the normal state of the cane. Try folding up whatever big honkin' hunk of metal you're using and just spamming R1.

This works on basically every NPC Hunter (which is all that boss even is) that doesn't have the Djura-style ability to hair-trigger fire their sidearm in the middle of being combo'd by a fast weapon, by the way. For those, you have to be careful and stop swinging if they dash out of an attack, because they're almost always going to quickshot afterwards.

i think the best thing about the last half of the game is the music. Even in the hunters dream i really like it. the sound in general in this game is very good - the only negative really is the crows that sound like dogs from the early part of the game.

Yeah, the music in Bloodborne is great. I think the OST is much better than Dark Souls'.

I fear for that chalice. I'm completing my Ailing Loran chalice pretty soon, then I'll hop on that. *shudders*

I'm dreading that place. Although during first playthrough i didn't do to many chalices so hopefully I will be high level and make it lol

I was dreading them too. You can do it!

Go slow...be cautious. I recommend watching videos on the 3 bosses. I didn't have any problems with the Keeper....but it probably took me 15-20 tries on that damn dog. I think 4 or 5 tries on Amy.

Patience is the key for that place.

Thanks!

I'm at the
Mother Brain now and I don't have the Make Contact gesture. Too late to get it?

Nope, I got it after, just don't kill it until after it gives you the rune. You have to do the gesture for a while until your hands change. The gesture is in upper cathedral if you talk to a body/statue-looking thing looking up at the sky right outside of a big doorway you have to open up.

What type of attack does
the one reborn
use? I tried swapping to my physical resistance set but I still take a bunch of damage. Is it arcane? I can confirm that the sweaty vest doesn't help.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm dreading that place but at the same time cannot wait to get in there. This game is sick I love it

I like the choice of music during the MWN boss. Very eery and cool.

In my hunt for the platinum (I'm one trophy away) I'm about to start the Defiled Chalice. Am I in for some serious hell? :P. Level 150ish

It's tough but nothing insane. At SL 150 you're probably gonna be fine (depending on how much of that is in VIT).

I used 2 vitality runes (5% and 10%) and with the vitality I had, I had 811 health. With that and high defense attire, I could take one charge from fire doggy and live.

God I forgot how fucking great this game was after putting 50 hours into the new Dark Souls 2. Please, just give us some more build variety in BB2. Thats all I ask.

Are you doing Defiled KoOL? what level are you sir?
LOL no, just the normal Central Pthumerian one. Level 22. Started a new account and I'm trying to do all the side content on it instead of stumbling through the main game. Everything there basically takes chip damage.

Definitely going to have to get my weapon upgraded beyond +6 and my level up a bit before doing the Lower Pthumerian Chalice.

Yeah, I feel silly for not realizing this. I was using the extended cleave saw just for the extra range while dodging to the left so the boss couldn't hit me, and the extended version gives the boss plenty of time to counter-attack.

God, A
mygdala
was probably the most frustrated I got with a boss since the first two bosses of the game. In all three cases they were so frustrating for me because the camera was pretty shit, mainly due to the arenas being either too small or too cluttered, or a bit of both.

So strange seeing other peoples boss struggles that I can't relate with. I just beat this girl (?) on my first attempt. I'm having a tough time with M
artyr Logarius
at the moment.

On NG+ and I did about 8.5 million echoes from the glitch. Three bosses in so far. Trying to get that true ending so basically treating it like boss rush.

whoa, I, what, was fighting bsb and kept a pillar between me and it, tracking it, eventually it went out of view and then was nowhere to be found, I was able to run around the arena looking for it... shortly it died and I got the reward. Umm... that was not legitimate, lol. sorry old fella.

Yeah sometimes enemies glitch through walls and fall down to their death :lol

Don't worry, you'll get plenty of chances to fight him in NG+ and Chalice Stuff

Is there a foolproof way to dodge R
om the Spider
's hidden missles attack? Feels like the number of them I get hit by or dodge is super random.

Just be unpredictable. If you just run in a random direction it will guess what your next move will be, so change it up, right left then right then left then right, serpentine etc.

Yah I had like 800 HP for the fight. Wasn't too bad and the charge is fairly easy to avoid.
Cool. Really forward to the platinum, this is my favorite game in awhile.

The guide comes out in a few days, 528 pages. You guys think any bombs will be dropped? I personally think the secrets have been discovered by now -- too many people searching. I guess we'll see.

I have it preordered. Excited to dig into it.

Be forewarned, the Defiled Chalice is still tough. The boss of Layer 2 is arguably the toughest but I don't think it's impossible or anything. Just have to be incredibly patient and memorize it's attacks (it doesn't have that many).

Bombs will be dropped.

At the very least there will be stuff in the guide that people may have been unsure about but will have more concrete data on. Stuff like enemy resistances and hidden properties of certain weapons.

Finished my NG last night and save scummed my way to victory three times. I did the "true" ending first and worked my way back from there, difficulty-wise.

The first time I did pretty well, somehow - I beat G
herman
on my third attempt and M
oon
P
resence
on my second. When I tried for the next ending, however... G
herman
kicked my goddamn ass! must have just gotten lucky the first time, because he seemed much harder afterwards.

On to the dungeons and the platinum hunt!

Which ending did you do last?

Duck and cover, friends.

I suspect we will learn something about Gascione's family we did not know before.

I also feel like there should be a fourth ending.

ENB has been dropping little hints here and there about lore stuff in his Bloodborne playthrough. Definitely think the guide will have lots of goodies (excited to crack into it!)

I made a "save" that is just before the final boss
Gehrman
just because I love it so so so much so I can fight it whenever I want. Did a run just now where I don't use parries at all because I think it makes the boss a bit too easy. Exceptionally thrilling. Absolutely adore this boss.

ive finished the game and i have no idea who that is.

BTW - we need to stop spoilering boss fights seriously. LIke, who cares about the names of the bosses - how is that a spoiler? people are looking up stuff anyways and knowing someone is known as "the Gatherer of Forbidden Dicks" doesnt really spoil the game in any way.

That's a stretch but if there is... holy shit!

Well....

there is still an end game item whose purpose no one has figured out yet.

Seperate Spoiler for item:

Yarnham Stone

ive finished the game and i have no idea who that is.

Just trying to be cortious for people who still want to be as blind as possible. Some boss names can be especially spoilery but I understand your point.

Boss name:
Mergo's Wet Nurse

Oh god this game feels me with such rage. Fighting this boss
at nightmare frontier
with a buddy. I had him down to one hit.... And got one shot. man after this game is done I dont think I want to see it again for a long, long time

Mmhh... I'm wondering whether I should go for an SL4 run of Bloodborne or start DaS2 SotFS (I'm quite curious how the changes they made affect the game).

The "bad" one i.e.
getting decapitated by Gherman
.

But I used the one where I killed M
oon
P
resence
to start my NG+, just so I'd have those souls to use.
Okay good I was worried you wouldn't be able to buy
Burial Blade
if you used bad ending to go into NG+.

Came back to this tonight after a few day hiatus.

It was worth it, finally put down BSB and worked through some new areas, finally getting some double shards to get my whip up to +5. That thing is killing it in H
emwick's Path
. Got to the H
emwick Witch
and I'm thoroughly confused. Only gave it a couple tries, the second one with only one blood vial.

Seems fairly easy maybe I'm in for a tough transformation or something but it feels really good to be making progress again after banging my head against the BSB wall for so long.

Ah, it's fucking glorious.

The visuals, the sound, the thick and bone chilling atmosphere, it's simply incredible.

The combat is probably the best I've encountered in a third person action game. The fluidity, the responsiveness, it's just tweaked to perfection. This is what From have been leading up to since Demon's, it's going to be extremely difficult going back to Dark if it doesn't incorporate a lot of the changes they've made to the combat here.

And the blunderbuss. Sweet Jesus, the blunderbuss is a goddamn revelation. I initially thought I'd hate it, but after using it, I'm madly in love and again, I can't imagine going to Dark and not having the option to using this wonderful beast.

The difficulty isn't as high as I expected though. Not sure if that's my veteran Demon/Dark skills shining through, but I've only died like 8 times in the three hours I played.

I'm glad about this though, the load times are obscene. Where's that patch, FROM?

The enemies are pretty fantastic too, some really fucked up and nightmarish designs.

This is honestly FROM's best game to date. They've not only knocked it out of the park, they've outdone themselves in a way a I thought a developer never could and I don't envy the task of making Dark Souls 3 an even better game...
