Destiny House of Wolves will Have no New Raid

Like I said I never screencapped it. Thats the first picture I found when I searched for"house of wolves ad" but I never read any of the stuff coming out of the leaks because I didnt want to spoil myself and I remember seeing that image elsewhere and rolling my eyes at the final bullet point.

Jesus fucking christ.

It is the same damn thing I saw dude. I remember seeing it in an official capacity. Its just not my picture.

...

I was jesus fucking christ-ing because apparently you went from a Google image search to this:

This was their advertisement for the expansion prominently featured on their website from the announcement of the DLC until last week So yes. Yes they did in fact advertise it as having a raid. At this point somebody should be suing their asses for false advertising. This shit has gone on long enough.

This is quite the bit of hyperbole. Destiny's content, listed out, is pretty long - the story missions, strikes, crucible maps, raid, weaponry. It's much larger than any Halo title Bungie ever made by a very long shot. It does not have enough content to justify the end game grind, but that's another kettle of fish.

I concede that there have been games with less content than Destiny, though it still remains the most content starved game I have played for many years.

That said, I don't entirely agree with your post. At the risk of sounding like I'm moving the goalpost (not my intention, obviously), I don't think listing them out like that paints an accurate picture of Destiny's content. The story missions are barely distinguishable from each other. Similarly, the strikes are nearly as uninspired and largely consists of moving place to place, shooting the same enemies while Peter opens a door and finally fighting a bullet sponge boss that's a bigger version of a normal enemy.

Yes, one can list out how many missions and strikes there are, but that feels not unlike a game with a random dungeon generator saying there is a limitless variety of dungeons; technically true, but meaningless when it comes to the player's actual experience.

Alright I went back through my browser history and I was linked to this ad on bungie.net forums when I asked about the expansion last month leading me to believe it was in an official capacity. The link was hosted in a way that had bungie in the URL so I assumed t was the official ad. Apparently it's not its some sort of leaked splash page that I was unaware of prior to the link being sent to me last month. When the news that HoW would not have a raid came out I remembered seeing this ad on a bungie website and searched google for it because I remembered it specifically saying it would have a raid. I edited my initial post to reflect the original source.

It is the same damn thing I saw dude. I remember seeing it in an official capacity. Its just not my picture. We were definitely told and lead to believe that the expansion would have a raid.

This image was apparently leaked by noted data miner Megamanexe4, and Bungie denied the claims made in the splash image in a February 4 article on GameInformer.

1. Aside from giving it a name, Bungie has yet to reveal the House of Wolves. That means that anything you know about it can change. We have a team working on the experience in their own fancy room, and they have some exciting surprises up their sleeves.
2. We reserve the right to overwrite anything you're looking at right now. These placeholder items enable us to save room on your drive for actual future updates. You'll all download them before it's time to play.

I think it's pretty clear though that House of Wolves was originally intended to include a new raid. I suppose it's possible that the text of the image was just boilerplate data only meant as a placeholder though. The fact that they claim it contains "hundreds" of new weapons and armor leads might make me believe that it was just marketing hyperbole.....or perhaps it's the relic of a time when Bungie had chosen to have randomly generated items rather than the more static rewards they have now.

Destiny having a separate activity than a Raid is not the problem- especially if they are going to give us the Raid for free at a later date as they implied. The problem.. is that the replacement activity is three players. THREE players. They give us this end-game content that has us cultivate groups of friends in order to do these six player activities. We play together and look forward to further events together. Then they don't add an activity for the number of people that they had us build? It's just... it just does not make sense.

For months now my destiny friends have been planning how we were going to be the first group to finish the upcoming raid. Trying to get ourselves better at specifics roles on the team. Who has the best gun load outs for specific situations. Who had the best rolls for armor for different situation. we though we might have had a shot to be one of the first to complete, because we played like a team. but all that work and planning, for nothing. :(

Just stupid.

Open minded on this,if the arena has more to do than just wave after wave of bad guys then great. If on the other hand you simply need to get past wave ten to unlock gun 1 and then wave twenty for gun 2 it will make all our raid work pointless.

I'm still trying to get my last Crota item but am now thinking what's the point.

Dont get why people are upset. Lets first see what the new Arena thing is before judging it. I loved the Raids. But if this is something else but still requires alot of teamwork and skill. I really dont mind. I get the same experience.

What do you guys think:

New Raid later this year.... means between HoW and the Comet expansion or do they actually mean the Comet expansion?

Comet expansion. There is nothing in between, so we'll have to pay again for that.

See, my assumption is that there actually was a Raid planned, but it isn´t ready for primetime yet.

Something to do in July/August would be nice, and Bungie would probably like the money.

New DLC better have something phenomenal instead

Ha! We said that after release, then we waited for patches, then for the first content (never came but who do we fool? ) rise dlc was a major letdown... Still waiting of patches and now this... Oh I can't wait to see this content being even less than tdb

I have a hard time believing the raid wouldn't be ready after they already delayed the expansion. Unless they're making pretty big changes to what raids are supposed to be. I mean the current raids are very short and don't really seem like they matter much in the universe of Destiny, making them seem kinda disjointed from the rest of the game.

Compare that to the upcoming WoW patch. New raid will have 13 bosses, and there's an entire zone coming with it to help continue the story and buildup the new raid. Stuff like that should be what Destiny also strives to do imo.

Of course they were planning it they are data of it from back to October, that were acessed by people on their consoles. They just ran out of idea or money to playtest it and acti vision said : why bother, only x% complete the raids anyway, go work on something more cost effective !

And that's what they did. They created an arena and they code enemy spawn and called it a fancy name for a horde mode.

Im gonna stop you right there. This was their advertisement for the expansion prominently featured on their website from the announcement of the DLC. *see edit* Was linked to the image via bungie forums leading me to beleive it was in an official capacity. It wasn't.

That said they had some really misleading advertising about the game prior to release that still feels like it could be worthy of a lawsuit for false advertising.

They can't keep getting away with this!

That's what Im thinking... trying to be optimistic here.

This new Horde-mode like Arena could be very satisfying considering it could still provide a very rewarding experience with a PoE set of weapons / gear.

Here's some Wishlist items for me:

- light level balancing of all raid set gear and weapons (Crota's End, Vault of Glass & Prison of Elders gear have same light levels)

- Changing the background color block for raid gear so it has a new color and won't be mistaken for regular legendary gear.

- Make it hard to delete Legendary gear similar to how hard it is to delete Exotic gear.

- Tower gunsmith gains ability to allow players to level up, reset or "perk-roll" currently owned weapons (pay with weapon parts and motes of light for rare and higher weapons)

- Armor vendors can also level up, reset armor and provide a new perk roll

- Sell faction shaders

- Shipwright can sell legendary ships

- Players have the ability to choose between purchasing different DLC sets or Vanilla armor / weapons.

I'll reserve judgement until we know more. Honestly, I absolutely loved VoG but CE just didn't do it for me the same way. It didn't feel as fun and exiting. Beat it once on normal with my usual group and didn't return to it, not even when they released hard mode. My main and alt are still 31 because I never bothered grinding for full sets of 32 gear.

Sure, the new mode only being 3 players is disappointing because the groups of 6 for the raids were pretty awesome, but it's easier to get a group of 3 together. Our usual group was always finding it difficult to arrange a time for the 6 of us to be available at the same time. But I kinda wish they made the new mode 3 to 6 players, ramping up the difficulty the more players you have in the group.

Anyway, I played the game from day 1 til New Year's every day, and suddenly stopped playing when I got sick. When I got better, didn't feel like going back so I haven't played since then. We'll see if this gets me back on it.

What's really bugging me is that they are releasing this on the same day as The Witcher 3. It's a stupid decision that means I'll only get to this sometime after release.

This.
The game is such a trainwreck. They had soooo much goodwill from the community and decided to toss it all away in one go.

They really didn't care one bit about the community. We asked for bigger vault since release. They only gave us a vault extension today but it's not big enough for vanilla and even less for the extension. Now well have to wait another 6 months for bungie's to answer us and say 'no we won't extend the vault because only 5% of players have it full' translation 'only 2 programmers are working on supporting this game and one is an intern the rest is on destiny 2 so fuck you'

Damn dude you should play Hard mode of CE. Normal is a cakewalk. Hard is a nice challenge.

That was the mode I was praying for. Bungie. Thank you.

I cannot thank you enough.

WOW.

I don't know what to say.

What a day.

I think this is a lesson in bad PR/community management. They need to get their message under control and anticipate that their audience isn't comprised solely of mindless robots who 'Love Bungie.' The announcement about the lack of raid should have been accompanied with other information. Just announcing: "By the way, the thing you are looking forward to? Well, it's not coming. Or at least not now. Maybe later. Maybe for money." Well, that doesn't seem like a good PR move to me.

That said, maybe things are going to hell behind the scenes, or Acti-no-vision is putting pressure on them to serve content more piecemeal. I dunno, I'm no developer man.

For me, I'm gonna wait and see. I have the digital edition anyway and am in for the long haul.

I honestly can't complain. I can see why some are disappointed, because the raids are certainly very interesting and pretty fun to play.

At the same time, I don't feel like the game is content starved, but rather suffers from repetition. I honestly don't feel that a couple of extra strikes and another raid (that turns into a weekly 45 minute activity) would have added much to the game in the long run.

If the horde mode is done well, it will be an interesting 'new' mode (even if it involves killing waves of enemies like every mission) that will offer a different experience, compared to running the nightfall/weekly, raids and then being done for the week.

More importantly, I'm very happy with Trials of Osiris. Again, if this is done well it will finally bring some interesting content and gear to Crucible. I like the idea of Iron Banner but it ultimately boils down to an unbalanced Control Playlist that doesn't add a whole lot to the game.

Damn dude you should play Hard mode of CE. Normal is a cakewalk. Hard is a nice challenge.

My problem is that if I don't feel like it's fun it doesn't matter if it's challenging or not. There are a lot of design decisions in CE that I just don't like. The Abyss just feels annoying to me. The Deathsinger not having any reward is just stupid. These are just a couple of gripes I have with CE. There wasn't a single section of VoG I didn't like. Also, I fear my group kinda disbanded.

All you need to do is read their updates. That overly pretentious, elaborate, gushing language Deej uses gets on my nerves even if they do something good (which is rare). When they just fuck up (which is often) it becomes incredibly off putting and downright aggravating. How no-one at Bungie seems to have noticed that is baffling to me. It seems like such a basic communication / community management mistake.

I believe they eventually swapped drops around so that you do get something for the deathsinger. I do agree with you though, enjoyed VoG a lot, CE not so much. I'd take another CE over no raid however.

A well-made horde mode would work really well with Destiny's gunplay. Still, people being pissed of with the lack of a new raid is perfectly understandable.

I think they moved the possible exotic and cosmetic items from the free chest to Deathsinger. And I'm up for some Destiny if you want to give it a whirl :)

Everyone is pissed and I'm just sitting here grinning from ear to ear.
This is exactly what I wanted. I don't think I would be this excited for the DLC if it was a raid instead of the 3 person fireteam arena. This actually got me excited about coming back to Destiny!

They will probably throw the modifiers (or even new ones) into the mix for this mode. There's a lot of potential here. Hopefully Bungie thought this through.

To me this is what they wanted. Bringing people back. Those who wanted to raid and keep raiding with friends now have to shell out more money come Comet.

I don't think they are counting on how many core players they just pissed off though.

Heh, me too. I'm also grinning at some of the responses posted in this thread, and chuckling heartily.

Let me see if I can muster the will to get back to it... If I do, I'll definitely let you know, Due! Lately I've been losing track of time in Elite Dangerous and the Star Citizen Alpha. Hell, I still need to finish Dragon Age!

No Raid is disappointing, but I was thinking the same thing as you. A good Horde mode with Destiny's gunplay is maybe the thing that will get me back into it. Playing with you, Void, Mandrake, Icy and Hall would be great, which is why I wish the Horde mode was 3 to 6 players with increased difficulty for more players in a group.

You don't need 6 for either raid. 3 is enough for Crota and 5 enough for Atheon.

This just sounds like a lazy hordemode of things we play in every mission and strike already. "Defend this for 3 waves of enemies" might now be 10 waves instead.

Jesus h christ! no raid is just monumentally bad for this game! The Raids have been the only reason a lot of players still go on Destiny, the fun comradery of 6 player teams going up against unfairly glitchy tasks for the sweet chance RNGesus would give us something good!
To not include the Raid that was promoted to be coming with this expansion is down right insulting! and to include a 3 player horde mode and an "endgame" in its stead? do they not know what makes people play this game? have they not watched where players mainly are?

no amount of cool looking loot will make up for this! wish i could get a refund on my season pass now, what a fool i was to waste money on that

we'll only get 3 to 5 levels and this horde mode...hardly £20 of content, its barely £8 of content

What a cluster fuck, if they really were going to do this they should have announced this and dropped enough information (to damage control) as they could about the expansion

Didn't make this decision lightly? ha surely they knew the backlash would be this huge

Hahahaha, fuck off Bungie!

Glad I didn't buy the expansion pass (only bought The Dark Below). After hundreds of hours put into this and a platinum trophy, I'm officially done with Destiny.

What the fuck is Bungie doing. I don't care about the raid myself (as there is no matchmaking and I can't be bothered to gather people here on GAF), but I'm sure that was the part most players were looking forward too. It's simply pathetic.

How can they even justify themselves? They had every chance to 'fix' the pathetic amount of content the game had at launch with the DLC, but they even fucked that up.

And is there any timed PS exclusive content this time? As an Xbox One gamer I'm still waiting for the other stuff to release. Fuck you, Bungie. I know it's easy to blame Activision, but they're not the ones making the game.
