Destiny House of Wolves will Have no New Raid

I get bungie is trying something new and maybe saving content for the next big update but that doesn't excuse the fact that they advertised and led people to believe that there was going to be a new raid and then just say nope no new raid after everyone has bought the pass and has waited for months now for this DLC.

I can wait until another developer copies Destiny's groundwork and makes a game with 100x the content. It's bound to happen. Not including a new raid is crazy to me. It's the only thing keeping the hardcore Destiny players around.

They never promised a raid and never even hinted at any House of Wolves raid, or any of House of Wolves content in any official capacity.

The only way bungie can make this up is if the new update is free and has a new raid, but if they're gonna charge for the next update then yeah that sucks.

Youre correct. All of this DLC content was supposed to be released initially with the rest of the game. #activision #gotchasuckers

Given how buggy the current two raids are, I'm not sure this is such a bad thing. Beating Crota on hard is such a chore, not because it's that difficult once you have a good strategy, but because you're basically playing roulette with the bugs.

If done well, maybe a co-op arena will be a less frustrating way to get our rare gear.

Ah, hell. Who am I kidding? It'll be broken, too...

Is this how bad things have gotten? "It's a good thing they didn't include a huge buying point of the DLC, because the last two have been so buggy"?

Oh, Destiny.

I'm an avid Destiny fan and I still play on occasion, but this is among the most disappointing decisions that Bungie has made.

The 6-person raids are the best part of the game at present, and they aren't including one in their last piece of DLC in the original season pass? And instead they are rolling out a 3-person horde mode (supposedly)? So if I have a raid group that I normally play with, I can't play this new "Arena" mode with all of them at one time?

And then down the line when Comet comes out this fall, I'll have to pay for the next raid? Like I said, quite disappointing.

We shouldn't accommodate their ineptitude to make a non-buggy raid, which they were selling .

There's nothing to accommodate or not accommodate. House of Wolves releases in a month. It's finished content. We can shout and scream on the internet all we want- it's not going to make a raid appear.

For sure, those who feel smited by this decision should make their displeasure known if it makes them feel better, but let's not pretend that it's going to change anything.

We hadnt seen this coming already....

DeeJ took to the Bungie.net forums briefly after discussion broke out over the leaked content. Bungie is clearly happy for the game’s fans to discuss the new information, even citing the “pretty armor” as a topic of conversation, but DeeJ gave the forum users a warning that content would no doubt change between what has been revealed and the final product. “These are not necessarily the wolves you’re looking for,” said DeeJ.

I must say, I'm pretty surprised at the defense force coming out. I know it's GAF and all, so there's a defense force for anything, but no new raid is a pretty big slap in the face, especially considered how much praise and attention and PR spin Bungie lavished on the first two raids. Now, all of a sudden, they are moving away from raids, and lots are giving them a pass. "But they never said there was going to a raid, so that's okay." What.

For me its simple

Unfortunately there is nothing else similar to destiny available right now...and the shooting feels incredibly good

So i will probably keep playing

If they are the defense force, you're coming across like the slandering force.

Initially yesterday I was mad, now that anger has been replaced with curiosity. Can I gear up in the arena to do higher level raids of Vault and Crota?

There must be some panic over at bungie.

Players must have been dropping the servers like crazy, this game is unfortunately not what I had hoped it would be. Same shit every day and to much time before new DLC.

The raid was left out due to bungie needing to fix the replayability for the game I guess, cause at the moment, its only raids that are fun IMO.

You might be right, they never promised but those images do show they hinted at a new raid.

They did not hint at anything. That is one shot of a UI splash screen, but if you look at the full scope of what was data mined, it was filled with placeholder text and values. It was, literally, a placeholder Bungie never intended to be public.

A raid would have been very nice. But they did not promise or even hint at a raid publicly.

This. It's mind-boggling. The already troubling (IMO) "I don't care about the lack of content in The Dark Below because it has a new raid" argument can't even be used here.

as annoying as it is with no raid, i dont think we can get mad until we see what else bungie has planned for this expansion.

Now, why we arent getting mad at this absolutely stupid roll out schedule of information on a piece of DLC for a game that is severely lacking in things to do, that i really dont understand.

It seems like they're throwing the season pass DLC under the bus. Most people have already paid, so they're doing the bare minimum to fulfil their obligations.

The arena mode sounds like Bungie are digging deep to find their inner teenager and exploit a rich seam of pure laziness. I guess they haven't finished flogging that horde-mode horse.

The fact that the Crota raid still has lots of bugs shows how few fucks they are giving.

I reckon they're going to put any 'good' stuff in the "Comet" package that will get a proper stand-alone full-price release.
Bungie/Activision really need to get some decent reviews for Comet, or their 10-year project will start to look like an irredeemable failure.

Personally, I don't get it. Creating a load of content should be fucking easy considering the budget they have. The levels and other assets are there. Many of the zones are essentially unused and never-visited. You just need some spawn scripts and a paper-thin plot and you could create a fuck-ton of new missions/strikes.

Except that the outrage is stupid. We have no idea what Prison of Elders will entail. How about we wait and see what they are giving us before going off the deep end about what we perceive is a slight?

What if Prison of Elders has 10 times the content of a normal raid because it has customization options and replayability?

I for one know it gets boring running VOG and CE over and over for very little gear.

Honestly I just think it is funny how poorly Bungie has handled the announcement. You don't "take" some thing away and not immediately show the replacement. So they goofed there.

Honestly Destiny is shaping up as a great test case for how to Not market your game and work with your community.

There's no free passes or defense forcing, but common sense dictates we should wait to see what is happening before we start gnashing our teeth and howling and screaming.

But this is the internet so what Evs

Dude I wish I could broadcast this voice of reason across the web. People overreact because it is what we have been conditioned to do.

I had several talks last night with my regular team mates and their initial response was anger until I said the same thing you just posted.

People can be angry once we know what it is we are actually getting, but we can point to Bungies mishandling of information and just scratch our heads.

At this point Nintendo does a better job of getting a message out.

No, we can talk about it here and now. There is no need to wait. Nobody is speaking in certain terms about the expansion. Bungie has shown a gross trend with Destiny and have no reason to assume it is changing after this announcement.

That was datamined. If you recall datamined info for TDB missions was wrong as well. Things change. Placeholder data is real.

If anyone can prove Bungie PUBLICLY promised a HoW raid I will eat crow and change my avatar or something.

The closest thing was some slideshow slide from a PRIVATE presentation that was leaked that I believe bungie or deej or urk addressed was innacurate because it was old.

What does one have to do with the other? They are giving us a new mode, so it's all of a sudden okay to move away from other game modes? I don't understand this type of thinking. There's nothing to wait for. I hope PoE is fantastic and great and amazing. That doesn't mean it's still okay to not give us a new raid.

Haven't only like 20% of the player population actually completed a raid? Something pretty low I believe.
There are millions of people that bought Destiny that don't play the game anymore and barely got anywhere on it. They are going to water down percentages. Only a fraction of the original Destiny user base is still playing. Those are a much higher percentage of the people that do the raids.

Wow, I would have considered it with a Raid and a decent amount of content but no raid gives me zero interest.

Well it's time to uninstall Destiny.

This. It's mind-boggling. The already troubling (IMO) "I don't care about the lack of content in The Dark Below because it has a new raid" argument can't even be used here.

Even without a raid, this expansion is looking larger than TDB. And some people - me! - would actually prefer a good survival mode/ arena to a new raid.

It was Bungie that defined raids as being a key component of Destiny's endgame, and so it's entirely understandable that people expected a raid with this expansion, and are disappointed. But let's not pretend that opposing views are somehow inexplicable or some kind of defense force (referencing another comment).

Yes? Especially if you like that kind of mode.

There was a gigantic outcry that awesome gear took 6 ppl to get and I cant do it on my strike team. they seem to have put a new way to do that together and now we are up in arms that no new raid.

I want a new raid, I love the raids, but some kind of epic strike/wave mode/arena w/e could be great too. what causes a defense force sometimes is confusing FUD rage. I aint mad yet anyway.

A new raid doesn't solve the problem for someone who enjoys Destiny and playing with friends, but isn't able to get 5 other people on at will to try raiding. I think they couldn't find a way to add matchmaking to raids, and instead of compromising raids to add matchmaking, they are making this mode, which I look forward to.

Of course... so wouldn't the idea be to make a game mode that would incentivize those players to come back or attempt higher level content? Making a new raid obviously isn't going to motivate those players to play it if they haven't played the first 2.

I think the idea here was to find something that more people could access a lot quicker, that required less planning/fireteam recruiting.. and could just jump in and play. As you said, "millions of people that bought Destiny" don't play anymore and never even approached a raid. Why not try to make something that bring those people back and give something the existing players can enjoy as well vs just making a new raid that will keep the remaining few people happy and the "millions of others" far away from the game?

I think the biggest blunder in all this is the PR aspect.

Whoever is in charge of announcments/pr at Bungie is either an idiot or one of those that subscribes to the belief that bad pr is still good pr because its pr.

Instead of saying "No raid... but we promise there's this other cool thing we will show... in 4 fucking weeks."

They should have started with.... "So there's no raid, don't worry more raids are in the works for later... but we also have this really cool 3 person coop mode and here is some gameplay and here is more info about it"

That might have soothed things over if this new mode really is cool. Instead we got people sharding Praxic fires out of anger.

This is what I've been saying. It reminds me of how they handled the exotic shard thing with TDB where they were holding back very important info that they should have let the community know about just because the reveal was tied to an outlet revealing it a few days later. You just can't do shit like that with a game like this. It's not Halo. It is an MMO-lite or at the very least, it is closer to that than anything else they've ever done. Clue your community in sooner rather than dick teasing them until later or else you will eventually lose their goodwill and their business.

There isn't anything to accept or not accept. They already have our money. We already have two raids. Both are buggy as hell. There's no reason to expect a new one to be any different.

I think a lot of posters are looking to label anything they see here as either a "hater" post, or a "defense force" post. I'd like to think I'm neither. I'm just trying to call it like I see it.

Bottom line is: we got suckered. We handed money over, most of us up-front, for a game and two expansions. The game, while it had its strong points, over-promised and under-delivered. The first expansion did as well. Looks like the second expansion will be more of the same.

Let's not let the same thing happen with Comet. I'm not forking any more money over up-front based on good faith alone.

This arena is sounding a little like Nephalem Rifts from Diablo 3, which is awesome.

See something like that would be really really great and id take that over a raid.

But we have no idea because of how terrible bungie is at messaging.

4 week roll out of information? You arent declassifying 20 years of government documents bungie, get over yourselves.

For everyone complaining...remember that at least on playstation on 20% of players have finished a raid

There is a reason for this

Edit: This honestly makes me wish that Halo 5 would have content similar to Destiny...some sort of raid mode

Yes? Especially if you like that kind of mode.

Why can't we have both? Should have been a new raid, AND a survival mode added to existing play spaces.

The enemies moving against each other in Skywatch, that first area on Mars, and under The Archive would have been great. Extended Confluxs and/or Oracles...How about The Abyss with lights that recharge and you have to mange them along with the enemy waves?

I feel that new modes should extend the content and keep the community active, and not be considered new content.

I don't understand the backlash. 20 % of the millions of people who have destiny have not completed a raid. That means the majority of people are doing other activities. Not everyone has 5 friends they can get to do a raid yet alone finish it.

This 3 player mode is a nice alternative to those who perhaps can't get raid gear due to not having anyone to raid with. It is also a nice change up, from the other aspects of the game.

Frankly I am surprised this wasn't a mode to begin with.

Day 1 for me

I don't mind because raiding is the thing I've done the least with the game. I know I may be in the minority here on NeoGAF however.

I'm still interested to see what House of Wolves is going to have. I have a couple friends who are just starting to get into it. The Arena looks interesting and if that is the new way to gain top tier loot then it could be a good thing because it switches things up a bit.

Bungie said the decision wasn't easy so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
