So just making sure, the novels are non canon right? JJ and co be starting from scratch?

This is what's canon:

Not only that, but:

White sleeves/Black sleeves

SOMETHING DOESN'T ADD UP HERE![/QUOTE]

Clothes can be changed.

BTW, remember that Luke's hand got damaged in Return of the Jedi, so perhaps he just stripped of the synth-skin and left the hand looking metallic?

You could definitely be right- but this is Star Wars we're talking about. Adjusted for inflation, 2 of the 3 OG trilogy films rank higher than Avatar already. It's all a question of how fast the hype train can get going in the next 8 months, and how much they can inflate ticket prices with 3D, IMAX, etc.

It's going to be fun to see how it plays out!
Adjusting for inflation is the dumbest thing that ever comes into these conversations because you adjust for one factor and ignore all others like the insane difference between the market and competition between the periods of time.

So (major spoilers)
those leaks a while back are true right? One of them specifically said that we would get a burned up Vader mask.

It's definitely Anakin/Vader/Luke's saber. Not sure how it came back after it flew off though.

You're right. I'm pretty sure you see his hand, presumably with the lightsaber falling toward Bespin, a gas giant. It must have been found somewhere on Cloud City.

People thought a Marvel movie would outgross Star Wars? Lol.

I mean, unless we end up with another prequel disaster...this is motherfucking STAR WARS

These aren't just movies, they're global events.

Even a prequel disaster would have outsold Utron.

In-universe, those sabers are the one and same. The prop has changed, yes, but the saber's supposed be the same thing.

Yep.

Anakin's first saber gets chopped up at the droid factory on Geonosis (AOTC)

But Anakin's ROTS saber = Luke's ANH saber = Luke's ESB saber

Still going to need some kind of explanation for how it got recovered from the Cloud City ventilation ducts though.

lol.

Beating out Avengers is one thing. That's within arms reach for a franchise as big as Star Wars. Just remember though, that in order to get on even footing with Avatar, Ep7 would have to gross 1.3billion MORE than The Avengers.

I don't see it happening. The cross-section of audiences isn't there for Star Wars. Hopefully with the new one they'll capture a larger female audience. I can remember grandmas, mothers and girls of all ages loving Avatar, including my girlfriend. My girlfriend won't even come with me to see Ep7.

For what it's worth, I think Ep 7 has a better shot of getting into the Titanic/Avatar tier than Avengers 2 does. People are massively sleeping on just how big Star Wars is.

Good thing they wiped out the EU for this. Also I jist rewatched the first teaser and even though it's short that millennium falcon shot with the theme blasting gets me every time.

The king is back.

Or it could be a replica "I made it just like the one I was given".

But it would be so cool if they did recover it, because handing it down from generation to generation is such an awesome symbolic gesture allegorical to the movies in society itself.

We'll see.

Do keep in mind that Star Wars is a household name that needs no further introduction; it simply needs a movie worthy of the franchise name. They averaged over $400 million (box office) off those horrible prequels alone. If they can double that take, they're in Avatar (box office) range. That movie did $760 mill in the theaters. And we all know what kind of legs Star Wars shit has after the box office: the franchise is still a household name 30+ years after its last quality film, and books, cartoons and videogames are perpetually being spawned.

There are fewer franchises as strong as Star Wars. With a quality film (and it has to be objectively good), it will find itself in the discussion. If it's a dud, the worst it can do is probably about $500 million...and that's on the strength of the brand alone. People young and old will be going to see this movie, damn near in equal number. My 60+ year old dad is excited to see this shit.

You're suddenly making this about domestic box office and not worldwide?

It's not meant to be taken as gospel. Just provides a different light to shine on things. The original trilogy pushed a shitload of tickets, but those tickets were a lot cheaper than today's tickets.

That line from Luke brings up so many questions. I mean it's clearly just his RotJ line re-arranged a little and edited, but it obviously also means something for the new movie.

The thing about Star Wars is that it doesn't need a movie to jump start other parts of the franchise. You just release it and the toys and stuff get devoured even if the last movie was 10+ years ago. I don't think other franchises approach that kind of power.

Introducing his embarrassing second cousin, Garth Skywalker.

Edit: Bad pun at the top of the page. The force is strong in me.
