There is zero confirmation on what PC Gamer spewed out about number of maps.
 
Some of these responses, eesh. Apparently staying true to the series roots isn't good enough.

Why is it that game companies think they can charge full price for multi-player game? Do people not think it's a rip off when most AAA games come with mutli-player as a bolt on?

I just don't get it and won't be buying this.
 
i knew i was right to be worried lol, but for real lets see how this plays out, gameplay could be very good.

maybe that trailer could revitalize some hope.

alright, i'm in 1000% - i thought this was gonna be Battlefield: SW but it looks to be a legit ass Battlefront

Who said that this is what they wanted to do? I'm sure they'd love to do space battles and build on the FR stuff that they're likely aware of.

But in two years to build a game from the ground up, including all the pre-production, and have to make a hard-set date...there's only so much that can be done.

Edit: Good to see some of the gifs I brought to the other thread making their way here :P

sort of. Even a galactic conquest mode would be nice as that's basically instant action. Then again since there's likely no local I don't see it as a big deal as the biggest reason why the story/galactic conquest was fun imo was because of co-op.

There's split-screen? It's being bought

Barebones? They've made it plenty clear that a lot of work has gone into authenticity. All the faithfully recreated models and locations are enough to satisfy any Star Wars fan.

Also let's not judge a game on a single game mode reveal, considering DICE refused to comment on lot's of questions.
 
Okay, I'm gonna try to take a positive look at these things, even if some are very disappointing to me:

  • Only 40 player max per map? DICE says this was the appropriate number, based on their own testing/balancing. Map design is more important than player count. If maps are properly designed for 40 players, there's no reason the action wouldn't match the intensity of 64 player maps/games. That's always a big IF, though.
  • Only 4 planets in the game? Hoth (snow), Tatooine (desert), Endor (forest), and Sullust (volcanic--see the promo art). This does not mean there are only 4 maps in the game.
  • No SP campaign? There is not a specific campaign, but there are SP/co-op missions that are different from the multiplayer maps. From what I understand, this is just like Battlefront 2

  • No controllable walkers? It sounds like Walker Assault (which is the only mode show in the demo so far) has AT-ATs that are on set paths, with the guns controlled by players. The AT-AT moves towards the rebel base on a fixed path, and the rebels have to take it out before it reaches the objective. It is still possible that AT-STs are fully player controllable.
  • No ADS? Yeah, that's right. You'll be hip-firing with the finest from the Empire!
  • No class system? It sounds like there are no classes, just a wide selection of customization.
  • No squad system? Squads are being eschewed in favor of "Partners". Think the Buddy system from Medal of Honor: you have a buddy that you can always spawn on, and you share unlocks with her/him.
  • No space battles? Yeah, that sucks. Plus side? If DICE didn't think they could do it, trust me--it's better that they left it out.

Pretty much my stance. I'm not angry about it or anything, but would've bought it had there been something to make it worthwhile for the few remaining solo players like myself out there.

Because it's a MP-focused franchise. And there's a difference between a SP game with a tacked-on MP, and a MP-focused game.

If this game had a SP, the vast, vast majority of my time would still be spent with the MP component. SP is largely unnecessary with this type of game.

Not sure, maybe that people have some differing opinions and all that jazz?

I mean for example, I'm bummed it doesn't have ADS, but I'm fine with it at the same time and understand the reasoning behind it.

If no campaign means more development focus on the MP and content, which is what these games are all about anyways, that's fantastic. Why waste the time/money on it?

Hope the maps are appropriately sized for 20v20.

So what? Climate is not what's important, as I said. Map design is what's important. Siege of Shanghai and Lancang Dam don't play similarly at all. Or Locker and Shanghai (both urban environments). Caspian Border and Golmund Railway.

This all only matters if we are indeed getting multiple maps per planet, of course.
 
I don't know why some people bother with gaming.

They must sit in their chairs vexing over every little feature that is not included, and many will probably buy it anyway.

I like what I've seen so far. It feels like Battlefront should be, big battles in 3rd person in the world of Star Wars.

If Dice/EA deliver a polished Battlefront experience, with great game mechanics, maps, and game modes... Then I am all in.

I'd much rather quality over being too ambitious and under delivering.

Time will tell, but I am certainly interested.
 
Is this the first time in history PlayStation has had a Star Wars marketing-exclusive?

Seems like it's been on Xbox for the last ten years and before that 'marketing-exclusive' wasn't even a term.

Different people wanted this game to be different things. Some people wanted this to have a Campaign, like republic commando or Jedi Knight II. Others wanted a multiplayer focused game, like Battlefront or battlefield. Most of us probably wanted both of these things.

This time around EA/DICE only had 2 years to make this game and have a strict launch window before the movie is out. It looks like they decided to just focus on a refined, although limited in some respects, multiplayer experience instead of having too much on their plates and delivering a half finished product like Battlefield 4 at launch again.
 
I see GAF is being GAF. We've already gone from Battlefront being the best thing ever, to the worst thing ever and it's been what... a couple of hours since information started trickling out? Battlefront has never had a traditional campaign. It was the multiplayer battles with bots and some cutscenes.

Sure, no space battles sucks but this isn't Battlefront 3. DICE isn't building off Pandemic's work from a decade ago. They're starting over. If there are only four maps, then that's rather disappointing... But I imagine the maps should be tweaked for the different game types so that should at least provide some variety.

Except it, y'know, sort of didn't work. Free Radical cut the player count back drastically and still couldn't get it to work. The concept behind their BFIII was incredible, but they simply were not able to pull it off.
