Guillermo del Toro confirms he will not be collaborating with Kojima on Silent Hills

this is incredible... the free marketing that they got for the game. It literally went viral... and then you just kill it. that is one of the worst business moves i've ever seen. I still think we should wait for an official word from Konami.

Even if it isn't dead without Kojima and Del Toro it might as well be, what a goddamn mess

Exactly.

Silent Hill games were shit for a long time now. The only good SH games are 1,2 and 3 after those the series went downhill.

Kojima and Del Toro would have brought this series back, i'm sure but since the collaboration is not happening now we'll probably just get another meh Silent Hill game nobody gives a fuck about.

At the rate it's going, Konami will be the next company to exit the business. Metal Gear without Kojima (I mean I don't even think Kojima is great, but Metal Gear IS Kojima), ruining all the amazing buzz it got from PT and eliminating Silent Hills, Castlevania was officially destroyed thanks to Mercury and a slew of shit games otherwise.

I dunno what their value even is anymore.

I hope it gets made someday, albeit be it under a different name and a different engine. I hope a smart publisher (PLEASE Sony!) helps them out - This game has way too much potential for them to just throw it all away... That'd be tragic. But for some reason, I'm moderately confident that we'll shit our pants eventually.

Sucks but would it really be that hard for Kojima and Del Toro to make a different horror game? I'm sure they wouldn't have that hard of a time getting a publisher.

Name it Noisy Moutain and poach members of Team Silent out from under Konami.

I think there is a very real chance the Phantom Pain is the last Konami game I ever buy. MGS was the last series they have I truly cared about anymore. Silent Hills had a shot, but now that is gone.

Some people are saying they will refuse to buy MGSV as a sort of angry protest to their actions. I say buy it. Buy it to celebrate the swan song of a company that created some great memories for us for basically 30 years now. The way they are going, there soon may not be a Konami to be angry at any more.

Eh in a franchise that has been around for decades that has seen bad games before I don't think it's really on-point to say that Castlevania is dead now because of Mercury. Their first one sold really well but they dropped the ball bad on the second one. If Castlevania is dead, it's because of Konami failing to do anything with it.

some of ya'll should've known this when they gutted/ruined classic Hudson Soft, but at least we can all hold hands & agree that Konami is shit~

...seriously, no silver lining here. PT was the most interesting thing about our current gen for quite a stretch there, still one of my favorite experiences

I'm not sure that's possible...

Sony should get them onboard and use the order's engine . Rad's tech with Kohima direction would lead to a godlike horror game

Del Toro and Kojima are expensive talents, in addition to their ideas being expensive to produce.

So hard in that sense, yeah...

The first game was a miserable Castlevania game as well, and it sold decently but no where near great. And the second was an abomination unto mankind, so I don't think much needs to be said there. It is very much Konami's fault for allowing Mercury to go the route they did.

Konami only has a few major franchises they even toy around with anymore. Somehow they ruined their relationship with Kojima, effectively neutering the MGS series going forward. They've now ruined Silent Hills, the first time they managed to effectively build real buzz around a new game in the series in a decade and they had everyone talking and they squandered that. And Castlevania is now sinders once and for all, because they don't understand how to exercise proper control and guide developers into making a game that is actually what the series is all about. Not this God of War-wannabe shit hole game with severe input lag and crap-tier framerates on consoles and laughable enemy A.I.

Konami pretty much only has Pro Evolution Soccer they do anything with anymore, and they're so unbelievably incompetent in every other conceivable way that any franchise they might revive must by definition be met with skepticism of the highest order. They're officially a junkbin company with little value in existence.

Although Bayern Munich is now official German soccer champion and a fellow colleague finally send me her photo this is a very sad day. Sooo, what's next for Kojima?!

It's sad, but it's not the end of the world. Not like Del Toro and Kojima are the only people who can make a good psycho-horror game.

And there's no way in hell they're gonna, like.. just CANCEL this whole Silent Hills thing.

P.T was a big success as it was, a short playable teaser (well, it took me like 8 hours to finish it, so, not that short XD), incredibly criptic, enigmatic and eerie experience. Hype was all around and got many many people interested. Some even bought a PS4 just to play it.

So, really, I don't see it dying that easy.

You realize P.T. is being removed from PSN on April 29th?

After all the years of disappointment, Silent Hills looked like a dream come true for Silent Hill fans. P.T was one of the most interesting and exciting game reveals ever...and now this...

Also what a shame about the Fox Engine, looks like such a promising engine...all the work...for nothing.

Sad news if true. Things were so exciting in 2014 – the announce of sequel to Twin Peaks, P.T. teaser and the following news about Silent Hills. But now, it's seems all gone :(

I see more positive than negative about the game and it's the best selling Castlevania game iirc. You're obviously welcome to not like it, but, I feel like your personal feelings toward it are overriding the reality of it. http://www.destructoid.com/lords-of-shadow-is-the-most-successful-castlevania-ever-253848.phtml

The second one both sold and reviewed like shit though.

where are people getting this? Fox engine is still alive and well.

I don't know if I'm missing something, but where exactly does it say that the game is cancelled? Del Torro leaving doesn't mean that Silent Hills is dead.

I think that people are thinking that it might as well not come out if Kojima and Del Toro are out

Konami has tried a lot of times to bring back Silent Hill. All pretty much failed. I don't trust the project without Kojima at all.
