Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

Demo is only for 3 hours?

So basically we can expect everyone to get on at once, the servers to get destroyed, and no one will be able to actually play.
That's the point, yeah. Kill the servers now so they may live on launch. We only get this free test so Nintendo can get thousands of free testers to try and kill their matchmaking servers. Standard practice for stress test betas.

I'm still reeling at the reveal of the Kraken

That was perfect timing. For real.

The game seems super super awesome (but we already knew this), i'm just very skeptical about the idea of introducing the most interesting online options (team matches with friends) later on, in August.
I mean, WTF?
What's the sense launching a game without those options?

The game looks awesome, but that narration was kinda awful.

Wish they had done something that captured the funky attitude of Splatoon.

I wish the demo featured at least one single-player mission, so it's not dead weight after those 3 hours of stress test =(

Hmm am I the only one who interpreted the demo thing like this? "You can download the demo soon and mess with it offline but online it's only there around the mentioned times"

Like an actual stress test should be, unlike how recent multiplayer games have had their stress tests at launch, and some are still having their stress tests *cough* MCC *cough*

much like smash bros. for wii u they probably didn't want to delay the game so they're patching in some stuff post-launch to get it out on time

I'm trying to get some confirmation about this on twitter because we're many who though the same.

A lot of information we already knew, but quite a few things we hadn't heard about yet. So, overall, not a bad Direct. Pretty hyped about the Testfire, though. I'm alright with it only being active at certain times of the day, because I really just want to play the game for myself. I also really like that they have plans for post launch content that includes new modes, gear and maps.

I saw on the Testfire menu that there was an option to pre-purchase the game, which in Nintendo terms means pre-load, so I'll probably do that, too.

Priorities. Nintendo's studios are terribly backwards in online functionality. They think random matchmaking with no voice chat is good enough for online and even falls under their "design intent". As in, they factor it into how the game is designed. It's terrible.

i know but they showed that you can join a friend. what's stopping you from doing that 7 times and have a match with all friends.

If the room fills up immediately at best you could only get one friend in. It really hinges on how fast the room fills up.

I woke up 30 minutes lates.....*kicks alarm clock off the table*

Basically they're saying "please don't buy our game until August!"

So if you don't care about the single player, you'll probably be better off waiting it out.

Most interesting online options for you.

Those are not additional content, those are just options.
Seriously, this idea is even more stupid than the lack of voice chat (and that is shameful as far as i'm concerned).

I love the direction this is taking, especially for Nintendo. Events! New modes! all the Stuff! I really need to get a gaming group started in Cincinnati. :\

I hope Nintendo takes this approach with Star Fox... though that's doubtful.

What the what now? That sucks for the US folks. =/

This Direct got me pretty interested in the game. I thought it looked interesting before but, while watching the Direct, it suddenly gave me a PvZ: GW vibe, a game which I really enjoyed. I think I'll have to pick this up a lot sooner than I thought I would.
