Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

Yeah, I wish the demo could at least include a 1v1 against a bot just to let people get their feet wet

Every time they've shown the game, the demo has had a little single player stage that tells you the controls and lets you pop balloons to get used to them.

They said you could create custom matches though

Not until August, and it sounds like this requires a full 8 people. But I guess we don't have all the details yet.

The one thing I'm still not super clear on is where or not we can use the Wii U Pro controller as the main controller or not. It seems like a safe assumption, but I've yet to see it explicitly said.
I wouldn't be so sure. The gamepad map functionality along with the gyro seem pretty important. I wouldn't be surprised if they force gamepad use for single player.

GamePad is the main controller. I'm not entirely sure if the Pro is usable outside of the Battle Dojo.

First test is at 4am to 5am on Saturday? madness.

Just an hour window is quite.. strict. I forsee not being able to connect for that whole time.

What a great direct. I have been hyped for Splatoon since its reveal but this Direct definitely settled some of my fears:

Single player will have bosses and mother ****ing LORE! I was a bit worried single player would be strictly missions in a very strict format, and while they are specifically that, there is something else there to make you want to play it. Bosses for payoff, leveling up so you feel like you are progressing and it gives incentive to play better to get more eggs.

Multiplayer looks like it will get frequent support, which is surprising to me. While I have loved Mario Karts DLC and Smash updates, I feel that take far to long to come out. We are still waiting for tournaments and Miiverse stage in Smash! I am very disappointed Ranked and Custom matches with friends isn't supported at launch. Its coming though so I guess you can't complain to much. Loved that the content seems to be completely free, and can't wait to play the newer game modes as they come. I may have an issue with only 2 maps every 4 hours, though.

The plaza is pretty cool and I am glad you can change the abilities of your items. Dodged a bullet there.

I guess i'll pre-order at Gamestop. Don't want to risk missing out on Smash Bros. content. Still think Inkling will be an actual character for Smash. Got my amiibo 3-pack ordered already and am ready.

Splatoon |OT| RELEASE THE KRAKEN

Perfect

On the download page, it says Gamepad, Pro Controller, and Classic controller can be used...BUT, under that is explains that Pro Controller, and Classic controller can only be used for Dojo mode (Local 2 player Mutliplayer)

All I know is I couldn't press anything in the demo with the pro controller. Needed to bust out the gamepad lol.

Huh. Now that you mention it, they only mentioning joining friends for unranked. That sucks. If you're in the same "range" I don't see why they wouldn't let you join friends. I can see them wanting to bar a C player from joining an A match, but if it's close, why not allow it? :(

they could easily make these modes unranked as well. Also just available for those who reached lvl 10. I won't mind that.
I don't see the point making these ranked only. Most games have the same modes unranked/ranked

This is the first time I seriously debated on selling a console just to buy another.
-_- would be my PS4 buuuut there's games I still want to play (No Man's Sky being one)

The only thing would be my Vita that I sometimes play here and there.

I'm curious though how much longer Wii U has until their next system.

Its been argued forever how long the Wii U would have ever since it arrived with a whimper.

imo I think it'll last until the end of 2016, early 2017.

Probably two years

Splatoon is on WiiU. That's the only thing that matters =D

Probably till late 2017.

But if you want to be more sure about that, wait till E3.

I’m so conflicted, it’s driving me crazy. This look so awesome, with so much content. I love the design, I love the music, I love that you can customize your gear and stats, it looks gorgeous. I’d buy it digital and it would sit so nicely next to MK8 and Smash as quick, re-playable anytime games…

…yet, playing with my friends is only random teams? I’m forced to use the stupid Gamepad to play this? Uhg! Big deal breakers for me. I’m glad they are doing a Demo. I need to try this out to see if it’s fun enough to warrant using that awful Gamepad and just playing with randoms since my friends won’t buy this if we can’t play together. If it plays as amazing as it looks then it might be worth compromising.

Please Nintendo, please patch in Pro Controller support. Please patch in the ability to let us choose teams.

I can't watch the Direct live but I'm keeping up with the new info and omg all sounds awesome!! A demo happened as well and even Splatoon is trending topic wordwide on twitter! This game is gun' be good. So goooood.

I assume you don't have a PC 'good enough' to run No Man's Sky? I'd say the Wii U offers much more value than the PS4 at the moment. If I had a PS4 I'd sell it to buy a Wii U.

This...greatly disappoints me. I don't hate the Gamepad or anything, but I would've preferred the Pro for this, easily.

So what do you thing about the post-launch updates:

a) Some parts of the game aren't finished, but Nintendo needs a big title in May?
b) Nintendo is afraid of the kids again and that they getting steamrolled online?
c) It's a strategy to keep people in the game by constantly having updates and things to look foreword to? This also creates a bigger connection between players and the game, which allows them to sell DLC more successful later.

Aw no offline for the demo is disappointing. It's gotta suck being teased by that Splatoon icon on your Wii U but not be able to play it lol

I have the exact same system that gets compared to a PS4
I3 4130+ 8GB ram+ 750ti
It could run it but not exclusives like Tomorrow Children, and such.

They needed to push a game out for the summer is what I think.

Oh so you can download today but not play yet?
Pretty much Pad.

I think it's a healthy mix of all three

C.

I think that the inclusion of Splatfests suggests that they want to support this game post release and are spreading it out over the year to keep people interested.

I'm mad. That really makes me mad. For a multiplayer based game on a console that's supposed to be about local multiplayer, it sure is limiting.

So why couldn't they have at least done dojo mode with 2 v. 2? I'm never going to be able to play this with my friends because none of them have a Wii U.

I doubt the single player for this game will be long even with challenge maps. I say under 10 hours.

For the demo? Nope.

For the demo, I doubt there will be any. Of course the full game will have a story mode & local 2-player.

It's for tomorrow.

Not for the demo but for the final game YES.

Oh yes, for the Demo! Forgot to specify. I've been following Splatoon since its announcement, so I'm informed (and excited) about the offline content (mainly the campaign).
