Witcher 3 Pre-load live on GOG Galaxy

According to posts on W3 forums pre-load is live on GOG Galaxy. GOG links were live for couple minutes but they were taken down.

Size is 26GB for GOG Galaxy and 22,5GB for GOG links. We should expect Steam pre-load to go live today too.

I was expecting the game to be 50 GB+

Same, but then again, I don't think it has much in the way of prerendered cutscenes, so that's going to knock a huge chunk off the install size.

Nothing will beat TES:O for a while. No game that looks that bad deserves that much of a HDD.

Confirming pre-load being live. Speed is not too great, my max is 25-30 MB/s

Download speed doesn't seem very stable, constantly fluctuating between 0 and 1.5 MB/s down. Often staying at 0 MB/s quite a while.

TESO is same size as GTAV is so I think it's shared first place :D

Download is not stable probably because GOG is still tweaking stuff. They pulled down GOG Download links after few minutes so something is happening behind scene.

Time to finally redeem that code with my 960. Now to find the serial number.

EDIT: God damn it's a coupon code. Where did i put that box...

As soon as I clicked install my HDD where Galaxy Client resides began making a clicking noise... don't do this to me now. I usually download/store files on my last mechanical HDD and transfer them over to one of my SSDs I use for games when I play them.

Any ways it's pre-loading now and going full line speed for me.

For a game with supposedly 35GB install you need to admit that 26GB download is rather nice compression.

As reference Witcher 2 is 23GB when installed. Not even doubling the game size, but still increasing world size etc. tenfold.

Am I missing something or is there no option to pause a download in Galaxy? Never used it before, but it did say it was still in Beta. I suppose I'll just have to download it all in one go and hope for the best.

Yep there is no pause that I can see. I tried clicking "abort" to see if it'll resume but nope, I just wasted 1 GB, lol.

Guess I'm not using Galaxy Client, will just use GOG Downloader for now.

How many are there? If you can muster up the strength to look!

I just looked, tried my best not to look at names and counted about 52. So +- 52 might be off 1 or 2 by avoiding best to read names so wasn't too accurate in counting.

Open world games are usually smaller in size because of repeating tile sets. I think Skyrim was around 5 gigs when it launched.

GOG Galaxy is maxing out my connection of 5Mbps... which I'm sad that there is no way to limit the download speed with it.

Hoping my housemates will not kill me for hogging all the bandwidth.

That is big ?? for me too, how you release client like this today and not have bandwidth throttle build into it? GOG Galaxy doesn't have it and Origin doesn't have it. I want cap how much these clients use my bandwidth!

oh wow, I never heard of GOG galaxy before, I am so glad it exists, I was worried I had to download everything via the website

Download NetBalancer Free. You can limit download/upload speed of individual applications to whatever you want.

Woo thanks a lot! It works wonderfully and I already limit GOG Galaxy to 350KBps.

Agree that Origin also lack the bandwidth throttle limit built into the client. Still it took Steam quite sometime to implement the download cap if I'm not mistaken.

For now Net Balancer Free works great in capping GOG Galaxy download rate.

Edit: I also noticed through Net Balancer that GOG Galaxy is uploading average 12-13KBps consistently. I wonder what CDProjekt wants from my computer.

Probably peer to peer sharing. Blizzard does that with World of Warcraft.

When downloading via TCP/IP your PC sends acknowledgements that it receives the packets destined for it, hence your upload usage from GOG Galaxy. Nothing nefarious going on :)

Not impressed with it, don't like the UI at all and my download speed is all over the place (was sat at 0.2 for ages) - understandable to an extent as its a new/popular game (still, not a great 1st impression).

Also a minor complaint, when you have minimize, maximize and the X buttons in the corner - make the god dammed X button close the app not minimize it - use the minimize button for that (i hate this on certain apps).

UI in Galaxy is little awkward to use, but I expect it to improve as beta moves along. For download speed I'm surprised it keeps fluctuating so much, I downloaded Witcher 2 with Galaxy last week and it gave me full speed all the time.

Galaxy download speeds are good here, 9-10 MB/s.

I wonder how they do preloads for DRM-free games. Entire content encrypted like steam or just missing a critical piece to play?

Its likely because so many are pre-loading, i don't think many people would be downloading TW2 that much now.

No problems in GOG Galaxy speeds here for the preload, it's maxing out my connection (13MB/s).

Which is great, considering for close to a year all downloads to GOG for me were locked at 50KB/s, no matter what I used to download.

GOG Achievements are listing some spoilers. Don't look at them if you want to go into the game without knowledge.
